View Full Version : Ben caught telling the truth (seriously)
After the latest episode, I am starting to believe that maybe, just maybe, Ben tells the truth once every so often.
I am reminded of Locke's conversation with Ben when Ben was locked in the armory. Ben stated to Locke that he "had come here to get you [Locke]". After Ben-related revelations this year, such as his cancer, I am positive that Ben really did go to Camp Lostalot to try and convince Locke to come with him. He knows Locke has been healed by the island and therefore wants to see what else is 'special' about Locke.
Anyone agree?
Also, has anyone else caught Ben telling the truth? :D
Im pretty sure he wasnt lying about the giant hamsters running in giant wheels for the others electricity.
Ben frequently tells the truth, and he always keeps his word. That's very important to him.
To Jack: "I will let your friends go, after you leave the island."
To Hurley: "We're taking them (Kate, Jack, and Sawyer) home with us."
To Kate: "The next two weeks will not be comfortable for you."
Of course, the easiest way to misdirect is to tell just a little bit of the truth.

He even said to Jack. "I will let your friends go as soon as you leave this island." Even though he knew Locke was going to blow up the sub. Crafty little bastad.

Also, has anyone else caught Ben telling the truth? :DI'm convinced Ben went to the Swan to get a feel for Jack. Remember, he'd just found out he's got a tumor on his spine, and a spinal surgeon just fell out of the sky.
Ben tells the truth, but not the whole truth. As someone has mentioned, he was glad to promise Jack he'd let Kate and Sayid go once Jack left the island. Because, he knew Locke was going to blow up the sub. He even mentions this to Locke. Paraphrasing. 'I had to let Jack and Juliet go, because I promised them. Plus, if I didn't, I couldn't hold onto the other "Others". And here you come John to save the day.'

I was ruminating this very same scene and formulating the same theory last night. I think Ben's mission was two-fold when he was "captured" by the losties. He needed Jack's surgical skills, but I believe he also wanted to know about Locke's healing abilities so he could apply it to himself.
When I first viewed that scene, I thought Ben was telling Locked what he wanted to hear, after this last episode, I think there was truth to statement--of course, of a purely selfish reason on Ben's part.

Ben is also capable of lying, ie. when he called himself Henry Gale and told that whole story about the hot air balloon. It seems like he just wants to get "in" with the Losties...at first he tried to allign with them as a survivor of a "crash" like them (but his was a hot air balloon), and now it seems he is trying to prove to them he is a man of his word... In reality, I think he is only a man of his word around his people, like he said..so he doesn't lose control over them.
I resent that statement, Ben telling the truth, where do these crazy ideas come from? :nanabobo:
