Hi there - i'm a newbie - UK fan who has torrented each episode so far, so i guess i'll always be a few days behind you guys! Needless to say, i love the show, else i wouldnt be here!

Anyway, I've got two points in particular which I'd like to raise, and I'd be interested to see what you guys think..

Oh, and I'm not going to suggest any actual theories here - i think every rational possibility has already been analysed... which reminds me - apologies if this has already been mentioned..

1) Reading around the theory board, there seems a strong general consensus that the beasts are borne out of the islanders' imagination.. of course, this may be wrong, as we're all guessing in the dark. Anyway, reading this instantly made me think of Forbidden Planet ( www.imdb.com/title/tt0049223/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049223/) ) and the ominous line from that - "Monsters From the ID!"

Of course, any self respecting Sci-fi buff will tell you that Forbidden Planet was loosely based on Shakespeare's The Tempest ( www.awerty.com/tempest2.html (http://www.awerty.com/tempest2.html) )

What is the Tempest about? hmm . . . . a group of individuals are shipwrecked and washed up on a deserted island which contains secret, magical powers.

Does that sound familiar to anyone? Now, I'm no shakespearean scholar or anything, so maybe this doesnt bear deeper contemplation, but maybe, just maybe, it might help to look to the classics to see what JJ's up to...

Right, point number 2) - irrespective of how many passengers have survived / who is from where etc etc, I'd like to raise a question about the structure of the show as a TV creation. What intruiges us all, and the reason most of us are here is the mystery of the show - it's like a giant jigsaw puzzle where we're only rationed a few pieces each week, whilst trying to guess what the picture on the box is actually of . . . . TV producers in general try and create formats or programming which is going to run and run for years - X files was 10 years old I think, Buffy ran for 7 etc etc. So, what im trying to say is this - do you think the mystery of what / where / how the island is will EVER be answered, or do you think it'll be a very long tease that never quite gets properly answered for 7/10/ however many years? Just intruiged to see where people see it going . . . .

Ta!
