Huge hockey fan here.

I have season tickets to our ECHL franchise that plays in my county arena.

I would have season tickets to the Thrashers if I didn't despise driving downtown.

This is all very surprising considering I was born and raised in the south, but it's a fact. Hockey is neck and neck with football for me as a live spectator sport.

The Sabres had a really good season last year. Think they can repeat the feat, LongS?

Go Canucks!!!!!

I dunno if the Sabres are gonna be quite as good this year without Danny Briere (who is now a FLYER :D). ;)

Though the way I'm lookin at this season is, the Flyers season last year was the worst in franchise history, and Peter Forsberg was on the team. They can't possibly do any worse. Well.....okay, they could, but I'm hoping things turn around at least a little. :)

I totally missed the draft and have no clue who the rookies I should be lookin at are. Anyone know who's supposed to be hot this year?

As much as I hate Philly.. It was the old Atlanta Flames versus the Flyers that made such a hockey fan.

Someone took me to a Philly/Flames game back in the 70's, and that game had a bench clearing brawl that left puddles of blood on the ice.

I was hooked at that moment.

The Sabres had a really good season last year. Think they can repeat the feat, LongS?I don't think they'll win the President's trophy again but I do believe they'll be a top contender and may get as deep or deeper in the playoffs.

We'll miss Briere but we'll be fine without him.

The Flyers are going to be a much improved team and a possible playoff contender imo. Martin Biron has weaknesses as a goalie that Philly hasn't seen yet. This is a potential stumbling block.

As much as I hate Philly.. It was the old Atlanta Flames versus the Flyers that made such a hockey fan.

Someone took me to a Philly/Flames game back in the 70's, and that game had a bench clearing brawl that left puddles of blood on the ice.

I was hooked at that moment.Back then every Flyers game was a bloodbath, earning them the well deserved Broad Street Bullies nickname. The http://www.logodesign.com/logo_design/wp-content/Sabres1st.jpg vs. http://www.phillywired.com/system/images/Flyers%20Logo.jpg Stanley Cup Final, aka The Fog Games, are what made me a fan.

I remember that my elementary school replayed the games in the auditorium for us. I wonder if they'd still do that.

I usually get into hockey once baseball is over with. Go Rangers!
Do you wait for hockey to end before getting back into baseball?

Do you wait for hockey to end before getting back into baseball? No. But I do stay into hockey until it's over. Sadly I lose interest if the Rangers aren't contending, but if they're still in it I follow hockey until it's done. I don't get pumped up for the hockey season like I do for baseball though.

Baseball is by far my favorite sport, football is probably number two, and hockey number three. It's hard to say, though, becuase if the Rangers don't suck, I really like watching hockey.

Back when I was in college at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI - played against all the Ivy League schools in the ECAC), a bunch of us would always get season tickets to all the hockey games. Tons of fun.

You went to Rensselaer? Cool beans.

About 10 years ago I saw a car in my neighborhood with a Rensselaer sticker in the back window and had to go find our what and where that was.

Also, Tom Clancy gave the school's hockey team a nod in the book Executive Orders, IIRC.

Have to say I really don't like the Canucks "new" look. They have gone back to the bland medium blue and green of the early look with the C and orca whale logo, same colors (ie. the red removed) on the chest with the word "VANCOUVER" in block letters above it. I'll try and find a picture.

Here it is.

I grew up on hockey, but I don't get to many games anymore...maybe one or two a season.

Now that the DBacks are in the post-season, I won't be watching much hockey until the DBacks win it all or are eliminated. :p

Ditto on the new Uni's they suck....and do the home Jerseys really have to say Vancouver on them? BTW I beleive the "Birthing" or "Breaching" Orca stemmed from the new full ownership..."Orca Bay Sports and Entertainment" no way they were giving up that pub..... even though it is horrendous and ridiculous....I would rather see them in a paper bag....

I went to the Avs - Pens game the other night, my first opportunity to see Crosby in person (I HATE the schedule that only allows us to get to see a few of the east teams). Man, was I impressed, not just by Crosby but by Malkin and the whole team. They're building something amazing there, no doubt about it. If Malkin adds a bit more bulk, he will be an absolute monster.

