View Full Version : Super Strength?

I know we know that Ethan had Super Strength. Now, what about that serum providing that? I really like the regenerative theory, but I also think we cannot ignore the fact Ethan had Super Strength; the theory that Ethan is/was Desmond's roommate is too good to ignore that fact.

Also, just thought of this: if it's a regenerative serum, wouldn't Ethan then be able to regenerate or in other words, prevent death?

who said he had "super stregnth" ?

He looked like he was strong, but anything more than just strong?

he seemed to be really strong the first time around, but jack beat the shite out of him in round 2. i just think it was to make ethan seem stranger.

I agree Ethan was unusually strong. The difference the second time around with Jack et al is they had started to become stronger themselves. Have any of you seen the film Soldier starring Kurt Russell? All about super soldiers whose strength and endurance is enhanced through mental programming. I think the Island has the same effect on their minds...

I'm not sure about the "super strength" issue. When I see Charlie jack up Eko one handed then I'll believe!

I think Ethan's just really strong, and Jack was completely unprepared for Ethan being that good at fighting. The second time around, Jack knew what he was up against so he was more prepared. Fighting is just as mental (if not more mental) than phyiscal.

hmmm it is complicated i suppose. But perhaps ethans supply of serum was running out round two and he would get more from the others if he brought back claire's baby? its jst a theory please comment on it

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I think it is just as simple as the element of surprise. Jack was surprised that Ethan attacked him the first time, and then surprised that he was strong. Second time around, Jack knew what he was dealing with.

More weird to me is how this thread went unnoticed for nine months...that's weird.

i don't know about 'superstrength' but, if you recall...fhenry choked the s**t out of anal and he was on a hungerstrike, she also kneeded him in the nads and he didn't flinch...(remember anal was a cop, she should have been able to handle a weakened, restrained man)

I'm not saying I disagree/agree but...something else to ponder:)

Then again, a hit from Locke's crutch stopped. I think the Others have been trained to fight and be tough, even the old man Zeke could wrestle the rifle out of Michael's arms.

Ethan had been away from the camp for a while when jack gave him a good shoeing. Perhaps he hadnt had his injection for so long that the strength powers had worn off. Maybe the injection serum antidote whatever it is makes the taker immortal.
Iv seen Zeke have a gun fired at him three times now and he never flinched once, as if he knew the bullets couldnt harm him.

I think there is something to the super strength thing.I am not certain if it is maybe part of the the sickness of the siland that infects you over time as you stay there or if it comes from the antidote some are taking or maybe something else.

and crabby talking about Zeke not flinching when underfire. I also think there is some sort of strange luck or fate or what ever you want to call it that keeps these people alive even under very adverse circumstances.
1) When Fenry had a gun aimed at him by Sayid and he was going to kill him.Fenry had a horrified look on his face protesting that he was a "good person" as if it was not allowed to kill him in his mind.
2) In season 1 when they went to get the battery from Danielle and Hurley got stuck on the mine they told him not to move but Hurley insisted that he was spry and just ran off of it fully believing no harm would come to him
3) Locke was kept from harm not only from the monster but also from the falling plane and maybe even the incident in the hatch at the end of season 2
I think there is something there but I am not certain as to why some die and some seem to not

The only example of anything strong that i can recall was maybe when Ethan was taking Clair and Charlie and lynched up Charlie... but look at charlie. he was a hobbit for heavens sake..lol

I think this is another fine example of lost being a hollywood production... If Ethan would have like picked something up that was heavy.. it might give us a reason to believe he was strong...

anyone got a clip of that??

Ethan was definitely super-strength-ish at first, no doubt about it. And let's not even bring up his magical boomerang. I don't think they really knew where to go with that. Or maybe Ethan just forgot to employ his magical abilities when he allowed himself to be taken by the hobbit.

If the serum is a super strength formula, then I can't wait to see whether Claire grows a beard or a goatee. :) The island keeps some people alive, maybe. Need we go over the list again of everyone who have met their maker on this island? This island is not an equal opportunity saver, which means either the island has nothing to do about it or the island is some sort of consciousness controlling who lives and dies.

Just to build on this thought a bit further, here's a telling quote from a website on Project Monarch (http://www.aches-mc.org/monarch.html):
ALPHA. Regarded as “general” or regular programming within the base control personality; characterized by extremely pronounced memory retention, along with substantially increased physical strength and visual acuity. Alpha programming is accomplished through deliberately subdividing the victims personality which, in essence, causes a left brain-right brain division, allowing for a programmed union of L and R through neuron pathway stimulation.

they disscused this on the speical fetarues of the season one dvd set. they talked about how in the second fight jack had more emotion behind it because of what ethan did to all of them, jjack was also more prepread for ethans fighting skills

I think he had some kind of abnormal level of strength because it takes a lot to lift someone up by there neck with one hand.

On the other hand people are able to do stuff like that with 6 months of weight training and physical exercise
