Unless otherwise noted, the information for Bernard's walkthrough Days 1 through 45 is taken from 2.07 The Other 48 Days.

Day 1 (September 22, 2004)

A very frightened man (Bernard) is yelling for help. He is strapped into an airline seat balanced precariously in the upper limbs of a tall tree.

Ana Lucia and a man (Goodwin) arrive to help him down. Ana Lucia tells Bernard to unfasten the seat belt and grab the branch next to him. Bernard glances toward the branch, his eyes momentarily resting on the bloody corpse of a young man strapped into the adjoining seat. Hysterically, Bernard yells "Is he dead? I think he's dead!"

Ana Lucia tells Bernard to focus and following her instructions, he unbuckles the seat belt. Immobilized with fear, Bernard stares at the nearby branch and tells Ana he doesn't think he can grab onto it. Ana tells him, he has to go for the branch, both seats are going to fall. Bernard slowly extends one shaking hand and grabs the branch, then as he takes hold with his other hand as well, the seats break loose and plummet to the ground. Bernard hugs the branch as his rescuers come up to get him.

That evening Bernard sits quietly on the beach where everyone has gathered.

Later that night, the survivors are sitting around a fire. Bernard gets up and walks toward Eko (who is sitting off to one side, staring out at the sea). On the verge of tears, Bernard tells Eko he heard that he is the one that pulled the dead bodies out of the water. Then he asks if any of them were African-American. Eko says no. A shaky Bernard explains that he can't find his wife and he thought maybe she might have been among those that Eko pulled from the ocean. Eko tells him, he will pray for her. Bernard then wonders where the rescue planes are and Eko says he will pray for them as well.

Bernard and the other survivors are awakened by the sounds of a struggle coming from nearby. He remains by the campfire as Ana Lucia and Goodwin grab torches and run off to investigate.

Day 2 (September 23, 2004)

Bernard sits with the other survivors and quietly listen as Ana Lucia, Nathan and Goodwin argue about whether to move camp or have a signal fire.

Day 5 (September 26, 2004)

Bernard stands next to Cindy, the flight attendant as the survivors bury Donald (who died from an infection due to his broken leg).

Day 7 (September 28, 2004)

Bernard sits next to Cindy by the fire as Goodwin roasts a chicken some of the survivors caught.

Day 12 (October 3, 2004)

Bernard sits quietly on the beach as Ana Lucia constructs a weapon to hunt for a pig she heard near their camp.

Later that night, Bernard is awakened when the "others" take nine more of their group of people, including the children. He stands next to Cindy as Lucia finds a list of names (the nine taken) in the pocket of a dead female intruder.

Ana Lucia is arguing with Nathan and insinuating that perhaps he gave the intruders their names and descriptions. Bernard asks why would anyone want to infiltrate their group and then comments "that's crazy!".

Day 15 (October 6, 2004)

The tail end survivors move away from the beach and start making their way through the jungle. They form a loose single line with Bernard in the middle. They stop by a shallow stream and Ana Lucia says they're only stopping for a 5 minute rest. Bernard sighs and complains that they have been walking for 3 days. Nathan insists that the group set up camp in that spot and after a short argument, Ana Lucia agrees.

Day 19 (October 10, 2004)

Bernard helps Nathan build a rabbit snare. He asks Nathan if he really believes he'll catch a rabbit with it. Bernard gets up to get another stick, says hi to Ana Lucia as she marches past him and kicks Nathan right in the face, knocking him out. Shocked Bernard yells out to Ana as she carries Nathan away.

After Ana dumps Nathan into the pit, she rejoins Bernard, Libby, Cindy and Goodwin. Ana tells them, Nathan was not on the plane and he's one of "them". Bernard questions her judgement, asking her "if he really were one of them why would he still be here?"

Day 23 (October 14, 2004)

Ana Lucia discovers someone has been sneaking food to Nathan. She approaches the other survivors and accuses Bernard of feeding Nathan. Bernard denies doing anything and then questions Ana Lucia, "and what if you're wrong, Ana? We don't even know if there is a spy."

Day 24 (October 15, 2004)

That morning, Cindy runs into camp and tells everyone that Nathan is gone. Bernard and the other survivors gather round the opening of the empty pit.

Day 26 (October 17, 2004)

Bernard and the rest of the survivors emerge from the jungle and see that they have arrived at another beach.

Day 27 (October 18, 2004)

Walking once again in the jungle, Bernard and the other survivors come upon a wooden door. Bernard watches as Eko pulls the heavy door open.

