First of all - I LOVE THIS SHOW!!
Second, am I the only one here is who thinking a more adult, prime time version of Gilligan's Island? Realistically, the only serino that would allow for long-term survival of the series is a Gilliagn's Island type theme.
I believe the show will become about how the survivors go about surviving. The flash-back stories of the characters will continue to be played out as we are further introduced to the main players. We will then follow them through acceptance of their situation and development of a civilization (building shelter, gathering food, establishing laws). I see story lines relating to their interaction with the island itself - terrain, plant and animal life. Perhaps an occasional brush with rescue. We will see interaction amongst characters maybe divisions.
This theme has worked in the past - who didn’t watch Gilligan’s Island? I like the idea of a more grown up
version of a past favorite. I hope the writers don’t disappoint us.

Sleeestack: If you're reading this we obviously need a new song.

Hmmm .... who are the Gilligan's island archetypes on the show?
Shannon = Ginger
Claire = Maryanne
Sayid = The Professor
Charlie = Gilligan

I'm no Sleeestack, but here's my song:
The Ballad of Lostaways Isle
Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip,
That started from Down Under,
And quickly turned to s—t.
The crew was using Charlie’s stash,
The one kept in his shoe,
And soon the plane was falling,
There was nothing they could do.
There was nothing they could do…
The plane crashed onto sandy beach,
The people crushed and red,
If not for the courage of a fearless doc,
The baby might be dead.
The baby might be dead…
The lost ones stagger helplessly,
No food, no house, no drink,
A more confused assembly,
They never stop to think.
There’s handcuffed Kate,
An addict too,
Some throwaways and a kid,
The gorgeous hunks,
A man called Locke and
A husky dude.
Here on Lostaways Isle!

The throwaways are the Red Shirts, the monster food, the bait.

Hey, I'm suddenly reminded of this pic, which I found posted at theonering.net back in March, after the first news about the show and it's casting appeared!

As much as I loved Gilligan's island, I remember desperately hoping Lost wouldn't end up being really campy... it's funny now remembering the early speculation & worry about the show.

At first, I was worried that the show would be Land of the Lost meets Gilligan's Island. The reassurance of the producers that the "creature" is not a dino eased my mind. Once the creature fed on all of the survivors the show would just end. This way, at least there is a possibility of longevity.

I love Charlie in the picture :)
I think this is heading in more the Lord of the Flies direction, Except this time the Ralph is named Jack and the Jack is named Sawyer.

Very, very well done Jack's Girl.
We should start a band. Something tells me that Pinnerman plays a mean bass guitar!

Just because of the conversation between locke and jack, I got this whole feeling that maybe they were on a "Fantasy Island"! I might be showing my age here but those who remember fantasy island, remember that people who went to the island wanted one thing, but the island would wind up showing them what they really needed. Kinda the same message locke was telling jack after he pulled him up off the ledge and that kind of gives a reason why locke can walk now. Maybe they are on the other side of fantasy Island and they will run into Mr.Rourk and Tattoo later on! Just look for the red doorless stationwagons with the red and white awning tops!!! :) and before people start wasting space telling me I am an idiot!!! I already know!!! :)
I love this show though! It just keeps getting better and better!!! good watching people!!! have fun out there, I am in here!!! :)

After Jack's speach about not being rescued, I definately feel like the theme of the show isn't going to be about the "thing" living in the jungle or how they came about being here as much as its going to be about how they survive. The flashbacks are simply for the purpose of defining the main characters.
