Not necessarily correct, just the superficial.
Ben was only making a big deal about Locke because the other others knew he was important.
Ben used to see Jacob but doesnt anymore.
Ben knows hes there, possibly even has him trapped there.
Ben was only pretending to converse with him.
Ben didnt want the flashlight on so Jacob would not notice Locke.
Basically Ben is the high priest who has long sense lost his link to go but is pretending otherwise and now Locke has shown up who seems to have the link so Ben wants him destroyed.

When Ben went to the door he said "I'm with John Locke; we're coming in," and was also looking right at Locke when asking "Don't you see him?" I'm pretty sure Jake knew Locke was there.

Ben stages an act to fool Locke into believing he is not the “man behind the curtain”. Ben takes Locke to a remote location surrounded by a strange mixture of chemical minerals in the earth. It may be clever ventriloquism but Locke falls for it. But Locke also may be the only person threatening enough to Ben to put his leadership position with the Others in peril.
5. Ben has been speaking with a forked tongue. He has told the Others that the people who should be amassed into the Others from the beach come from “Jacob’s List”. But Ben told Goodwin and Ethan to get lists from the beach survivors from the oceanic flight. So Ben has been “declaiming” for Jacob but with his own spin.

That would seem to go against him asking Locke what was said as he leaves him for dead.
Add to that the screen captures I think we can dismiss that idea.

But Locke didn't fall for it. He told Ben that it was BEN who said "help me". Locke still didn't believe even afterwards. That's why Ben shot Locke because either Ben is telling the truth & is jealous of Locke's ability to hear something Jacob said that ONLY Locke heard...OR...it is all fake & Ben didn't want Locke going back to the Others & telling them it is fake

But, we've all seen the screen caps (and if you haven't, there's one in the "Anyone Else SEE Jacob" thread). They wouldn't have put a micro second flash of someone sitting in Jacob's chair if there really is no Jacob. Ben shot Locke because he knows that Locke is more powerful than he is, and the other Others are starting to ignore Ben and be awed by Locke.

I think Ben is definetly controlling Jacob somehow. He was much too aggressive with him, and it can't help feeling like he was relishing the fact that Locke couldn't see Jacob. I think Ben paniced when he realised that Locke could indeed hear Jacob. If Ben is controlling Jacob somehow, it would make sense for Jacob to ask Locke for help. Also when Ben realised that Locke could hear Jacob, he realised that Jacob could tell Locke how Ben had been controlling him. Thats why Ben shot Locke...plus he looked especially fearful when he realised Jacob had said help me.