They all enter the enclosure with lit torches in hand. Bernard and the others gather around a chest Ana Lucia found and Bernard helps lift the lid off of it. Reaching into the chest, Bernard brings out a short wave radio and tells everyone else to look at what he found.

Everyone goes outside and Bernard tries to get someone on the radio. All he has managed to get is static, when Goodwin grabs it out of his hand and lowers the antenna, remarking that the hills are blocking the signal.

Bernard is sitting with Cindy and Libby when Ana Lucia returns alone from her walk with Goodwin to higher ground to try the radio. Libby asks "Where's Goodwin?" Ana replies, "We're safe now". Bernard quietly digests that information and stares down at the ground.

Day 41 (November 1, 2004)

Everyone is working around the campsite. Bernard is trying to pick up a signal on the short wave radio. Ana asks him why he bothers. Suddenly, a voice is heard through the radio:

BOONE [on the radio]: Hello. Hello, anybody out there? Mayday. Mayday.
BERNARD: Is there someone there?
BOONE Hello! Hello!
CINDY: Who is that? Oh my god!
BOONECan you hear me?
BERNARD: Repeat your transmission, please.
BOONE: Hello. We're survivors of the crash of Oceanic flight 815. Please copy.
BERNARD: : We're the survivors of flight 815.

Ana Lucia grabs the radio from Bernard and shuts it off. She tells them it's the "others" and they're trying to figure out their location. Bernard protests saying the voice said they were survivors of flight 815 and what if there really are other survivors. Ana Lucia tells Bernard there are no other survivors.

Day 45 (November 5, 2004)

Bernard stands in a circle with the other tail end survivors and discusses their new captive, Jin. Bernard remarks that he doesn't even speak English. All the tail end survivors give chase when Jin escapes and runs toward the beach.

After Eko hits Michael, Sawyer and Jin with his stick and knocks them out, Bernard helps drag the unconscious trio to the pit Ana Lucia dug to imprison Nathan.

Day 46 (November 6, 2004)
2.04 Everybody Hates Hugo

From inside, Bernard opens the Arrow Station door in response to Ana Lucia's "secret knocking code".

Later that night, Bernard breaks away from the other tail end survivors and approaches Michael, Sawyer and Jin. Nervously he asks them if back at the fuselage camp, there's a woman named Rose. After hearing that there is and that she's all right, Bernard starts quietly sobbing with relief. Then he introduces himself to the three of them.

Day 47 (November 7, 2004)
2.05 ........And Found

Bernard, Ana Lucia, Libby, Eko and Cindy stand around their fire in the Arrow Station, talking quietly. Bernard follows Ana Lucia over to Michael, Sawyer and Jin and stands behind her as she tells them they are going to help gather supplies and then lead them to the fuselage camp.

Bernard talks to Cindy in the background as Ana Lucia gives everyone their jobs to do. She announces that she and Bernard are going to catch fish. Upon Sawyer's advice they take Jin with them.

Bernard and Ana Lucia try without success to catch some fish as Jin sits on a rock, breaking off pieces of sea urchin and tossing them into the sea nearby. Bernard listens as a frustrated Ana Lucia yells at Jin for not helping. Bernard looks on in wonder as Jin tosses his net into the sea and hauls in several fish.

Back at the campsite, Bernard helps Cindy and Ana Lucia and Jin pack the food supplies for the upcoming march to the fuselage camp.

Libby runs into camp announcing that Michael ran off into the jungle. Bernard listens as Ana Lucia tells everyone they are leaving now. Jin talks excitedly to Sawyer while Bernard asks "what's he saying?". Bernard continues to watch quietly as Eko and Jin set off into the jungle in search of Michael.

Bernard is second in the line of survivors following Ana Lucia through the jungle. Sawyer, weak from his injury, sits down to rest causing a halt to their progress. Bernard shares his water bottle with Libby and quietly talks to her as Ana Lucia and Sawyer have a conversation about leaving Sawyer behind. After resting, Sawyer gets up and Bernard, along with the rest of the group, continues on the journey.

2.06 Abandoned

Later that night, Bernard is awakened from sleep when Eko, Michael and Jin rejoin the camp. Eko has seen the "others" and urges everyone to leave now. Bernard gathers up his pack and supplies and walks with the other survivors through the dark jungle.

Day 48 (November 8, 2004)

The next morning, Bernard and the other survivors are walking up a hill when Sawyer stumbles and sinks to one knee. Bernard waits quietly leaning on his heavy "walking stick" as Libby attends to Sawyer. Once Sawyer is back on his feet, Bernard waits for him. As Sawyer passes him, Bernard offers to lend him a hand but Sawyer just keeps on walking.

