I read somewhere that the first season of Lost will cover a 40-day period of time. I don't know if this was already posted, but I think that's a significant number:

The Bible is clear that God considers 40 days to be a spiritually significant time period. Whenever God wanted to prepare someone for his purposes, he took 40 days:

· Noah's life was transformed by 40 days of rain.

· Moses was transformed by 40 days on Mount Sinai .

· The spies were transformed by 40 days in the Promised Land.

· David was transformed by Goliath's 40-day challenge.

· Elijah was transformed when God gave him 40 days of strength from a single meal.

· The entire city of Nineveh was transformed when God gave them 40 days to change.

· Jesus was empowered by 40 days in the wilderness.

· The disciples were transformed by 40 days with Jesus after his resurrection.

I haven't yet been able to figure out what impact, if any, this has on the survivors. Maybe it's all some sort of test, and Locke is the Guardian Angel.

Yes it has been posted many times. Check some of the older threads. It was one of the topics discussed before and just after the show started. :D

In the recent NPR interview with JJ Abrams, he claims the pilot took exactly 40 days to film (cue Twilight Zone theme)

Guys, search for older threads on this in the General Discussion forum - lots of interesting tangents and possible reasons for the time frame.

Don't forget that the human gestation period is approx. 40 weeks, and that Claire (?) looks to be about 40 days from giving birth.

40 is significant. And the it seems that each of the 40 has something to do with starting anew, starting fresh....
