I'm a very longtime lurker...
I did a search and didn't come up with any other posts like this.
Remember the Biosphere/bio-dome projects where scientists would cut themselves off from the rest of the world and try and live in a completely sealed, self sustaining, habitat. They would grow their own food, make their own oxygen, and not leave for long lengths of time. Many characteristics of the hatch and the rooms below lead me to think this could be some sort of similar experiment or program. Hey, it also has a large dome shaped room. Plus the fact that much of the equipment was very old leads me to think that this has been sealed for a long time.