Later, Bernard struggles up the rocky coastline relying heavily upon his walking stick. Bernard rests, sitting on a piece of driftwood as Eko and Ana Lucia discuss their route.

After turning inland and quietly moving through the jungle, Sawyer stumbles and conversation breaks out between Sawyer and Jin. Ana Lucia doubles back and tells everyone to be quiet. Bernard stands quietly and listens as she tells Michael, Sawyer and Jin their experiences with the "others" and hence the need for stealth.

The group is making its way through some high weeds when Bernard hears Sawyer stumble. Bernard turns around and offers to help him. An argument breaks out between Jin, Michael and Sawyer resulting in Sawyer trying to walk on his own, but he collapses and passes out. Ana Lucia tells the group that they have to keep moving so if Michael and Jin want to stay with Sawyer that's fine. Compassionately, Bernard tells Ana Lucia, "We can't just leave him, Ana." Michael asks Bernard for help building a stretcher and Bernard goes off looking for 5-feet-long sturdy sticks.

The group continues to make their way through the jungle, now carrying Sawyer's stretcher. Bernard and the other survivors come to a halt at the base of a steep hill. There's a tree with huge exposed roots growing up the side of the hill. Bernard stares with trepidation as he anticipates the climb ahead.

Bernard becomes part of a human chain along the roots on the hillside and together with the other survivors pass Sawyer's stretcher and other supplies to the next person above them. After all the supplies are passed upward, Bernard continues to climb until he reaches the top. It's at this point that Ana Lucia discovers Cindy is missing. An incredulous Bernard remarks "she was just here" and starts calling her name. Bernard listens as Ana Lucia and Eko argue over going back for Cindy and then he hears the loud whispers. Bernard fearfully looks around as Ana Lucia yells "run!".

2.07 The Other 48 Days

The sky grows dark, rolls of thunder sound and it begins to rain hard. Bernard calls Cindy's name and clutches his walking stick, ready to use it as a weapon. The whispers grow louder, adding to the groups confusion and fear. Ana Lucia hears a sound a swings her gun and fires.

2.08 Collision

Bernard stands with the other survivors as Sayid and Eko fight. After Ana Lucia knocks Sayid out and grabs his gun she trains it on the rest of the survivors including Bernard. Ana Lucia fires the gun in the air as Michael advances on her. Bernard yells out "Ana" admonishing her. Bernard stares unbelievingly first at Ana Lucia and then at Michael and Jin. Bernard watches tensely as Eko refuses Ana's order to tie Sayid up.

Bernard watches as Eko gives Sawyer some water. Then he talks quietly to Michael. Bernard steps out of Eko's way and Eko moves past carrying Sawyer on his shoulder. Bernard watches as Ana Lucia fails to prevent Eko from leaving with Sawyer.

Bernard removes the vines from the stretcher and starts rolling them up as he watches Michael defy Ana Lucia and give Sayid some water to drink. Then Bernard sits and talks to Libby while Michael is talking to Sayid.

Bernard walks quietly over to Ana Lucia who is sitting on a tree limb. He kneels down and in a hushed tone asks her what they are doing there. The camp has got to be close by. He tells her he just wants to get back to his wife. Bernard sighs and looks downward as Ana Lucia reminds him how long she's helped keep him alive. Libby joins Bernard and tells Ana Lucia they just want to know what the plan is.

A puzzled Bernard listens as Ana Lucia jumps up saying she'll give them a plan. Ana Lucia tells Michael to go to the fuselage camp and bring back supplies for her. Once he returns, she'll let everyone else leave.

Bernard starts to pack up when Ana Lucia approaches him and asks him what he is doing. Bernard tells Ana Lucia that he's going, he doesn't want to be a part of what she is doing. Bernard acknowledges Ana Lucia's part in helping him survive and thanks her for that but ends with he's going anyway. Libby and Jin (with a nod from Sayid) join Bernard and the three of them set off for the fuselage camp.

Jin, Libby and Bernard emerge from the jungle. Bernard is slowly making his way up the beach as the other fuselage survivors run to meet Jin. Bernard moves among the people and through an opening sees Rose. Bernard begins to smile and runs up to Rose and embraces her. He holds her for a long time, then they draw back and look into each other's eyes. Bernard holds Rose's face between his hands and leans in to sweetly kiss the woman he loves.

