Anyone catch Jack's last name?

I find it interesting that Jack... the now almost official leader of the group has the last name of Shepard. Or perhaps spelled Shepherd.

Is this some not so subtle clue?

shepherd - definition - one who cares for and guides a group of people.

Hmmm. Any thoughts?