Members of Elmira team suffer minor injuries in crash

HARBORCREEK, Pa. -- A bus carrying members of a New York minor league hockey team struck the back of a tractor-trailer and went down an embankment, seriously injuring the bus driver and causing minor injuries to several players.

The Elmira Jackals of the ECHL were returning home after a 7-1 loss Wednesday in Cincinnati when the accident happened about 4:15 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 90 about 35 miles from the Ohio border, police said.

The bus driver, 56-year-old Kenneth Nance of Blossburg, was trapped in the wreckage before he was flown to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, police said. Nance was in serious condition in the intensive-care unit, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Nance, who was employed by JGM Coach Co. of Pennsylvania, was in the intensive-care unit, Jackals general manager Robbie Nichols said.

"Some players were tossed and thrown around the bus," Nichols said. "We have some minor injuries. We don't know the extent of the injuries."

No players were hospitalized. The team sent a bus to pick them up.

Elmira is the affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets.

In the NHL play-offs is when the keepers step up. Having a great keeper will get you deep into the field. Anyway, the way things are going, the NW Division is so tight at the top the Canucks could easily go either way, win the division or miss the play-offs, I think it's a bit premature to start talking post season.

Wasn't there some Rangers honcho back in the late '90s who refered to the Devils as a "Mickey Mouse organization"? Not to be throwing fuel on an old fire, but when the Devils won Lord Stanley's Cup it seemed to me to be some vindication for the team.

It was Wayne Gretzky when he was a young un for the Oilers. He said:
Speaking of the New Jersey Devils after his Oilers beat them 13-4, Gretzky said: "It's disappointing. These guys better get their acts together. They had better start getting better personnel and start putting them on ice. It's ruining hockey. They are putting a Mickey Mouse operation on ice.
That was November 19, 1983, our 2nd season, and we stunk and I mean stunk. We started that season 2-18. I was at that game. A lot has changed. The Devs are, 4 trip, 3-Time Stanley Cup Champions and have made the playoffs 11 consecutive seasons. On January 14, 1984 a bunch of us went to Montreal and saw the Devs win 3-2 then took a bus home to watch us play the Oilers the following day. The arena was full of Mickey Mouse stuff. We battled back from a 5-2 deficit to 5-4. Was a great weekend. Now who has the Mickey Mouse club? ;)

Well it comes down to this.
My Flyers are this close to NOT making the playoffs.
They're in now, but if Washington wins tomorrow, they're OUT until they win again (and hope Washington doesnt win their last 2 games). Though we have the final say - The Caps play tomorrow and Sat., The Flyers play on Fri. and Sun.

Washington gets to play Tampa Bay (the worst team this year) and Florida, who is not making the playoffs.
The Flyers have to play Jersey and Pittsburgh, BOTH high ranking playoff teams.

The Caps have 2 gimme games if they keep playing the way they've been playin.
The Flyers are gonna have to bust some serious ass to earn that final playoff spot.

And IMO, a PHI (8) v PIT (1) first round matchup would be INSANE.
Especially after the ferociousness of tonights game (even though the Flyers lost).

If I know my Flyers, they're gonna be out for blood this weekend, so lookout. That means you, Devils and Pens.
Here it comes.

I've been one since I moved to Colorado, mainly just to piss people off :) I don't think they can do it this year, but I'm routing for them none the less. We'll see how they do tonight.

I almost got beat up at a bar just for chearing for the Wings. They weren't even playing the Avs at the time. People in this town are way too serious some times.

They have a great team, all around good players. They just don't seem to be able to put it all together sometimes. We'll see though.

Well, to be fair, I was a Red Wings fan in the late 1980s because my girlfriend at the time was from Detriot and was an avid fan. Then I moved to CO and no one even cared about hockey at all. I used to have to ask bartenders to put hockey games on. Then the Avs came and I rooted for both teams but when they played each other I routed for the wings. Then, even after the 1997 brawl I kept routing for both but keep the wings on top. It pisses off a lot of people, but I'm ok with a little controversy :)

The avs/wild game was good last night. Forsberg's goal was great. The Wild got lucky with that last shot is all.

Ah, you're totally right about Denver, before the Avs came, I *vaguely* remember going to a Rockies (now Devils) game back in the seventies as a kid; otherwise, it wasn't even on my radar until the Avs came. hockey has come a long way here.... the youth and rec programs have exploded.

Great game, Minnesota showed a lot of heart, they had a lot of bounces that should've gone their way, so the OT winner was deserved. Another game that could've gone either way.

I was hoping Nashville was going to give Detroit at least a bit of a run, but it's looking like the Wings will move in without much trouble. They might be in for a rude awakening when one of the rally battle tested teams from one of the other 3 series meats up with them.

I'd like to see the Caps rebound against Philly, Ovechkin is just amazing, and seeing him move on would be great. Got a bad feeling his goaltending is going to keep letting him down tho.

And how is the Rangers are just *owning* NJ this season, crazy.

His time will come. But it ain't this year.
Huet isnt bad, but against the team in the NHL with the most 20+ goal scorers, its not gonna be easy.

We showed we can handle Ovechkin. It was a sloppy turnover that screwed us. They showed they had depth besides AO. Like I said, its gonna be an exciting series. :D

I am happy for the Stars...I just loathe the Quackers. Truffula...AO cannot win games alone...he is but one player...the Flyers have to remember to shadow him and I mean shadow...we will see what happens in Game 2. I have realized that I broke my tradition of watching the Devs games live...today I am going to my Godson's 18th birthday get-together...I will not watch the game...I will record it and depending on the outcome I will either watch it or toss the DVD.

jd21 The Devils have no big time players other than Brodeur or Elias...over the recent years we lost Gomez that rat fink, Stevens and Daneko retired...Nieds went to the Quackers and left a lot of fans with a great deal of bitterness as to how he left. The one I miss most is Rafalski who is now a Wing. See the way the draft goes, the worst teams get the best picks with which to develop high talent and the best teams get the bottom of the barrel. Our team in Lowell has no major talent...nothing has been developed much and the 2 contracts of Malacoughupthepuck and Mogilny really was a big time boo boo for Lou. We are re-tooling and this just may not be our year. As for the Rags well when any team plays against a goalie who has pads with 747 wings between his legs it takes away the entire bottom half of the net...Giggy has the same kind of pads...tall as the limit and wider that the Lincoln Tunnel...when they decide to rework the goalie rules, GM's like Clarke should not be allowed to get rules that are aimed at 1 goalie hence the Brodeur rule which resulted in the usage of that damn trapazoid...btw...Marty reminds me currently of the Met's pitcher Tom Seaver...play a near perfect game and have an offense that cannot score if their lives depended on it...anyway I still believe...as Yogi would say it ain't over till it is over :)

Figured with that Habs score. MTL is gonna win that series.
Aw hell, my picks -
MTL, PIT, NYR (sorry, Dew), PHI
DET, DAL, CGY, COL

And if I was forced to pick right now, I would say DET v PIT in the finals with PIT walkin away with the cup. As much as I want my FLYERS to win it all, the Pens are stacked mile high, and Crosby and Malkin are unstoppable (unlike Ovechkin, who we have proved STOPPABLE).

Yep, you pictured me right too. :D I jumped so high I hit the ceiling and I yelled very very loud. ;)

I admit though, I am concerned about the injury to Kimmo Timonen. He was the guy we put out there to make AO's life miserable. He hit the back of the net very hard. All I heard was "upper body injury" and he wasn't returning to the game tonight.
Though with the unbelievably speedy returns of Hatcher (broken leg) and Thoresen (hit in the crotch with slapshot so hard it broke his protective cup!!).....you never know.

Holmgren and Stevens are hopeful that Timonen will not be out for an extended period of time.

“I briefly talked to [Flyers trainer] Jimmy [McCrossin], and he is hopeful for Thursday. I don’t think it is going to be too long. At least we hope not.”

Avery is a disgrace to the game of hockey imnsho. Praying you play the Flyers next round :pray:Avery gets on everyone's nerves, no doubt. He's a classic instigator. If he's on your team and you're winning you love it. But he doesn't play the game dirty.