Day 60 (November 20, 2004)
2.16 The Whole Truth

Bernard and Rose are bickering as they walk up the beach. Bernard tells Rose she needs to give him a break. They both see Sun leaning against a tree and in apparent pain. They quickly run to her side. Sun tells them that she's just lightheaded. Bernard remarks that she's "as pale as a sheet". Rose snaps at Bernard to give her some water. Bernard, somewhat perturbed looks at Rose and derisively says "yes ma'am", as he uncaps a water bottle and hands it to Sun.

The two continue for a moment to bicker and then Bernard suggests they should go get Jin. Sun quickly says "no!" and then states that she thinks she was just out in the sun too long. Then Sun walks off leaving both Bernard and Rose staring after her.

Later, standing at the edge of the ocean, a frustrated Bernard throws down a tangled fishing net. Jin approaches Bernard with his own fishing net thrown over his shoulder. Jin speaks rapidly in Korean. Bernard tells Jin, no - he's not trying to catch fish. Bernard tells Jin - oysters and then, using his hands, he mimics an oyster shell opening and picking something out of it. He then tells Jin - pearl - for Rose. Jin then indicates he understands and through motions and selected words, he tells Bernard there are no oysters here. Dejected, Bernard sarcastically states, "Ah, of course not. Why would there be?"

Sawyer approaches and greets Jin by calling him Daddio. Then he tells Bernard that he would give him a cigar but he's fresh out. Bernard says "Sun's pregnant?". Sawyer says to keep it down as he doesn't think Jin knows yet.

2.19 S.O.S.

Bernard, with a disgruntled look on his face, is stacking Dharma food on a "home-made" open shelf. He places the cereal in the wrong spot and Rose tells him to move it to the left. Bernard is bothered by the food and asks Rose if she isn't remotely curious where it all came from. Rose tells Bernard she "was raised not to question her blessings". Bernard laughs sardonically and says he "was raised to question piles of food with weird labels that just fall out of the sky".

After Rose tells him he's having a bad day and to lower his voice, Bernard says, "I had 7 weeks of bad days on the other side of the island just trying to stay alive so I could get back to you. Here -- my God, Rose -- they've built a kitchen on the beach. They've given up." Bernard is upset and somewhat puzzled at the other survivors' attitude. He thinks everyone has given up on being rescued.

(Flashback - Bernard approaches a car stuck in the snow. He taps on the window and tells the female driver not to gun it, just tap on the gas lightly. She tells him she's been driving in snow all her life and knows what she's doing. After another attempt, she tells Bernard she's calling AAA. Bernard tells her to trust him, he can get her out - she doesn't need a tow truck.

Bernard hurries to the back of the car, slipping and almost falling down. Pushing the car from behind, Bernard yells to ease on the gas. As the car pulls forward, Bernard falls face-down in the snow. Getting up, he tells the woman he's okay. They both laugh and introduce themselves; she tells him her name is Rose. After an awkward moment, Bernard steps back up on the sidewalk and starts walking away. He turns, waves and tells Rose to drive safely. As he gets into his car, Rose calls to him and asks if she can buy him a cup of coffee. Bernard grins and accepts her invitation.)

Smiling, Bernard strides up to Hurley (who is having a conversation with Rose) and asks him to get Libby and several other people - as many as he can get - and everybody meet him at the tree line in five minutes. Hurley agrees and walks off. Bernard starts walking away, but Rose stops him asking "what are you up to?". Bernard grins, winks and says "I got an idea!". He turns and walks over to a couple of other guys and starts talking to them.

Bernard meets with a group of survivors at the tree line. They are all circled around him as he talks. Bernard tells them they have all been on the island for two months now. They have a water trough, a food pantry and everyone is enjoying showers in the hatch. Then he asks them if they've forgotten that we all crashed on the island and doesn't anyone want to go home? Bernard explains that the pallet of food had a parachute which means that a plane flew over the island and that means other planes must fly over as well. He tells everyone that they are going to build a massive sign along the beach, so anyone flying over - even a satellite - will know they are there.

The other survivors are nodding their heads in agreement, when Rose pipes up saying "maybe we should talk to Jack about this?". Bernard sarcastically asks if they have run everything by Jack - he's not the president - just a doctor. Rose cuts Bernard down by saying "you're a dentist". As several of the group chuckle, an embarrassed Bernard pulls Rose aside for a private conversation. A little perturbed, Bernard tells Rose he doesn't see the harm in building a sign. Angrily Rose tells Bernard that he's giving everyone false hope. Bernard coldly excuses himself saying he's got a sign to build and returns to the group.

