View Full Version : Lifeguard
The preview for this week says that Boone gets caught in a treacherous riptide. I guess in a riptide, it doesn't matter if you're a lifeguard or not.
Plus I don't think he's too good of a lifeguard as he wasn't giving Rose correct CPR in the first episode.

I wouldn't be surprised if he were a lifeguard at a country club pool. Or a kiddie pool.

It wouldn't surprise me if he bought his life guard certificate, or his parents did... He hasn't really excelled at anything on the island, well except being pretty ;)

Boone is an idiot, so far the only time he has been any good at anything is giving his sister reality checks. Apparently he did not mention to anyone he was going to attempt to save the woman, just took of on his own and failed. Then the sheer balls to yell and Jack and say he was fine, when Jack had to bring his stupid butt back up to the surface. And what was his justification for taking the water?

If Boone ever worked as a lifeguard, I agree with Xander. I was a beach lifeguard for years, and it's not possible for a comepetant guard to not only fail to get to the victim, but almost drown himself in the process. So there was a rip tide, that's not a catastrophe for a lifeguard.
At first I thought Jack could have left him and gone for the girl once Boone was up and talking, but I watched the scene again and Boone almost slipped under while Jack was contemplating the same thing. He can scream on the beach all he wants, but he was NOT "fine".
The victim was a scuba diver. She may not be as familiar with shore currents and know how to escape the rip, but I'm surprised she wasn't a strong enough swimmer to at least stay afloat once the rip dropped her. She probably panicked, which is a huge factor in most fatal drownings.

Hi,
I'm not sure if this has been discussed in another topic.. but, what if Boone wasn't even a Lifeguard, and just used it as a cover up? Although, he wouldn't really have much of a reason too.
I'm curious to learn more about he & Shannon's past though.
Take Care and God Bless,

I believe Boone was at least certified, even if it was ages ago and he never really worked as one. It would be very sick if he were running around trying to do CPR and hurling himself into riptides if he truly had no clue what he was doing.

Then he's either very sick or very incompetent. Stupidly, amazingly, devoid-of-common-sense, incompetent. Stay on the beach Boone. Everyone's safer that way.
I can't wait for his backstory episode.

am i the only one here who has taken the lifeguarding class? It is very easy to get a CPR certification wihtout a clue what you're doing. I did it several times... if you mess up on the test the instructor tells you what you did wrong and then has you try again immediately!!
Also, there are two different types of lifeguard - beach and pool - with different types of certification. If Boone has his pool lifeguarding he might still not realize what's going on with the riptide and get caught up in it by surprise.
There is no mystery here.

for what it's worth, I have a friend who's a certified beach lifeguard who almost drowned last summer in a riptide. It can happen, especially if Boone was trying to prove his worth by trying to rescue her alone, or something equally foolish but expected.
