There's no individual thread for Rose with the other characters, and no rose in Episode Six.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I really like her character and think there's got to be a lot more going on with her.

i'm with brad on this one, i know she is currently only listed as a guest star but there's too many odd things about her (husbands ring etc. etc.) for her too just go away. I'm pretty confident we'll be seeing more of rose as time goes on.

......and so it goes....
We have seen this ploy lots of time: a character makes it according to fan population. She is an unlikely actress to have that type of fandom...but she has succeeded in making us all care about her...wonder..and want more from her. Let's hear it for Rose!!

I love Rose. She is as intriguing to me as any of the regulars.

I like Rose. I think she's going to be the mother/grandmother figure to the group. Maybe Jack will use her as a sounding board....although, I'm not sure why he didn't go to her in last night's show to run the idea of going to the water source by her. hhhhmmmm....

I don't know...I've got the feeling she might not be around much longer. She is a guest star after all...

Her husband was supposed to be sitting in the same section as everyone else. I'd bet cash money he shows up at some point in the show unharmed.

well the obvious thing, since it's widely known that "the stand" is an influence on this show, would be for her to become sort of like mother...uh...shoot, i cant remember what the character is in "the stand"...and yes, i say that because mother...whatever...was the old black lady, who imparted wisdom and people looked to for answers and as a sort of calming effect. for some reason i could see rose becoming an homage to...uh...mother wiseoldlady from "the stand" for the obvious physical reasons.

I do not think she will die, she provides the interesting perspective of some one who lost some one on the lane but has hope that they will return. I think alot of people would like her to die, to settle the death quota this show seems to have. That way if Rose dies, then a main character, like Jack, Shannon, Sawyer, etc. will not.

I think Rose was on tonight's episode of ER. I was flipping channels and I swear that it was her. I think she was a Dr. in the Neonatal ICU.

Jekelish - you are thinking of Mother Abigail.

CCC - In the Ain't It Cool News interview with Damon Lindelof the writer says he's a huge fan of The Stand, and elements of it are present in Lost. That doesn't say much really, since the whole apocalyptic good v. evil thing is pretty broad, and I didn't read his comments to mean it will mirror The Stand. The fact that he's such a fan is interesting though.

I don't find Rose particularly interesting. I didn't miss her in the last episode as much as I missed Boone, Shannon and Claire.

Also, I for one think having a "death quota" is absurd since it ruins any potential for surprise when a main character actually dies. It's fine knowing that anyone could die, but knowing someone will die defeats the purpose.

I see your point, but how much do we know? someone = singular....

Mithril- I think that you are seeing right now the elements of the stand with everyone splitting into 2 camps. But the producers were smart to not make it a black and white choice, this time it is between people who still primarily want to get off of the island and those who want to be comforatable while they are there. My theory is that people with no desire to leave are rewarded and people who are actively trying to leave are attacked. I think eventually you will see that people who are content to stay have to deal with significant negative consequences at all though they may not realize it. Then there will be a "matrix-like" struggle between the people who understand what is going on and still will do anything to leave and people who are just content to stay on the island.

I see Rose a potential godmother figure for Walt, especially if they off Michael.

I've liked Rose from the start. In fact, my profile skin (http://p073.ezboard.com/umaisterpup.showPublicProfile?language=EN) is dedicated to her. Check it out!

I disagree with an earlier poster that she'll become a mother figure who will impart wisdom and calmness. At least, I really hope they don't do that with Rose; it's such a cliche for older black female roles, and I think Rose is more interesting and complex than that. In her beach scene with Jack, she wasn't preoccupied with reassuring him - thank goodness! - but with coming to terms, in her own mind and heart, with the loss of her husband. (Or not, as the case may be.)

I see Rose as the Bereaved Person, the one survivor (so far) who has lost someone else as a direct result of the plane crash. Jack has lost someone, too, but of course that was prior to the crash. It's interesting, and (I think) significant, that only Jack could bring himself to speak to the near-catatonic Rose, despite his discomfort in approaching her... probably because he, too, has recently joined the invisible community of the bereaved, and may know better than the others just how agonizing that is.

Anyway, I hope they use this character (and actress) more in the upcoming episodes, and will be sorely disappointed if they kill her off.

Actually, I don't think she'd be just a godmother figure, MaisterPup, but as long as she's there I'm going to worry for Michael's future. Unless Jin goes I don't think Sun would be able to take care of Walt, since Jin is such a control freak. Rose had a nice mystical quality like Claire and Locke which I hope they play on.