(Flashback - Bernard and Rose are sitting in a restaurant by a window with an awesome view of Niagara Falls. Rose is commenting on the view, but Bernard is signaling someone. A couple of violin players come up to the table and start playing a romantic melody. Bernard gets up and walks over to Rose, then lowers himself to one knee. He tells her that he's always been a bachelor and they've only known each other five months but he thinks that's long enough since he knew after five minutes that he was in love with her. He opens a ring box and asks her to marry him.

Rose tells Bernard she's dying - she's sick and she's dying. A shocked and devastated Bernard just stares at her and then he excuses the violin players. Bernard sits back down at the table. Rose tells Bernard that she's been in remission but now the cancer is back and the doctor gave her about a year to live. Bernard looks sadly at her and says, "you haven't answered my question". Rose says, "Are you sure?"

Bernard, face filled with love and compassion, takes Rose's hands in both of his and tells her he is sure. Rose accepts his proposal.)

Bernard approaches Eko and Charlie as they are carrying a log. He tells them he has a team down the beach putting together a big sign with the hope that some plane will spot it. Then Bernard asks for their help. Eko and Charlie both tell him they're busy. Somewhat crestfallen, Bernard turns and sees a stack of logs. He asks if he can use some of them. Eko says no and Bernard asks what are they using them for and then gets perturbed when told "a church". Bernard (totally exasperated) tells them he's trying to get them saved and everybody else is just building something. Eko tells Bernard that people are saved in different ways. Bernard retorts:

I think I liked you better when you just hit people with your stick

Then Bernard stomps off back down the beach.

Bernard arrives back at the beach pulling a tarp filled with rocks. There are a number of other survivors waiting for him but not nearly as many as volunteered initially. Bernard tells everyone the sign has to be really big, about 40 feet and says "we'll use the black rocks to get maximum contrast with the sand." He tells the remaining team members to pair up and go inland about a half mile to an area with a lot of lava rocks and start hauling them to the beach while he sketches out the letters in the sand. The team isn't crazy about hauling the lava rocks but Bernard tells them it will be worth it if it gets them off the island. So everyone goes to work.

(Flashback - Bernard is driving a jeep down a bumpy dirt road in Australia. Rose is in the passenger seat bemoaning that they are lost. Bernard laughs and says he knows exactly where they are going. Rose remarks that she wanted to be on a beach on their honeymoon not driving around in circles in the Outback.

Bernard pulls the jeep into a area with a couple of buildings, a few people and a small herd of sheep. Rose is relieved and tells Bernard to ask for directions. Bernard turns to Rose and tells her they are not lost. He reaches around to the back seat and grabs some papers. Bernard tells Rose he brought her out there to see someone - a man named Isaac of Uluru. Then he hands her the papers. Rose starts to read and then throws the papers down and exclaims "You brought me to a faith healer?". Annoyed Rose gets out of the car, Bernard circles around and reassures her that Isaac is the "real deal".

Rose screams at Bernard and then gets real quiet and tells him she's accepted her situation. Steeled with determination, eyes brimming with tears, Bernard says:

Well, I haven't. I can't just do nothing, Rose. That's not me. That's not who I am. I have to try. Will you try, Rose? For me.

Bernard is talking to Sawyer, trying to to get him to help with the sign, but has no success. He turns and walks over to Rose at the water trough. Embittered, Bernard tells Rose that he hopes she's happy. He started out with 15 people and now he's down to just 4 left on the "team". Rose asks how is that her fault. Bernard bemoans the fact that instead of supporting him, she attacks him. Rose asks him if maybe he has a management problem. Angrily Bernard snaps "What is the matter with you, Rose? I am just trying to do something." Rose retorts that's the problem - why can't he just let things be? Bernard quips:

If I didn't always have to do something you wouldn't be here.

Bernard watches as Rose gathers her things and walks away.

Later, Bernard arrives at the SOS spot on the beach, again dragging a tarp full of rocks. Jin is the only other person at the site and he has placed the rocks in a single line along the curve of the first S. Bernard drops the tarp and explodes. He yells at Jin, telling him he's doing it all wrong and then stomps over to fix it himself. Jin shrugs and starts to walk off (as if to say - fine , do it yourself). Bernard runs after him and pleads with him to stay and help:

No, no, no. No, Jin. No, wait. Please, I just want to get my wife home. Rose. I want to get Rose home.

Jin says "sorry" turns and leaves.

