All the previous funerals held for the deceased Losties showed the bodies wrapped in blankets/fabric. When they buried Nikki and Paulo, they were uncovered. I realise that we needed to see Nikki's eyes open at the point of her being covered with sand (for dramatic effect), but it did seem out of character for the Losties to treat these two people with less dignity than the other people who have died.

Just a thought.

Maybe they ran out of blankets, I mean where do they get all these tarps/jars/bottles?

Considering they have limited resources, it doesn't make sense to waste them on the dead. The bugs are going to eat them no matter what they do and the living need the blankets or tarps.

They wanted to get those two schlep rocks in the ground ASAP. They should have ripped out the Pearl toilet and buried it next to Paolo or maybe used it as the head stone.

I think they just wanted to get them planted before they woke up and it was to late.

It was very strange funeral. We had Hurley go from a CSI character to a minister. Nikki and Paulo were lying on blankets and before Vincent dragged them away, were covered up. Why didn't they just wrap them up? Is it so that they can 'escape'?

Doubt it. If Vincent dragged the tarp away, they probably just didn't try and get another one. I really don't think it means anything.

I like that visual of a toliet as a headstone. I wonder what the inscription should say? Perhaps--

"Here lies Pooplo, Lover to Nikki, Friend to, ahh... somebody. His hair was admired by many. Drop a Duece O'king of the porcelain throne, RIP."

All I can say is that the last place I would bury anyone on an island is on the sandy beach. Yet, all burials seem to have occurred there. Go inland where the soil is less likely to reposition. Locke even made mention of that to Paolo when he tried to bury the diamonds in the sand. Guess he did not take his own advice when burying N/P.

I either expect comments about the stink, or the zombie's to show up any time now.

Now this makes more sense than anything else I've heard on the subject!

The other bodies may have evidence of their demise, gun shot wounds, etc that would make them unsavory viewing for the masses. Nicky and Paolo would not have been decomposing as they still may have been technically alive (almost dead) and had no signs of damage from brutal bludgening, drowning etc and thus could be uncovered.

Plus, who cares about them? Characters have to return to watching JKS love action and to see which of the other secondary characters will disappear for about five or six episodes.:)

Was it foreshadowing?

Nikki tells the director that she should stay "dead" because that is what guest stars are for. (paraphrase)

On the flip side Locke tells Paulo that nothing stays buried for long.
