I got the feeling that if Mikhail was supposed to meet her then he let her get entrenched because that's what they want, spies with the Lostaways.

My thought was that the Others learned of the helicopter crash the same way the Losties did. They heard it and saw a flashing red light in the sky.

Mikhail may have been heading in that direction to investigate the crash, and then been nearby when the signal flare went up.

I didn't see anything that suggested that Mikhail was supposed to meet up with the parachute girl. It hasn't been ruled out yet, either... she may be working with the Others, but my read of the situation so far is that the parachutist is not working for the others; Mikhail was just sent out (like Ethan and Goodwin) to check for survivors, and the Losties beat him to the scene because of Des's super powers.

I got the same feeling Notsam. He may've been on his way to meet up with Ben and the other "Others". Saw the signal flare and decided to investigate.

But also like Notsam, I'm not going to rule anything out. Lets not forget, the "Others" have lost communications with the outside world. This girl may've been sent to find out why "they" haven't heard from the island in a couple of weeks. Also, she spoke Russian which is Mikhail's language of choice.

Patchy Mik defintely reacted to the flare Hurley fired (by accident?) and came running like his life depended on it. I don't buy that the Others know about the parachutist as they have given no previous indication that they even know of Desmond's existence (unless Ben et al. have been looking in on him from the Pearl). The fact that she carries a Portugese copy of Catch-22 with his picture in it (not the book necessarily, the photo) leads me to believe it is a legit rescue attempt by Pen Widmore. That she says "There are others with me" and that Patch-Man lies about the translation doesn't sway me. He's ex-Red Army and an Island veteran so he's savvy enough to know that's key information he should keep to himself. Still, he was thinking this was someone worth waiting for when he saw the flare....

Where did you get that translation of what she actually said?