(Flashback - Bernard waits outside while Rose goes into a building to see Isaac. Bernard strikes up a conversation with a little girl on crutches. She's holding a small bouquet of flowers (personal speculation perhaps Bernard picked them and gave them to her?). Both of them talk and laugh.)

Bernard, sweating profusely, is working alone on the SOS sign when Rose arrives with some supper for him. Rose tells Bernard she lied to him. Bernard drops the rock into place and then turns and stares at Rose. She continues to tell him that Isaac did not cure her. Bernard objects and gets up and walks over to her.

(Flashback- Bernard and Rose are sitting in a waiting area at the airport. Bernard removes their airline tickets from a zippered bag. Then he gets up, holding Rose's hand. He says something and they both smile. Then Bernard walks off leaving Rose sitting in the waiting area.)

Rose tells Bernard that the island has healed her. Bernard doesn't believe her at first, but Rose convinces him that she knows what she is talking about and "this place" has healed her. Bernard, with tears in his eyes, tells Rose:

You don't want to be rescued, do you? You think if you leave it'll come back. And if you can't leave, neither can I. We won't ever leave Rose.

Lovingly taking her face between his hands, Bernard leans in and kisses Rose. Then they embrace.

After a few minutes, Bernard jokingly says he would take down the sign but they didn't get very far.

Later that night, Bernard and Rose snuggle by the campfire, content with their love and happy to be in each other's arms.

Bernard, standing on the beach, holds his hands over his ears as a deafening noise shatters the day. It's accompanied by an ultra bright light making the blue sky appear violet.

When the sound dissipates and the bright light fades, Bernard is standing near Claire, who is holding Aaron. Both look around in confusion and then Bernard looks up toward the sky. He stares at a spinning object, then realizes it is heading right for the spot they are standing on. Bernard turns, grabs Claire, runs, and half-way dives to the ground, narrowly escaping the hatch quarantine door when it slices into the ground. As the sand settles, Bernard, wide-eyed stares at the door jutting up from the sand.

3.21 Greatest Hits

Bernard and Rose are standing on the beach tying some of the stripped wiring from the wreckage. Bernard, holding up his wires, tells his wife, "Rose, that's a sailor's hitch. It's not gonna hold. You want to do a sheet bend like mine." Rose replies, "Oh, so now you're knot expert." Bernard laughs and then says, "Oh, well trust me it's uh... " Rose laughs and pulls one end of Bernard's "sheet bend" knot which quickly releases the wires. Bernard stares in shock as she then holds her tied wires and shows that they are firmly knotted and not coming apart. Bernard asks, "How did you do that?" Rose takes the wires from Bernard's hands and replies, "Watch and learn, dear ... watch and learn."

A short time later, Bernard (hearing Hurley's alarm about an intruder), arrives with the other survivors circled around Sayid and the newcomer. Sawyer yells at Sayid to get off of him. Enraged, Sayid looks up at Sawyer and yells, "What?! He's one of them!" Sawyer calms Sayid down explaining that he knows him as he was in the cage next to him. Then Sawyer asks the young man, "What the hell are you doing here, Karl?"

Bernard stands next to Jin as he listens to the conversation. Agitated and gasping for breath, Karl tells everyone that his people are coming. Sawyer replies, "Sorry you came all this way for nothing, but we already know." Karl is shocked and blurts out, "Then why are you still here?!" Sawyer calmly replies, "Cause when your people show up here tomorrow night, we're gonna be ready for them." Karl stares at Sawyer and shaking his head says, "Tomorrow? No! No, they're coming tonight!" Bernard and the other survivors look around at each other in shock and dismay. Then Karl yells, "They're coming right now!"

Bernard and the other survivors gather near the community kitchen area to talk to Karl, who has arrived to inform them that the "others" are coming tonight not tomorrow night. After Jack makes sure that Karl has told them everything, he turns to Kate and asks her if she trusts him. Karl gets angry and says, "You don't trust me?!" Then he he points to Juliet and says, "What about her? She's a spy! She's supposed to mark the tents of the pregnant women with white rocks so they can take them." All eyes turn toward Juliet as she nods, and glibly answers Karl, "They know, Karl ... but thanks."

Hurley asks, "So what are we going to do?" Sun replies, "We have to leave now ... hide! But Bernard retorts, "Where? It's their Island. If they want to kill us -- they'll find us." Jack tells everyone, "The sun's going to go down in a few hours." Then he asks Danielle if they have enough wire, but she says, "Not even close." Jack replies, "We've got to figure out a different way of setting the dynamite off." Sayid responds, "We could shoot." But Jack objects, saying, "We don't have enough guns. He said that 10 of them are coming...armed." Sayid then explains, "Not the "others" ... the tents. We can camouflage the dynamite next to the tents ... target it from our positions at the tree line." Jack replies, "Juliet marked three tents, that means we need three guns."

