View Full Version : How/Why Walt Appears....

We have seen that Walt has some limited ability to warp reality with his thoughts (e.g. the backgammon game, the bird, the polar bears -- and didn't he once throw something with impossible accuracy?)

Perhaps, wherever he's being held captive, he learned about something very important (perhaps "the button" -- see the "backward MP3" thread here) and began to wish, in the worst way, that he could warn someone in the group that stayed behind.

The result; he manifested a brief image of himself in front of Shannon, with which attempted to warn her. At the moment he was "transmitting", he was perhaps whispering to avoid drawing the attention of his captors.

Alas, the words were garbled, and Shannon heard only "indistinct whispering" as the captions said...

Walt appearing might be a manifestation of Walt's powers... or Shannon's.

Actually, I think Walt was trying to contact Vincent and maybe because Shannon was taking care of Vincent, she heard him.

I truly believe that Vincent will open up a lot of the mysteries, after all he runs around everywhere on the island and has probably seen everything!

Wasnt Vincent pointing right at where Walt appeared.

What if Vincent projected the vision of Walt?

It sounded as if he were a drowning victim. Listen to him and it sounds as if his lungs are filled with water.

I've seen no such thing. Read about Walt's powers (http://p073.ezboard.com/flosttheunofficalforumfortheabcseriesfrm29.showMes sage?topicID=1325.topic) here.

First of all, I listened to what Walt said backwards a few times, and all I could make out was something like "where's the button, don't ..blah blah" Yeah I guess no one has figured out exactly what he said. Any ideas?

Second, I happen to believe that seeing Walt was not her imagination or an hallucination. My guesses are that the "Others" that kidnapped him, brought him back to the island. Although, he probably doesn't remember much. Just like when Claire got kidnapped and they erased everything that had happened since the crash. Only in Walt's case, he is much more intuitive and his mind works much differently than Claire's does. Of course, that does not explain why he disappeared so fast. ....Ok I can't back that one up. Just forget everything I just said. maybe he was her mind playing tricks on her, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that Vincent "projected" him. I'm sorry, but when you said that, all I could think of was R2 D2 projecting Princess Lea. Pretty silly if you ask me.

Though, someone brought up the point that it maybe Vincent who is, in fact, the one with the "special powers". Now that he is left with Shannon, all of the sudden she is seeing things. Eh, I don't know. I just want to see what happens. I can't stand the suspense!

This link is from the oceanicflight815 board.
It's what Walt was saying, forwards and reversed, slowed down so we can hear it.

Listen here! (http://www.gloaming.us/gloaming/uploads/Walt_backwards_clean_and_slow.mp3)

Sounds like:
"[Don't] Press the button, the button's bad."
"[Don't] Press the button, when no one is there."
"[Don't] Press the button, when no one is there."

Some say that in the earlier scene, in which Shannon is searching for Vincent (the dog), you can hear him call her name. Listen to that one here. (http://_lost.visaliarealestate.org/whispers.mp3)

Speaking of the other board. How exactly do you get on it? Do you have to register to get there or what?

Yeah, thanks, but I knew HOW to get there. I just can't post on it. Everytime I try to, it says I am not authorized. I even registered. Didn't work. Am I the only one that is having that problem?

My apologies. I was not trying to hijack the thread. Please just go on talking about the subject at hand.

Okay, so if Desmond is this mastermind illusionist and uses smoke (monster mapanguari) and mirrors (his hatch surveillance system)... and he also projected the soaking wet Walt...

If you recall, Shannon fell down or something grabbed her and it centered her on a certain spot that allowed us to see a 360º camera pan. Is that what triggered the 'illusion'? Can anyone identify the spot? Or is it just a random place in the jungle. My reasoning is simply that the 'security system' has to have triggers. Or I could be wrong.

I just watched it, and I heard someone whispering "Sayid" over and over again just like she was yelling it.

The button = the "execute button" on the computer; Locke also tells Jack not to push it.

IF Walt has powers, I don't think he's "aware" of them yet. Not enough to conciously send a message to Shannon and/or anyone else. Perhaps it was subconscious, or even manipulated by The Others.

I'm hearing two things:
"Press the button... The button's bad."

"Press the button. The button's past"

All I can think of is the "execute" button, of course.

Walt could have used his powers to kill his captors, or have them eaten by a shark, and maybe he was able to ride the shark to safety. Or Walt could be dead and could be exerting his image on the island!!!

It sounded like walt said after many times I played it backwards that walt said
Press the buttons no buttons bad.
