Fellow LOSTaholics,

If I am committed, blame it on LOST and please stay in touch. Here is something that made my head go places it was unfamiliar with.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptomnesia

Please help me unwrinkle this in my brain.

Oh, this is relating to Desmond's experiences and the question of time lines and strange energies surrounding the island. Chris

I don't think the link you posted has anything at all to do with alternate time lines or realities, or strange energies. If you think it does, you should pull out something specific to highlight.

Cryptomnesia

That's quite a word... :)

Don't think it has anything to do with Lost. But I watched a friend paint a painting from scratch, no model, photos, nothing. It took her about a month to complete.

Several months later I was in a bookstore and just by chance, pulled out an art book of a very obscure Austrian artist. I pulled the book because the art style on the cover looked familar. I turned a few pages saw the exact painting as my friend's, with very minor differences. Same media, colors, blends, details and even size of canvas.

This artist did his work about 30 years prior to my friend and she had absolutely no knowledge of his work. So I believe Cryptomnesia really exists.

Isn't cryptomnesia the fear of cryptonite? The thing that kills superman?

That's kryptophobia.
I though Cryptophilia is the love of puzzles.

This has happened to me. In grad school, I painted a portrait of my black and white cat, standing next to a vase of flowers. Took two months to paint it, lived with it hanging up on my wall for six months.

I went back to my parents' home and by chance, spied the first oil painting I had ever done, as a child of ten. It was of my black and white cat, Ignat, next to a vase of flowers. Freaked me out.
