The oil lamp that Benny brought in, is what caused the fire to start in JACOBS Den.
But when Benny came out he hung the oil lamp back up and no fire was ever spoke of.
Any thoughts on this?
the edit was really strange during that moment. it showed lockes face within the flames, then it cut to a different shot of locke and the flames were gone.

We saw Locke's face through the flames, not in the flames. And then, yes, there was a cut from the same angle without fire. Very strange.
thats what i meant about lockes face. he of course was not on fire.

My husband said he thinks the whole Smokey thing is going to be Old Testament God-like scenerio where you can't look directly on the face of God & hear God's words, only a special few can. Is Jacobs house the Holy of Holies? or a dark version of?
Also, clearly Jacob isn't a Luddite since although he freaked out at Locke's flashlight, he didn't freak out at Ben's lantern, so perhaps this is the tie-in with the electricity/electro-magnetic issues...thus Smokie

I found this explanation by Geoffrey Arnold in another thread in GD
Here is the reason for the ash circle.
The ash circle is to signify that the volcano is still active, even though it hasn’t erupted in many years. I also think it explains “Jacob”. In ancient Delphi, the priest use to speak to the Oracle. The Oracle had a temple where the priest would visit when the city was in danger. But the scientific explanation was that there was methane gas being expelled from a fault in the earth, and that’s where the temple was built. Therefore, the priest were actually inhaling this odorless, colorless gas that was making them hallucinate.
The same thing is going on with Jacob. There is a gas from the volcano which is making Ben and Locke hallucinate and experience different things. When all of the crazy stuff started happening in the shack; it was all imagined because of the gas. Notice that the lamp hit the ground and started burning the shack, but nothing ever really burned. It was all part of Locke’s hallucination because of the gas from the volcano.

Not sure yet if i concur, I like the idea of it being more on the spiritual or parallel planes type theories... but that's just my personal choice...However it is an explanation and a good one at that....

Yep, but Volcanic is Deadly to the Human remember.

This bothers me so much!!
One second it looks like the whole place is about to go up in flames and the next second they are like, "Well that was fun, let's be off now.."
what the hell? :hmm:

I know me to, an assumption tells me it was imaginative sequence, and very intuitive.

Honestly I didn’t plan it that way at all. (SORRY)
I just love to think and your responses help define it even better and I hope I do the same for everyone else and maybe we can figure some scenes out.

It was all part of the ruse.

It has to be a ruse. I mean, remember, the Others had costumes and makeup to fool the Losties at first...why would this be any different??
