OK, with that out of the way, we're sure there are going to be some questions, comments, etc about some of the changes coming to LOST-TV Forums. Those questions, etc, should be asked in this thread regardless of which forum the question is about. This will help us be able to answer your questions in a timely manner and also ensure that none are missed.

Due to some unforeseen complications, the initial Phase II launch is taking longer than planned. We'll have things patched up soon, but in the mean time, please excuse the mess.

In this so-called "New Forum," will I still be able to blame TPTP?
There will be some shuffling while we push vB to it's limit, so please be patient. Areas like C&CD are going to be very difficult. We'll get it all worked out, but we have a lot of changes to make.
ETA: Kelly, I doubt anything could stop you from that.

We're not moving anywhere. Basically we'll be changing the way this forum looks (shuffling around, adding forums and sub-forums) but we aren't moving.

Saying they have always done it right is a subjective comment. I don't think they've always done it right, and there have been things that have happened to the board in the past that I have disagreed with...
What I am saying though is that while I disagreed with some decisions, those issues were not big enough to make me upset to any degree. I just dealt with them, as I will anything else that comes up that I might have personally done differently.
I am neither mod, nor admin... so it's really none of my bidness. I did my duty as a mere member and posted my feelings on those changes in the past, and then moved on and dealt with the final decisions. I'm sure the same thing will happen with the upcoming changes. I'll mention a thing or two I would have done differently, but then I will move on to the acceptance phase of my 12 step program.

It looks like the "Other TV" section is being expanded, which is great, because I hope to discuss all the new shows here and not have to go to any other websites. Mainly, because I like the folks here and value their opinions. While you're making changes, can we have a little area for the caption contest ? (both the current and older ones in one place)
It is a subjective comment Warty, but I was speaking in general terms.
Like you I disagree certain things and have been vocal about them, spoilers, over sensitivity about topic discussions, newbie eating and now a new peeve, fanzillas who get angry when you don't like thier honey baby darling sweetie pie and want the Mods to shut don't conversations the moment thier thier love fests are interupted. Unfortunately the moment things shut down in that thread, it'll go back to squeeing, which was thier intention.
So no place is perfect, but youhave to go with the flow, because it's one of the best boards on the net. The reason for that are the people who designed it in the first place and thier determination to keep a high standard.
BTW I don't know them, I've had a chat or two with Suil a long time ago, but it was not personal and I have know idea who Master Xander is or what he's like. I'm familiar enough with a few Mods to tease them, gotten pissed off more than once, so I don't have ties with anyone of administration.
When I say I trust thier abilities and feel they've done an excellent job so far it's not out of personal connections. I'm judging by thier overall track record, skill, effort, and proven ability.
And yeah I know you wern't accusing me of anything, I'm think I know you better tahn that and I understand what you were saying. I'm very much looking forward to whatever changes these people decide to do and can't curb my enthusiasm or trust in thier ability to make this even better.

First let me say, that while I'm not a huge fan of change, I can see that this particular change could be very exciting, and ultimately give all of us a cool new (yet same old) place to hang out.
OK, I have my cheerleading out of the way. :D
Now, what is the motivation for the change? I can see the possibilities for life beyond LOST, but is there more to it?

I hope you're correct. It's not the format of this board, nor any technical bells and whistles that keep me here. It's a core group of people who I really enjoy. I've visited many boards, and I always come back here because often a majority of the people on those other boards....quite frankly.... SUCK. They are often huge message boards with all sorts of neat features and formats, but if the members suck... the members suck. Most everyone at L-TV does not suck, and that's why I can most often be found here.

Life beyond LOST is part of it. The software that the site runs on (vBulletin) changes over time as well giving us the ability to do different things. I don't think there are any changes coming that are going to cause people to stop coming here, nothing that drastic, but they're enough that people are going to notice a difference. :)
ETA - RunLoganRun - I'll keep that idea simmering for the time being. ;)

Personally, I thrive on change and as I have never paid a dime towards the creation of this site I see no cause for me to complain.
Note to Mods: If you are putting in a new 'Lobby' , I love chocolate covered peanuts, cashews, and macadamias -- only fresh macadamias though. In case it happens to come up for some reason.

