Does anybody see similarities to the 70's TV series "THE FANTASTIC JOURNEY?"

Holy smoke!
I haven't thought about that show in ages!
Yeah ... in a sense you're right.

Connections:

1. Survivors lost on a mysterious island.

2. Island is populated by animals, plants, and people that normally do not exist together (ie. polar bear).

If I am correct we will start seeing evidence of time travel.

Do a google search of "The Fantastic Journey" and read about the first episode and you will see what I am talking about.

FV also reminiscent of "Quantum Leap" and "Sliders".

I loved that series, Fantastic Journey, and I thought Jared Martin was a HUNK!

When I came up with the quantum sinkhole theory, I was thinking of Fantastic Journey. In that series, I think it was some kind of vortex (could be a.k.a. wormhole, portal, etc.)
in the Bermuda Triangle that grabbed up people and animals from all times and places and deposited them on this island.

I don't remember if the vortex/portal in Fantastic Journey was a naturally occurring phenomena or an alien artifact or something from another time/dimension. Does anybody else remember?

I am sticking with the idea that what deposited the survivors on the island is something similar but is a naturally occurring phenomenon like the Oklo Fossil Reactors. It's some kind of warping of space/time that is the result of quantum mechanics/gravitational forces/Earth's magnetic field/super-strings or somesuch esoteric physics (i.e., pseudo-science).

I just hope that at some point we come across a character who is a scientist who is able to come up with a better and more well-thought explanation than the ones that they used to throw around on Star Trek - I got really tired of hearing the phrases "random quantum fluctuations". "space anomaly", "chronoton particle emissions", etc. If a sci-fi TV show is going to use physics, please let it at least be somewhat more informative regarding what is an extremely fascinating subject.

I personally like the idea that my quantum sinkhole is a naturally occurring phenomenon that orbits the Sun and intersects the Earth only at certain intervals and that the intervals are not always consistent. They may be as short as sixteen years or as long as several thousand years, depending on other forces like other gravitational bodies in the solar system (asteroids, comets), the Earth's magnetic fields (would the reversal of Earth's magnetic poles have any effects), etc.

Hawkmistress, you're a person after my own heart regarding Treknobabble. It got so bad after awhile you could see it coming from a mile away...:\

It's been awhile since I saw "Fantastic Journey" but if I remember correctly the vortex/portal was a naturally occurring one that would intermittently open when the conditions were right...

I think I recall seeing that in reruns somewhere a while back. Isn't that the series where the father of the boy in the group eventually decides to just go off on his own leaving his kid behind with a bunch of people he didn't even know before travelling with them?
