View Full Version : Rodrigo Santoro could stay lost for three more seasons

According to the column "Outro Canal", published today in the newspaper "Folha de S. Paulo", Rodrigo is in negotiation with ABC to do more three seasons of "Lost". The column is written by journalist Daniel Castro (dcastro@folhasp.com.br).
ABC went to talk to him last week to renew his contract till the end of the series, that should last six seasons. Rodrigo was surprised. According to people close to him, Santoro doesn't feel prepared to live in the US for so long because he's commited to films that will be shot in 2007 and has to carry out the last months of contract with Globo TV network. He was under contract with the network but got a non-paid release to be in the third season of Lost. Globo has the rights to air the series in Brazil, so the presence of a Brazilian actor in the show could attract more viewers. Globo also wants to renew the contract with Rodrigo. In the first negotiation with him, Rodrigo wanted to specify in contract that he wouldn't be obligated to do soap operas (only minisseries, sitcoms, specials, etc.). Although actors who are under contract with Globo can say no when they're called to appear in a soap opera, the network never put this kind of conditions in the contracts.
According to the newspaper, Santoro was elected the best surprise of the third season of Lost by the fan site "The Tail Section".

Jeez.. another reason not to go that board. Are you kidding me??? That's pretty sad, but I can't decide if it's a sad commentary on "The Tail Section" or on the show "LOST".

And I wasn't exactly surprised by Paulo's appearance. Despite the fact I avoid spoilers like the plague I was totally aware he was going to make an appearance (with his female counterpart distraction). I just had no idea how annoyed I'd be. So... that's a surprise.

Although I like Rodrigo as an actor and I liked his appearences in "Lost" till now, I respect the opinions of those who don't like his character or him as an actor. You don't need to limit your comments about Rodrigo or the character because of me or those who like him.

Homer, you're my favorite Mod, but I seriously question your taste. On the other hand you seem to favor characters who are female and hot, or who give you the biggest laugh on Wednesdays. Maybe I've found the clue to your picks, you see Lost as a comedy not as a drama, I envy that ability. If I had it, TPTB wouldn't piss me off so often.

I got a little scared, too. At the current rate of death I think we will run out of characters. They can't possibly pull off this "they were in the background the whole time" crap more than once - they haven't even pulled it off this time.
Although I like Rodrigo as an actor and I liked his appearences in "Lost" till now, I respect the opinions of those who don't like his character or him as an actor.
I really don't know anything about him as an actor, person, etc. I just know him as "Paulo" so he's an irritant and unwanted "character who came out of nowhere."
This has nothing to do with Rodrigo for me. I'm sure he's respected, liked, etc. If it brought you here, he's got to be reasonably okay.
But Paulo must die.

Khan.. it's not right to really question Homers taste regarding this issue.
Understanding the reasoning behind his support leads one to plainly see that he agrees that the guy is a total Rube. LOST is just a comedy for Homer, and it's all he ever expects out of it.

I think there has got to be a big twist in this Paolo character, tho we know nothing yet except he's a goof. He could turn out to be jacob for all we know. I want to see more than his ability to find toilets.
lol after seeing all the Paulo hate I'm suprised. I actually like his character (I'm not Brazilian) and I can't wait to see his flashback episode. I want to see this character unfold.
Oh I'm sure they're working on fixing the bad impression people have of character even as we speak, unless the actor is having second thoughts about staying. If he's very popular than the dislike directed his character could be too much.

TPTB should have thought long and hard before tossing these two in the mix without proper preparation. I feel bad for the actors themselves cause they certainly couldn't have been prepared for this "hate." But that's the price they'll have to pay for stupid decisions.
TPTB better be working on fixing this problem.

I dont believe that people are talking in terms of prejudice. It is the two characters people hate, and more specifically their sudden introductions (rather resembling a truck running people over).
Would have been better, for instance, if one of the regulars had overheard them talking and then the camera veered off the regular and followed them. Anything besides Nikki's screeching voice and Paulo's posed dumbness.
The actor is a fine looking fellow. No prejudice here...

First of all - there is no prejudice against any group here. We just don't happen to like Paulo (this has nothing to do with the actor) and the reason we don't like him is... well, we have many, but it has nothing to do with him being Brazilian (in fact, Rodrigo's cute and probably very nice).
Second of all - I had to edit your post cause we don't allow that kind of language on the board. Other people will probably catch it elsewhere, but you won't get away with it in here cause I'm in here all the time.
Third of all - you're welcome to love Paulo all you want, but you'll also have to put up with us cause, since we lost Boone, the character is our new scapegoat (Charlie just won't do).
I don't have problem with Rodrigo at all. Seems to be a pretty decent guy from everything I've read.
However, I can't stand Paulo. Everything I've ever written about the guy has been about his character, not the actor. Differentiation is a wonderful thing.

I completely agree that with the loss of Boone, people need another scapegoat. But it seemed like people are just complaining without any good reason, since Sawyer was a prick too ( just as Kate ), but with time, with the development of the character, and with a background story being builded, we can change our minds. The main thing in Lost is: Nobody Knows anybody, the first impressions always will be wrong. The bad guy today may be the hero tomorrow.
Why wish the death of a character that can become something interesting in the main story, like Sawyer did? If Sawyer die? If he had died in the first season, just because the majority hated him cause he´s a prick, we could feel the loss of all the contribution he gave to the main story.
That´s what i´m talking about.
It´s ok to hate some character, but all this for nothing? It just smelled a little prejudice, like the other comments about Carmen Miranda and etc.
But if you all say so, that´s ok.
Just to make it Clear, I´M NOT BRAZILIAN.

I blame TPTB for this one. There are a ton of actual redshirts that we do know that could have filled these roles but they weren't used. I for one am more than a little upset over this, but that's not Rodrigo's fault so I don't fault him for it.