Everyone quickly ducks and shies away as Karl pulls out his gun. But he hands the gun to Sayid, saying, "Here. You can have mine too." Danielle volunteers to be one of the shooters. Jack tells her that they'll take her gun but she needs to lead everyone to the radio tower. Jack explains that if the plan doesn't work they can't risk losing the chance to contact Naomi's boat and then adds "So, everything has to happen at the same time." Then, turning to Charlie, Jack asks, "Charlie? You still up for a swim?" Charlie replies, "Yeah, I believe I am." Then Desmond volunteers to go with him. Jack nods and looking around says to the group at large, "Okay! We'd better get to it!"

Later, Bernard demonstrates his shooting ability. As Sayid and Rose watch, he expertly shoots two food cans. Lowering his rifle, Bernard asks Sayid, "You want me to hit another one?" Sayid replies, "No, you've made your point." Rose, however is not pleased. She reminds Bernard that this is not pheasant hunting and pheasants don't shoot back. Bernard shakes his head and reassures Rose that nothing is going to happen to him, adding, "I just have to shoot a tent and I'll be right behind you." Rose replies, "Then I'm staying too."

Jack approaches and hearing their conversation says, "No you're not, Rose." Then Jack points down the beach and adds, "Everyone's gathering down at the South end of the beach. No one's staying behind but the shooters." Rose retorts, "Says who? You want to give me your word that nothing's going to happen to my husband, then I'll go." Jack looks at Rose and says bluntly, " I'll give you my word that if we don't kill everyone that shows up here in about an hour...it's not gonna matter where Bernard is." Rose replies, "I like you better since you got back, Jack. You're almost an optimist. " Then she turns to Bernard, extends her hand and tells him, "Come on. If you're going to be hiding in the bushes, let's get you into something dark."

Day 92 (December 22, 2004) Wednesday
3.22 Through the Looking Glass (Part One)

Bernard checks his rifle as Rose gives a couple of other survivors her gear. She returns to Bernard and asks, " If I told you that I'd help you with your SOS sign, would you change your mind?" Bernard shakes his head and says, "No ma'am." Rose replies, "Then I want you to say it again." Exasperated, Bernard turns his head while saying, "Rose!" But Rose doesn't waiver as she says, "Say it, Bernard." Bernard lets out a big sigh of resignation and then says, "I am a dentist. I am not Rambo." Rose narrows her eyes and says, "And don't you forget it." Then they give each other a big hug.

Jack walks through the gathering survivors and says loudly, "All right! Let's do it." Everyone starts to move out, leaving Bernard, Jin and Sayid staring solemnly after them.

Later that night, the three men are hidden in the jungle fringe quietly waiting for the "others" to attack. Bernard watches as the others silently move into the camp. He quickly raises his rifle and aims at his mark as waits for the right moment to pull the trigger. A woman opens the flap of one of the marked tents. She turns and yells, "It's empty!" One of the men yells back, "Get away from the tent!" But she's too late. A shot rings out in the night and one of the tents explode killing several of the intruders.

As the others start to move away out of danger, Bernard whispers, "Please God" and pulls the trigger. He hits the mark as another tent explodes killing several more of their people. Several shots are fired and a few of the others start firing in Jin's direction advancing on his position. Bernard sees Jin shoot two of the others and try to change his position. But one of the others (Ryan) slams his rifle butt into Jin's head. Ryan yells out, I've got your man! Drop your weapons!"

Bernard moves quickly, trying to circle around behind them, but is knocked down by Tom. As Bernard starts to react, Tom kicks him in the head -- knocking him out.

A short time later, Tom has contacted Ben, using the walkie-talkie. Both sides of the conversation can be heard by everyone as Tom paces back and forth in front of the kneeling prisoners -- Bernard, Jin and Sayid. Tom is upset and quickly tells Ben that they killed seven of their people and Shephard is gone with all of the survivors except for the three that stayed behind to blow up the tents. Then he tells Ben the survivors knew they were coming. Ben deduces that Juliet betrayed them and then tells Tom to figure out where she is.

Ryan grabs Sayid and roughly pulls him to his feet, saying, "Okay junior, where the hell did ..." Sayid defiantly spits in Ryan's face! Ryan slams his gun into Sayid's face, knocking him down to the ground.

