MyMedia-Forum Rules and Guidelines

Welcome to MyMedia-Forum. Glad you could join us! Please read the complete Rules and Guideline before heading to the many boards and forums. It contains vital information that’ll make your stay an enjoyable one. These Rules and Guidelines pertain to all the boards and forums, as well as our chat room area.

Lost-TV opened its doors in March 2004, an entire six months before the LOST series premier aired on September 22, 2004. It is now one of the largest fan sites on the Internet, honoring what has become a cultural phenomenon. MyMedia-Forum is an expansion upon the original LostTV-Forum site.

Community

We are a community! Many of us are friends and have known each other for a long time. You will notice this immediately. We also are, for the most part, a friendly bunch and will embrace you into the community. But certain behaviors are not appropriate and you will be expected to follow some basic guidelines to ensure you acceptance here.

We are TV-14 same as the show in regards to language. Although we encourage you to be yourselves, your posts should not contain language unsuitable for airing on network television in the U.S. The best way to determine if the content is TV-14 is if it can be said or depicted on primetime network television; if not, then don’t post it.

Using asterisks and/or any other code to "disguise" your wording will not be tolerated. If we can determine the intent or the word being referenced, that portion of your post will be deleted.

Usage of more provacative words from the series will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the context in which the words are employed. Also, keep sexual innuendo to a minimum.
We are a multi-cultural board. You will be expected to be tolerant of another’s social and/or religious beliefs. They are expected to grant you the same respect. If the idea of someone’s sexual orientation not being the same as yours bothers you, keep it to yourself.

Tone does not always come across well on the ‘Net, so jokes and sarcasm may not be received as intended. So watch how you come across in your posts. Emoticons are your friends.
We are a multi-age board. There are minors here and adults will be expected to act like adults towards them. Your handle (name) is exactly that. It is not your real name, your address, or your contact information. You cannot be stalked if someone doesn’t know this information. Stalking occurs in real life, not on the ‘Net.

We are very touchy about age inappropriate contact between posters on and off the board. Very touchy! Hence, be forewarned that if we see that starting to happen, you'll be banned from the boards.
Clones are not allowed! Nobody likes being played for a fool. If for some reason you want to change your username, contact (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showgroups.php) a Mod, SuperMod, or Admin. With a membership growing daily, things will get testy from time to time. Feel free to contact (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showgroups.php) a Mod, SuperMod, or Admin if you feel another member has wronged you. This is in regards to posts, chats, or private messages (PMs). But make sure and have documentation, not just a “he was mean to me in chat”, or “this post is a personal attack”. Copy/paste the chat, or else cite the thread in which you feel you were not treated equitable. Be prepared to have the Mod sit you and your adversary down for a chit chat about the incident (cyberspace).

Avatars and Sigs. Avatars are limited in size to 100h x 100w pixels. The total sum of all images in a signature must not exceed 150h x 600w pixels @ 600KB. Please also keep any text in your signature to a minimum (which means an additional line or two if you have an image, or a maximum of six lines in normal size if it's a purely text signature). Failure to comply with this rule will result in being unable to have an avatar and/or signature. We have a section in our Help Desk (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=786) forum that will help you with uploading avatars and sigs.Posting

Copyrighted Material. The content of this forum belongs to www.losttv-forum.com (http://www.losttv-forum.com) and www.mymedia-forum.com (http://www.mymedia-forum.com). No material may be reposted elsewhere either in print, the 'Net, or any other media format without the express permission of the Forum Owner or the Administrators. This means, in essence, that all posts become the property of www.losttv-forum.com (http://www.losttv-forum.com), www.mymedia-forum.com (http://www.mymedia-forum.com), the owner, and administrators. The idea might be yours, but by using our software and server space, you have granted us ownership rights to the current format of that material. Material that is hosted on our server, while it might have originated elsewhere, can be duplicated using your own efforts and must not be lifted from this forum, as the coding has become the property of the forum. You must obtain the permission of the transcriber/creator AND the Forum Owner and the Administrators. If your post/thread gets merged and/or moved:

It’s a duplicate. Duplicates make life tough on everyone. When we notice a duplicate thread, it will be merged into an existing one. To prevent this from happening to you, follow these guidelines:

a) Glance at the first several pages of threads in that forum and see if anything looks similar. If it does, read through it and post your idea there.

b) Do a quick search to see if your topic is being discussed elsewhere. Be as specific as possible in your search. If you find a thread, read through it and post your idea there. The search is not always successful or as thorough as we would like, but we still recommend it as a starting place.

