Boone is dead, no doubt about it; but IMHO whether or not he will be returning to the show in one way, shape, or form remains to be seen. There are plenty of rumors that he will be back for flasbacks, but I'm thinking that they intend to for him to be back for more than that. I'm probably just jumping to conclusions, but there is a website where Ian answers questions every week sent in by fans and on June 10 he claimed that he will be doing guest appearances with the cast of Lost in the future. Here is the actual question from iansomerhalder.net/FridayFive/F52005.htm (http://iansomerhalder.net/FridayFive/F52005.htm):
Do you ever travel around the country and make scheduled appearances for your fans? If so, have you, or are you planning on coming to Dallas so I could see you?
Ian: I will be doing it with LOST. Most the cast of LOST of are. Yes, I look forward to it.
Now why would he waste his time traveling around to promote a show that he's been killed off on if he will only be returning for a few brief appearances in flashbacks? It seems that he wouldn't have the time (or desire) to do that...unless...Hmmm...