Tom tells Ben, "They're not talking." Ben asks, "Who do you have?" After Tom tells him, "Jarrah, Kwon, and the dentist", Ben tells him to shoot Kwon. Puzzled, Tom asks, "What?" Ben replies tersely, "If you want them to answer questions, kill Kwon. Do it now!"

Bernard is shocked and with wide eyes looks over at Jin. As Ryan is about to shoot Jin, Bernard, who is in a highly agitated state, cries out, "No! Wait! No!" Jin quickly turns to him and says, "No! No talk!" Bernard keeps pleading, "No! Please!" Tom leans in and quickly says, "Talk to me. Nobody will get hurt. Now tell me where your people are." Sayid, kneeling next to Bernard, says, "Bernard, he's lying. He's going to kill us all and...." Tom kicks Sayid right in the face, knocking him down and out cold. Ryan, yells at Bernard, "Where ... are ... they?" Bernard hesitates and Ryan cocks his gun and tells Jin, "Sayonara."

Bernard caves in and tells them, "A radio tower. They're hiking to a radio tower." Tom asks why they are going there and Bernard tells them about Naomi and the hopes of contacting her ship with the satellite phone. Ben's voice comes in over the walk-talkie, "Juliet thought we were coming tomorrow. So why were they waiting for us tonight?" After being prodded by Ryan, Bernard tells them that Karl arrived in a canoe and warned them.

Tom asks Ben, "What do you want us to do? Kill them?" Ben replies, "No ... not yet."

Day 93 (December 23, 2004) Thursday
3.23 Through the Looking Glass (Part Two)

(The next day, Ben contacts Tom over the walkie-talkie and although we cannot see what is happening to Sayid, Bernard and Jin, we can hear some of the action over the walkie-talkie as Ben keeps the channel open so Jack can hear.
Ben asks Tom if he's there and Tom replies, "Yes, I'm here." Sayid's voice comes over the air waves, "Jack! Don't give him anything!" Then Bernard says, "Leave him alone!" One of the others (Ryan) says gruffly, "I said shut up!" Then scuffling noises are heard as someone is beaten.

Ben tells Tom, "Unless you hear my voice in one minute ... shoot all three of them." Tom replies, "Got it!" Ryan barks out, "I said -- don't move!" Bernard yells, "Stop!" Jin says something in Korean. Sayid says, "Don't negotiate with him .." Then he is cut off as Ryan says, "Gag him!" There are more sounds of someone being beaten. Bernard calls out, "No!" A gunshot rings out. Bernard yells, "No!" Then two more shots are heard. Then ... silence.)

Ryan and Tom argue as they walk through the beach camp where the charred remains of the dead "others" are laid out in the sand. Ryan tells Tom, "That was an order, Tom. We had to follow it." They come to a stop and face each other as Tom says, "Ben doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. He's lost it! I mean look at what they did to us! Instead of putting three bullets in the damned sand -- we should have killed them for real!" Then they both look over to Bernard, Sayid and Jin. All three men are bound and gagged -- and alive! They kneel next to each other as another one of Ben's people stands guard over them.

Bernard, Sayid and Jin turn as one when they hear something plowing through the jungle. Just as they turn, a DHARMA van with Hurley behind the wheel, crashes through one of the shelters! They continue to watch as the van strikes Ryan as he shoots at it. After running over Ryan, Hurley brings the van to a stop opposite the three prisoners.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/clayseason/lost/season3/looking%20glass/bernard/th_3x22-glass1587.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/clayseason/lost/season3/looking%20glass/bernard/3x22-glass1587.jpg)

The man that is guarding Bernard, Sayid and Jin circles around to the front of the prisoners and looks over toward the DHARMA van. As the guard passes in front of them, Sayid drops back and sweeps his right leg forcefully across the guard's legs -- sweeping him off of his feet. Losing no time, Sayid locks his legs around the man's head and twists hard -- breaking the man's neck! Bernard stares at Sayid in astonishment and maybe ... a little fear.

Still kneeling, Bernard watches as Juliet takes Tom prisoner. Sawyer approaches and Tom raises his hands in the air, surrendering. Sawyer shoots him in the chest, killing him!

Later, as Hurley contacts Jack using the "others" walkie-talkie, Bernard sits on the beach near Jin and relaxes after their ordeal. Bernard sees Hurley looking over at them and waves at him.

End note: Many thanks to spooky and vonnegut for their hard work on the transcripts. You are awesome!
