Hi, all.
This is my first post. I am an independant filmmaker and I love Lost.
Does anyone else enjoy the visuals of Kate, Claire, or Shannon always sweating? It's just a thing I've always enjoyed.
Does anyone else?

Sayid sweating? Hell yeah! :)
Yes, sweaty pretty people, cool. More sweat.
But what I always think is weird is the sweat patterns people end up with. In the first few episodes they had people sweating on the top of their shoulders. That cracked me up. Some wardrobe person or set person must have been new.

I noticed that in the episode where they go on the hike and discover the French woman's signal, Shannon didn't really sweat at all. The first real time I've noticed her sweaty was the Asthma episode.
Also, don't know if anyone mentioned but back in the ep "Tabula Rasa' The farmer guy Kate was with had only 1 arm and later Hurley asked about the Fugitive, and in that movie, he was being chased by the one armed man. This probably was mentioned already.
But yeah, Pretty girls, sweating is always a nice visual image.
As a filmmaker I am always watching for the camera moves and angles used in the series. They are very well done and help display the emotion. Like quick whips and pans during frantic scenes and slow pulls inward during a dramatic speech by a character.
I love this show.

good catch on the one-armed man! this was indeed confirmed in a TVGuide article at some point. one of the creators said it was deliberate.
i am so bad at catching stuff like that. i'm sure "Lost" is a goldmine of references...

I also studied film making and even did a short student film.
The photography of this show has been superb of course. The only thing I don't like its excessive use of hand held camera. I mean, its good to use once in a while, but I think they are overdoing it in "Lost"
Handheld camera shots are used at this level to add more dynamism to the scenes, but I don't think that it is really needed in many of the shots. The fact that they are using this type of photography might be symptomatic of a lack of confidence on the scripts or even acting ability. But maybe now that the directors are seeing just how strong the scripts really are, and how good the actors are turning out to be, they might start minimizing hand held shots.
Actually, I haven't noticed a lot of unnecessary hand-held. I mean, it's more than most tv dramas, but most tv dramas aren't set on mysterious islands where people are literally running around all the time. Some of those shots of people running feel hand-held even though they aren't. Usually, it's pretty purposeful. We get hand-held shots when a character is freaked out like Jack in White Rabbit or Sayid in Solitary, or, when people are fighting. Pretty typical, really.
If I were to complain about anything, it's that the cave shots are too dark. Yes, I know, they're in some caves, but I'd still like to see what's going on. Hello?
But kudos to everyone. It must be a mess trying to shoot on a beach, and trying to figure out how dark caves should be, and shooting with rain, etc, etc.
Occasionally, they do some nice long shots with characters coming and going and panning from scene to scene. That's pretty nice. Usually, they just do the typical, close-up/close-up/two-shot. Boring.
Very occasionally, the shots are breathtaking, and I am in love. I'll be sad if they don't shoot at the beach very often anymore.

SWEAT: I thought I said this on a thread...musta been on chat....Locke's irregular sweat patterns from last week (#11) were distracting to me. It changed from scene to scene. There is a large enclosed set near the beach where they film. If they need to go back and reshoot, the continuity person should have plenty of room to check the previous shots. I know that is nit picking...but that is what this thread is about!!

I just had a really cool idea. Maybe we can all put together a Lost Fan Film. Like shoot in Cali on a beach somewhere. I would love to direct something like that. THey did a paraody thing of Alias and they actually got J.J. Abrams to watch it!

I was thinking. Maybe they can auction off the wardrobe from Kate off Ebay. Woo hoo!
