That L O S T is an acronym was my first thought when I saw the show's title for the pilot.

The title startled and confused me. Thinking about where I'd seen the letters I realized we'd just had a referendum for a local option sales tax which was referred to as L O S T.

Regardless, I still believe that the title is an acronym which has significant meaning to the show. 8)

SLOTS is a game played in a Casino.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas takes place in a Casino.
Johnny Depp starred in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Johnny Depp will also star in the upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Charlie is also the name of a character in L O S T!
