He's always been sort of distant, but on last weeks episode, dude didn't smile once. He kind of had this, "Okay, I'm tired of everybody's crap" attitude. I loved it when Kate came to the caves and said, "We have a problem." And Jack goes, "WE have a problem or YOU have a problem?" I appreciate that he's no longer letting Kate pull her stuff. No more Mr. Nice Doctor Guy. lol.

Oh yes!! There was a significant, if not extravagant, change in Jack. It is to be expected some kind of further transformation in the man, after the existential crisis he’s been going through even before getting to the island. I think he will probably be sourer, sometimes more severe, but STRONGER.
I hope the writers don’t go too far and make him uncaring or heartless, though. That wouldn’t make sense, since his inner core is essentially kind and fair, and he has a conscience. He is also predominantly reasonable, in spite of having been too emotional in some of the heavy situations he has face (the kidnapping, the inhalers episode, the hunting hallucinations triggered by previously dealing with the dead unfit father ,…). I hope he grows for the better!!!

Let me begin by saying that I like Jack.
In fact, I've argued in his defense in several threads, 'till I ended blue in the face [metaphorically, I rarely get blue in the face. Red is more my color. And green - the envy and all that].
Er... where was I?
Jack, right.
Well, even liking Jack a lot - like I do - I have been unable to ignore the inconsistencies between his words and his behaviour. First he tells Kate 'I am not a murderer' and a little later he finishes off the Marshal. [Yes, I know there's some controversy on this, but I believe he 'did the deed' after Sawyer botched his own attempt at mercy killing.] Later, he says to Kate (who else, right?) 'We are not savages' and wouldn't you know it? A tad later he's right there while Saeed tortures Sawyer.
Notice, however, that I do not consider these inconsistencies as 'out of character' but more as a clue to Jack's character. a partial one, to be sure, but there just the same.

Well, green and red, nothing wrong with these colours!! Me, I prefer to turn a little yellow, when shocked or ridiculously scandalized”, some red when embarrassed, and I’ve told about PURPLE when really, really embarrassed … I think it’s a lie … all lies …
Anyway, You’re absolutely right, these actions may be conflicting and troubling, especially when confronted with what he says.
But, in my book, it is precisely these actions the ones that have established that even if Jack is not perfect and that he has a struggling inner-self, at the same time, he thinks and feels that he has to do the right thing at the end.
He opted to finally kill the Marshal, but only after an intense process, and only because he concluded that it was the best thing to do for him (the Marshal). Even if he thought and said, BEFORE being in the situation, that he would never do something like that. And he didn’t feel good about himself and about what he did, but he did it anyway; that is gutsy, even if deemed wrong (me, I couldn’t have done it, but I confess it’s because I wouldn’t have the courage). I don’t think he will never be sure if he did the right thing or not, but he chose to live with it.
Regarding the torture. The man was anguished and anxious seeing the girl struggling for her life, the girl could die right there, the clock was ticking. You could see that in his face. And the thought of somebody being able to stop it and do nothing about it for absolutely no reason, added all this anger to his distress. So, it is absolutely wrong the torturing, but the circumstances and feelings leading him to it where enormous and pressing. Yes, I also thought “hmmm .. it’s Sawyer, he doesn’t like him, and he is also interested in Kate”, but then I realized that none of it mattered, he just WANTED the inhalers.
That is why I empathize with him, even if his actions can be so questionable sometimes.

“hmmm .. it’s Sawyer, he doesn’t like him, and he is also interested in Kate”
I realize that I am going to be the only one here that thinks this, but I doubt Jack is fond of Kate. To me, he doesn't seem at all interested in her. Which brings me to my next point. Something I fear in the future is that there is going to be too many "relationships" formed and that is NOT why I tune into Lost every Wednesday. Afterall, it is not a soap opera. I know some of the castaways will start forming relationships, but Claire and Charlie would have been fine.

I'm a big fan of Kate's, and just as big a fan of Jack, but I'm liking the idea that Jack is no longer enamored with her. Lyric Girl, you picked the exact moment I felt that change take place. But yet he went out and confronted Sawyer anyway. I'm going to assume it was because of the guns she said were in the briefcase, not because she batted those big beautiful eyes.
