Locke on the first episode -- backgammon pieces, light and dark. Was this foreshadowing for us the viewers that eventually the survivors would split into two camps, or did he already know this would happen.
Locke seems to know things that others don't. He knew the dog would respond to the whistle (not all dogs do). He was able to find Jack just before he fell off the cliff. He knew where Charlie's guitar was.
He also survived the encounter with whatever IT is in the jungle.
So, is Locke just really well read and smart, or does he have procognition or something similar that lets him what will happen before it happens?

Oh Locke is a key player to the center of the plot. He just has to be. He's some type of mystic. I definitely think he's figured a thing or two out since arriving on the island IF he has not be there before already!

Locke is a walkabout-type of guy within and finally has a chance to turn it into action. He just knows such things. Well, who doesn't expect camps to be created...but there might be more to it. A greater concept of decision-making.