Woah! I was just very confused when I scrolled down the whole page and didn't see Lostaways :shiny:
I like this set-up a lot better, guys, keep on rockin'.
If we lose anyone along the way, just have them send us a PM. We'll most likely put together a forum map once we're done so people can find all of the older forums but for the time being, just follow the detour signs. :)

Others here have pretty much covered my feelings. I’m cool with it, and I think "shaking things up" a bit is a great idea. The posters are my favorite feature about the forum (the discussions, exchanges of opinion, and just plain silliness in some places). In other words, I’ll still be hanging 'round here regardless of Lost. The overall quality of the board and sense of community are what give this place its appeal.
I don’t know the admins either, but I lurked this forum for years before I began posting, and they (along with the mods) have always been very consistent with these things. They were brilliant when it came to handling the ezboard mishap (not to mention salvaging what they could), and each move has been a smooth transition. (In my opinion, this forum has been more consistent than the show it’s centered around. ;))
I trust the change will work out just fine.

i NEVER used to go into the community section, untill this hiatus, and i am glad i did. in the past, i would just not post during the hiatus (im sure taht made some people happy), but ive stayed active. i look forward to seeing what kind of doors this opens.

I think it would be nice if we could have embedded YouTube videos (or the like) in posts, rather than just link them.

I'm pretty sure that won't be possible. I think it would put too much of a strain on the server. Also, I'm not sure if vBulletin allows for that.

I'm not sure, it may put a strain on the servers but it isn't really any different than retrieving an image.
The client is the one retrieving the video from the service (YouTube), all that vBulletin does is retrieve the image and provide the client with the correct URL to the video and player (MIME) information.

It was a white page with colorful font/print that said something like "Welcome to the NEW LOST-TV Website" but it flashed up and then was gone and replaced by the regular main page :blinkie:

As a new member here, and an old member at one of those other 'sucky Lost boards'... I've got to tell you guys....this place ROCKS...any changes to improve things here would just be icing on the cake...this forum is already the BEST.

I don't think that it's a a matter of navigation or "getting lost" for most. I think it's a matter of size and not being able to keep up with the growth of the damned place. Most will adjust. Some will curl up in a ball in their old spots, and some will leave. It's like going having a childhood haunt torn down in favor of a sprawling MegaMall. Sorry.

I understand your points completely. I'm not here all day either and it comes down simply to time for me as well. That said, I have no intention of visiting every forum, every day. Unless someone is here all day, I don't think it's really possible nor feasible honestly. If they can, more power to 'em. However, by opening up new areas, we're hoping to keep more people here so they don't have to go to another forum to talk about, say, home entertainment equipment (that's just an example). These places are new and because of that they're going to be busy initially. As far as categories go, we're pretty much done with the additions. We may fine tune here and there but that's about it.

We have some painting to do and a little cleanup but the bulk of the re-organizing and adding-on are finished. I have no idea what's going on on Oct 8 and as far as I know these additions/changes to the board aren't on any timeline related to that date. We're doing it as quickly as possible without making people feel overwhelmed.

Having the titles of spoiler threads appear when clicking "new posts" is not new, FYI. I've been using that feature for a long time, and I have a work around. I go to the spoilers forum first and mark that forum read. Then I can browse the new posts without seeing any titles, if I so desire.

Budman, I completely and totally understand why bannings are private, and as I said, I wasn't serious. But, I do always wonder when someone suddenly has that banned notice...
Not only that, if the mods were trying to list every disciplinary infraction they dealt with (God bless them for their work!!), they'd never have time for anything else, and we want them to continue to do the great work they do (and they need to buff up for those nude photos we keep getting promised...:D ).
