I can't believe no one has made a thread about this yet!

Didn't you just love it when Jin managed to do a round-a-house kick on Mickail :boxing:

Either Jin has somehow obtained hightened reflexes and fighting skills from the island like the Others, or we see him learning martial arts in a future flashback. (haha, future-flashback)

With his gradually increasing english vocabulary, scary stories and fighting skills, I'm starting to like Jin more and more every week!

Nice screenshot. Takes back to playing Mortal Kombat at the arcade 15 years ago. I started a similar thread, but it got closed. I also wondered where he learned that roundhouse. It implies he had some specific martial training, and for quite a while. I hope there will be an associated flashback, but I doubt it.

This is a screenshot from DOC. Inside Jin's father's house. One the wall with all the memorabilia of his son was a martial arts trophey.

It's unkown when Jin got this trophey, but he certainly was good enough at martial arts to win awards befre coming t the island. That said, I think it will play out that the increased health the island provides also increases strength and dexterity.

The main reason I'm not surprised about Jin's martial arts expertise is that he's one of a mobster's muscle men. Anyone doing that kind of job would have to be a good fighter. Another reason would be his military experience.

Almost all Korean boys learn Tae-Kwon-Do in Korea at school. Its a form of excercise and also learning about discipline.

If Jin grew up in South Korea and was athletic he would know how to do a roundhouse kick which is a basic move in Tae-Kwon-Do. :D

I thought Jin was a humourous lame-o character up till this, now he's awesome! He's up there with Oldboy and Mr Vengence now....

Exactly I didn't like him until the last episode. Somthing tells me that they're just building up his character so he can be fish bait later....:0

Nah, he's too cool now, he's so much cooler than Jack.

Jin would all *pins down Jack and shoves his foot in his face* SNIFF IT JACK!
And Jack would be all *crying*

Oh man, I was going to pull the razzle dazzle joke... you beat me to it.

And Jin is becoming a better and better character. I dig him. But, although I like him now more, what ever happened to Jin- I'm the guy that controls my wife and watches her every move? I mean, I know he got nicer about it, but shes pregnant and he has just been in the jungle with the guys the whole entire time, not worrying about her at all.

How did Jin's pants not rip, they're not exactly the most comfortable looking things now are they?

Woulda been a mighty good place to rip XD

Wow, people really didin't care for Jin before? Of the original crew, he's easily the second most interesting character, after Locke. Few of the characters have evolved as much as he has, both in character and in our perception of him.

here is the proof that jin does know martial arts!
on the table of this screenshot in jin's dad house, there is what appears to be a tae-kwon-do trophy. whether it is jin's or his dad's it explains his martial arts backround

I think Jin became dark/brooding/wife controlling when he became one of Paik's murderous cronies and comes to terms with this once on the island. Plus on the island, the fisherman is king! No class struggles to deal with, no fisherman dad and mother of ill repute to deal with. He can just be round house kick butt Jin!

Because he's not Jackie Chan. Jackie's pants would have ripped.

By the bye. That was not a round house kick. It was a spinning hook kick. Round house kicks are performed by kicking at an angle with the rear leg (when in standard tkd fighting form) such that the upper foot and shin are directed towards the opponents ribs, hips, legs, or head.

and yes, knowing tkd in South Korea is about as remarkable seeing a box of cheerios in a safeway grocery store ailse... everyone knows some tkd in korea. as a korean american who lived on and off in korea i can attest to this. i can even pull off a few of these things myself.

Also, the korean army teaches all of their recruits hap ki do or tae kwon do, so Jin would have been well versed from there.

I was just waiting for this scene to happen. When i saw him chaising patchy, i thought... "damn, jin's gonna school this boy". but when they started fighting in standard western fashion, i thought "wtf? jin would have at least known how to do a proper kick from just having been a boy in korea in the 80s!"...

Then i felt relieved when he ripped that spinning hook kick on patches ass. damn. that was awesome.

don't mess with a korean meng. they will grab the nearest object and use it as a weapon. there is none of this "shoving" back and forth before starting the fight. In korea, when a start fights, it's immediate blows and kicks. then followed by whatever makeshift weapons you can find (bottles, chairs, rocks). Koreans are hearty folks. after living through the korean war and japanese occupation before that, they have a high threshold for pain...
