Yep, mods... seperate from the Baseball Thread... for now at least. Much appreciated.


So, who's in for some Fantasy Baseball in a LOST-TV Yahoo league? The official league registration signups, from what I recall, usually start early/mid February for Yahoo, so I figured I'd start signups for the league in here for now. We'll do a maximum of 12 managers per league, but if we need to, we'll create extra leagues. The style will be head-to-head, and the rest of the league settings will be decided at a later date.

Sooo.... start signing up! Tentative rosters posted under the Head to Head Rules.


Head-to-Head League

In a Head-to-Head League, your team will square off in a weekly matchup against another manager's team to see who can compile the best stats across a number of different categories.
A new weekly matchup begins every Monday and will consist of a set number of games based on your league's statistical categories. Each stat category counts as one game, with the win going to the team that finishes the week with the highest total in that category (the cumulative total after each Sunday's games).

So, if in a given week, your team hits more home runs than your opponent's, you would be credited with a victory. However, if your opponent's team ended the week with more saves than your team, you would be charged with a loss. If the two teams end up tied in a given category, each will receive credit for a tied game.

This weekly win-loss total will be added to a cumulative season record, which will be used to determine standings and playoff seedings. These standings will be based on your team's overall winning percentage, which is calculated by taking your win total and adding 1/2 of your tie total and dividing the sum by the total number of games your team has played.
Head-to-head scoring is available in both Public and Custom Leagues. All Public Leagues use the same default settings, while Custom League commissioners will be able to specify a number of settings, including roster size and stat categories.

I'm with you! I'm on the north coast, right under Lake Erie. Usually by this time I've had to use a couple of sick days and a couple of vacation days to avoid driving to work through blizzards. (I have an unnaturally long drive to work.) But this year, we've barely been below freezing, let alone having snow piled up outside. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, but my daughter does want to build a snowman!

Well, all those dollar numbers will only help you buy telling you who is better than the others. The higher the amount, the better they are. Yahoo is not a salary cap league; just a head-to-head, points only, or rotisserie league. The one we are doing is head-to-head, meaning:

And Ducky - you can pre-rank your players ahead of time, too. So when you aren't at the draft, it will automatically draft according to YOUR rankings instead of Yahoo's. You should be able to access this at the league's homepage (http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/losttvpirates) and toward the top where it says "league notes," there should be a few blue links. One of them says "rank your players." BUT FIRST YOU NEED TO REGISTERRRRR! :)

No, I understand baseball and I love to watch games.

But the fantasy baseball gets very involved. Much more so than fantasy football, for an example. And with 162? games, there's way more to think about and organize, I guess. But if I was more of a fan, I could see myself enjoying setting up my roster and stuff.

I'd join but I'm swamped just trying to keep my brain wrapped around the fantasy soccer league I'm in with Mav and KoS Roger the Shrubber...and the fact that I'm actually holding my own in an English league against those two is saying something, plus the fact that the random 20 person head-to-head you automatically get shoved into when you sign up on that site's fantasy soccer, the one I'm in is 13 English, 4 Irish, 2 Scots and me and I'm in 8th place, and I bet they are all wondering just who that Yank is. But it's a 9 month season that wraps in May and then I'll be done with fantasy leagues for a while, thank you very much....to much work for my brain keeping track of all the stats needed to be a good fantasy team manager.

You picked Bedard??? I'm sorry. We're gonna have at least 4 starters with better years than him. And yes, I am aware that it's only a five-man rotation. If you want a Mariners left-handed starter go for Ryan Rowland-Smith. You aren't going to get a 20 game winner, probably not even a 10-game winner, but you'll do better than Bedard.

Clement is slated to start the year in Tacoma. Kenji had an off year last year, BA down to .227 from his ML average of .272 and only 7 dingers, he had averaged 16 the previous 2 seasons.

Hence being out of the top 10. Plenty of young catchers will be up sooner or later (Wieters, BAL). Teams like to send them to AAA to lessen their arbitration time, anyway.

I predict Varitek will be better this year. That's not much of a stretch, I know, but he tends to be an "every other year" guy, and had a decent spring. He's not top 10 either, I know. I should send shouts to the M's for that little deal that got us 'Tek and DLowe for Heathcliff Slocumb. Kharma payback for Bagwell, Brady Anderson and Schilling for Bodicker, Sparky Lyle, Babe Rufe, et. al.

Of course, especially in deep leagues. I just love when, during the first month of the season, some players drop proven pros in order to grab the April wonder, who ends up either in Triple A or in a platoon by May. "So they toss it and leave it, and I pull up quick to retrieve it."

Schafer may be a nice add, not in our league, for reasons I posted there tonight.

So, this is the first time I've ever played under this scoring system and I'm wondering how anyone can make any moves in the standings? It seems that the teams that had the hottest players to start the season went straight up to the top (as they should) and the teams with the slow starting rosters were on the opposite end. But now that the initial smoke has cleared, it seems that no one can gain ground. No matter how good a player does for a team one day, if other players go 0 for 4, it seems to negate that. One day a team can gain 6 points, the next day lose those 6.

I'm just wondering why there's so many ways to get negative points as there is positive ones? I've always played that your team gained points for the things they achieved on the field, and not so much as lost points as well. Just seems that everyone is floating right where they've been for the last week or so.
