I took a screencap as a jpeg image, then placed text over it in Adobe Acrobat (hoping to use it as a banner). But when I save as a jpeg, the text disappears. Anybody know why? Thanks.

Um...don't use Adobe Acrobat would be the first thing I would suggest. Adobe Acrobat is a PDF Reader/Writer (depending on what you have) and really isn't intended for creating images.

There may be a way to do it, but I don't know why you would or would want to. Better tools exist, like Adobe Photoshop (no intention of be facicious...I realize it is an expensive example but there is also free and shareware tools available).

Thanks, Budman. I've worked it out in the meantime (ended up doing a print screen from inside Acrobat then cropping that image). It would not be out of the realm of possibility for me to acquire Photoshop. In the meantime, could you recommend a good freeware program (or point me in the right direction)? Otherwise I'll just go browse CNET. Thanks.

The Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) is the best free image editing software package available IMO. Here is the Windows port (http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/) of it.

That's what I use and it's wonderful (and free). I was going to suggest it last night but I couldn't find the Windows link (I'm using a Mac) so, thanks Homer!

like homer said GIMP is amazing. the gimpshop hack is also out, it uses a layout akin to photoshop, so if your used to abode's good but amazingly costly pic manipulator its the way to go.
the site is here (http://gimpshopdotnet.blogspot.com/)

Thanks. I downloaded The Gimp and tried working with it a little, but fear I might be too stupid to get anything out of it. Maybe the hack'll help me out a little. It's been a couple years since I used photoshop, but I remember it being a little more user-friendly than The Gimp seems to be.
