View Full Version : Jacob a Genie?
I was wondering if it could be, that Jacob is a genie. Maybe it is so, there have been a few clues. The comments of a snowman in a glass dome, the whole open the box and whatever you want you can have. And of course, the fact he seems invisible to most.
And last but not least, he needs help. Which sort of fits most of the classic Genie tales.

I'll buy that!
So if I have this right, then the Island itself is the bottle.
Ship in a bottle, another clue?
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Genie is the English term for the Arabic جن (jinn). In pre-Islamic Arabian mythology and in Islam, a jinni (also "djinni" or "djini") is a member of the jinn (or "djinn"), a race of supernatural creatures. The word "jinn" literally means anything which has the connotation of concealment, invisibility, seclusion and remoteness. In English, it is sometimes mistakenly translated as Ghost.

Jinn
Jin
Is it a coincidence that one character is named Jin?
IMO Jacob in not a ghost or jinn.

I have a half-baked theory that I call I Dream of Jeannie Theory of Lost. I'm not sure I've ever posted it before, but if you ever watched the show, Roger would rub the bottle, and smoke would come out of it and then Jeannie would appear. That's what smokey is (the transition from the bottle to a person), and that's pretty much the entire theory. I totally think the OP is onto something.
Good work so far, I think there are a number of things that sort of hint towards a Genie story, we have...
Smoke, often associated with a Genie.
Jin, Which is close to the Arabic Jinn, which means Genie.
Wishes Granted.
Trapped.
A snowman in a glass dome, like a Genie in a bottle.
A ship in the middle of the island, how did it get there, just like a ship in a bottle.
Jacob can perform miracles (like curing cancer) yet seems trapped and needs help from a normal person.
He is invisible to most.

Now something that runs along with most Genie stories is the classic tale of being careful what you wish for. Or at least how you wish for it.
Now imagine a man, who lost his mother at his birth. Stupidly wishing...
"I wish I had a mother just like everyone else's mother on the island".
"OK" says the Genie, "it is done".
And from that moment on, every other mother on the Island becomes just like Ben's mother. They die during child birth.
PS if this is the answer do I win a prize like on set for a day lol.

I'm just linking this thread in for informational purposes
Qaf, Land of the Jinns (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7819)
The three classes of Djinn are:
Ghul, mishchievous shape-shifting spirits associated with graveyards. "Ghul" is the origin of the English word "ghoul."
Sila, Djinn who can appear in any form
Ifrit, evil spirits.
In Middle Eastern magical practice, Djinn are invoked much like the spirits of the Goetia in Western magick.
The word "genie" is a corruption of Djinn. Both 'Djinn' and 'Genius' probably share a common root. Djinn are said to avoid salt and steel, and to be afraid of the sound of singing
There are five main tribes of Djinn, oftentimes confused with each other. (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=724752&postcount=37)

Well the smoke certainly did not like the sonic fence. And was that a trail of iron fillings around his house?

I think that was volcanic ash. (just my opinion)
djinn are also said to be made from "fireless smoke".
So far I have got to...
Jacob is a Genie (leader of Genie's actually) Ben wished he wanted a mother like everyone else's on the island, Jacob granted the wish in true "be careful what you wish for" style and made it so all mothers suffer the same fate as his own mother, thus making Ben's mother = Everyones mother.
Exactly why he is trapped while the other genies are allowed to go around the island i do not know, but they can not get to Jacob and he can not get out. He is trapped by metal fillings of some sort and they can not cross them.
Likewise with the sound wall. The clue here is we know Juliet was acting her whole way through the Kate kidnap episode. But as she is working with the Genie's (hostiles, original others, Richard n Co.) it made for a cracking show for Kate when she saw one of them crash against the wall of sound, thinking Juliet had saved her.
Now for Locke vs Ben, why won't the Genies help Ben defeat Locke?
My guess is there is a legend which states that a person who has killed his father can rescue Jacob. They thought is was Ben, but now they have doubts and think he is a fraud. He most probably is. Jacob seems to want Locke's help not Ben's.
Now for a long line of events...
Ben wished for his mother to be equal to all the others on the island, and accidentally forced mothers to die, just like his.
Ben wanted to cure the problem of mothers dying on the island, So he bought in Juliet.
Juliet would not work for Ben anymore, so he made a deal to ask Jacob to remove her sisters cancer.
Juliet's sister was saved, but the cancer was given to Ben.
Ben wished for his cancer to be removed, and in doing so Ben wished for the plane to crash, with Jack on it, but accidentally bought Locke too.

not fireless smoke--- smokeless fire. meaning a fire that doesn't have smoke.
