With a high Oxygen content.
There is a theory that before the extinction of the dinosaurs the earths atmospheric pressure was 4 times that of the current atmosphere. It also is assumed that the oxygen content on earth was at aproxiamtely 35% of the total make up of breathable air. These 2 changes in the atmosphere are said to have been the reason for extremely large animals and insects. (ie. Dragonflys w/ a 3 foot wingspan).
Also living in the suggested atmosphere would actually cause a human to grow larger and heal faster (similar to that of a hyperbaric Oxygen chamber).
Is it possible then that the "creature" has lived on the island and the island its self is under a different kind of atmoshperic makeup.
Just a thought?
