Jacob is from the pirate ship located on the island. His dress points to it, his lack of trust for new (if you consider flashlights a new thing) technology, etc. Jacob is the oldest inhibitant of the island and is one of the ship's survivors. He is not the only one though. Only the special few can see him and some can hear him, just like the voices we've heard here and there throughout the show. There are others like Jacob. He seems to the the "father" though. The non-dharma people on the island (and we now know that the others are non-dharma as all dharma members except Ben were killed) are 2 groups, one being the island's original inhibitants and the other being those they brought in. The first group is immortal and that is why you see people not aging.

I agree, and check around other posts, I have seen a TON of people who think just as we do.

ha ha ha - LOL - genius!!
That pretty much sums up what i think of this theory.

Sorry, but I just don't subscribe to the 'Jacob is a pirate' theory. It's just too far fetched. Anyway, if Jacob's still alive as you claim, why didn't we see him sitting in the chair the whole time?

Right I know I am new here; my previous lost forum didn't want to load on Firefox

So anyway.
I don't know where I have heard this, maybe on the ARG but Magnus Hanso, was definitely part of the black rock slave ship. I hope someone can back me up here. So anyway Jacob was in pirate clothes so to speak and so is part of the Black rock which is the obvious link. After all how else would a pirate ship end up in the jungle; Jacob has powers as seen in the cabin.

Furthermore, I believe that Jacob isn't locke, but perhaps a decendant of him hence the similarities in the face. Maybe this is why there is confusion with John lockes parents... immaculatly conception? As most people know Hanso is a very significant part to the lost plot line and perhaps runs parellel to an other main part; john locke. This might be why he asked locke for help; he can trust him. I also believe Jacob is crucial to the island powers so this is why Locke is so special and can heal.

Well let me know what you think.

EDIT

Read all about the black rock slave ship here:)

Magnus Hanso was captain of the Black Rock, per TLE.

And I agree with you daveee1.

Locke = Hanso descendent.

this is probably the best theory that i've heard so far.... and can possibly be linked to mine... that locke and jacob are twins or related somehow.