c) Label your idea with a clear title. Please don’t call it “I have a theory” or “I think I know” or “Read this!” It will be easier for posters and moderators if we can tell what your idea is from the title alone. We will still give it a quick glance to see what’s on your mind and will make our judgment then.
It’s just a casual thought. Please be sure your idea is actually worth discussing and not just a thought that popped into your head that is best forgotten. If you think it’s just a thought with merit, but not a valid topic for intense discussion, please visit the appropriate Episode Discussion thread. Thoughts and enthusiasm are great and welcome, but they don’t always deserve their own thread.
It’s in the wrong place. We have forums based on different criteria and try to keep it as organized as possible for all the posters. A major breakthrough about the story arc, theme/tone or scientific/literary theory that can be expanded upon should be posted in Lost Theories (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12); an exciting idea about a particular topic should go in General Discussion (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=6); a discussion about a specific character would go in the appropriate character forum under Cast and Character Discussion (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=16); anything gleaned from a webmaze source goes into the Webmaze (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=71) forum or TLE Theories (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=72); a spoiler (information about the story that has not aired) goes into the Spoilers (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=13) forum.Any questions regarding any of the above can be directed toward a Mod, SuperMod, or Admin and we will be happy to point you in the right direction.

If you have any doubt about the placement and/or history of your idea, starting a thread in Guys, Where are we? (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=4) and What I think is going on... (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=5) is your best bet. Those two forums have minimal moderation regarding placement and/or topic (spoilers are an exception).

If your post/thread gets closed:

We try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt when it comes to intent and/or mood. If your thread has been closed, a personal judgment has been made. Here are some of the reasons a thread could be closed:

A Moderator assumed you were a Spammer. We don’t appreciate spamming here and will delete and/or close as soon as noticed.
Your post is unusually volatile and/or offensive. Certain topics are just not acceptable here. We don’t mean to be capricious. We could possibly make a list of these topics, but it could never be all-inclusive. We use our own judgment and often discuss these issues before a decision is made, but occasionally a decision must be made quickly (you have the right to appeal). If your post has been found to be inflammatory to a specific group, specific poster or is otherwise of an offensive nature you run the risk of having your post deleted and/or risking your membership here at the board. We want everyone to have fun but not at the expense of others. There are ways for members to help us monitor disturbing situations and “report bad post” can be used for such an incident.

If we delete your post/thread, you have the right to appeal to any Admin on the board. But you probably already know the reason it was deleted. Don’t try it again; you are risking your membership. If your post/thread contains Webmaze information:

WMT/TLE tags are no longer necessary for TLE-based theories. These threads should be started in TLE-Theories (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=72) forum and can be totally tag-free.
Posts in Lost Theories (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12) forum can have TLE information providing they are appropriately tagged, however, if these threads get too bogged down with TLE information, they will be appropriately moderated to get the thread back on track.

For more information regarding this subject please read the guidelines in the Lost Theories (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12) forums. If your post contains information not previously broadcast on the show or an aired preview but includes details relating to a future broadcast or plotline:

Click the link for detailed Spoiler Guidelines (http://losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39561).
Any theories that are sparked by a spoiler must be labeled as such. ST (Spoiler Theory) should be placed in the title of your thread. If the information is contained within a post, it should be wrapped in a spoiler tag.If you have any questions, feel free to ask (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showgroups.php) any of the Mods, SuperMods, or Admins. Write us a note and we’ll respond as soon as we can.

Privacy:

When it comes to discussion about the actors, there is a line between PERSONAL and PRIVATE. Because this can be a very grey area with no way to truly define what topics fall under personal vs. private, we reserve the right to close/delete any topic we feel crosses that line. No gossip allowed!

Netspeak:

No. No, no, no. I repeat, no. It’s annoying, and it created the impression that you’re very young or possibly even half-witted. You could be Einstein for all we know, and have the most brilliant idea/theory/observation since the beginning of time. That is completely negated by the use of netspeak. We recommend using a spell checker.

Chat room Specific Guidelines:

On new TV episode nights, the current episode (while it's airing) is only discussed in the associated East Coast Live sub room until it has aired on the West Coast. Please apply this same manner of thinking to other forms of media, such as movies and books.

There are no spoilers allowed in the Main chat room, and this includes web game related materials. Never ever.

Issues/Disputes:

If you have an issue with another member, please contact (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showgroups.php) a staff member by PM. If the member is a moderator, please PM the mod in question first, and if you still can't work it out, contact another mod by PM. There is no need to involve the entire board in any dispute. Before contacting us, please take a moment to review. Was it completely unsolicited, or are you at fault as well by contributing to the issue? We also request some sort of back up (ex. copy of a post or chat room transcript) in regards to your claim.

Needless to say, but disrespecting a moderator or an administrator will lead to serious consequences.

Banning:

Even if we list all the things that will get you banned, the bottom line is that you already know the answer. Persistent violation of the guidelines, rudeness, foul language, personal attacks, harassment, stalking will get you banned.

We encourage you to follow these guidelines. You will feel less frustration and have a far better time. Read everything you can get your hands on and put your ideas out there for others to read.

Also, make sure after reading the complete Rules and Guidelines, that you head over to the New Member Welcome and Introduction (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25440) thread. Read the first post and then introduce yourself.

Have fun! :)