And when he reached out to shake Marty's hand, Marty snubbed him. Brodeur is as bad, if not worse than Avery. He takes cheap shots at anyone near the crease and gets away with it, and acts as though he's been shot whenever a player makes contact with him to try and draw penalties.

And I'm always careful with my karma, but the Rangers played very well against the Flyers all season (something like 5-1-2). There's no team in the East that scares me.

I would never ever ever want Avery on my team...he was run out of the western conference....the LA fans rejoiced when he left...btw..he does play dirty...he is classless imo.

Would you shake someone's hand who ragged on your personal life thru a series...would you shake the hand of a player who besmirched your ability...a toad who has won nothing in his life...players have not shaken hands before and will again...Chelios didn't shake one Duck hand tho he did shake hands with the Anaheim coaching staff..cheap shots :rotfl: your team was constantly in the paint...a goalie has the right to defend his ground...step in and get whacked....now you want to see a hard goalie go watch some Isles games during the Billy Smith era...btw...when you get run you fall...you make me laugh but hey to each their own...I guess in 45+ years of watching the sport I have seen a lot and I tell ya what...if Avery played in the 80's he'd be dead by now...Bettman et al have made this great sport soft.

No team in the east scares you huh...lesson 1...always have some fear because if you don't you cross the line between confident and cocky ;)

I would never ever ever want Avery on my team...he was run out of the western conference....the LA fans rejoiced when he left...btw..he does play dirty...he is classless imo.Well I've watched him all season long. Would you give me some examples of how he plays dirty? Just becuase he gets under people's skin doesn't make him dirty. Dirty is taking cheap shots, hitting guys after the whistle (something the Devils got away with a lot in the series - Did you happen to notice when Clarkson yanked Avery down by the collar after the Ranger goal in the clincher?)

I'm just curious as to where Avery does anything that crosses the line. There are tons of dirty players in the NHL - guys that go out of their way to take cheap hits, etc. I don't see Avery doing that. He talks a ton, and that pisses people off, but that's his aim. Call him classless, call him an idiot, call him an instigator, call him a jerk - that's fine. That's an attack on his personality, and you're entitled to that opinion. But dirty? Where?

I'm happy to have Avery on my team. His reputation as a instigator makes people overlook how skilled he is as a hockey player. Whether or not it's coincidence, the Rangers play better when he's on the ice.

What does Brodeur do? You seem to be wering the Devils colored glasses when it comes to Marty. He's constantly jabbing at guys near the crease, taking dives on anyone that comes near him. He doesn't exactly have a reputation as one of the games "nice guys." But that's ok since he's a Devil and an HOFer, right?

a goalie has the right to defend his ground...step in and get whackedShow me where it says it's ok for a goaltender to punch a guy in the back of the head and/or take dives by initiating contact with a player.

And no, no team in the East scares me. They're all beatable. That's not to say I'm cocky or that I'm expecting the Rangers to have some kind of easy task ahead. Any team can beat any team in any playoff series in any sport. I just don't think there's any one team in the East that's head and shoulders above the rest.

ETA: Here's just one of Broduer's classic dives:

I think it breaks down that it depends on who wins the CAL v SJ. If CAL wins, they will face DET and COL would face DAL. But if SJ wins, then they would face DAL and DET would face COL. Either way, they will both be great series to watch, but I think DAL and DET will survive to the finals. Then again, you never know what's going to happen in the playoffs. Ya know when he was doing his chicken dance in front of Marty that btw made the NHL clarify unsportsman like rule, he made contact with Marty's helmet...oh I forgot...Avery didn't do anything...as for Clarkson...well Avery has been badmouthing the kid since he first saw him in Re/Black and you know what...yeah Dave throws some and Avery just does it in the following manner...if he sees he won't be caught then he cheapshots...oh my bad...if it isn't called then it is fair eh? You watched him all season and you saw nothing...well I guess you were using your blue colored glasses ;)

What does Brodeur do? You seem to be wering the Devils colored glasses when it comes to Marty. He's constantly jabbing at guys near the crease, taking dives on anyone that comes near him. Oh please don't make me laugh while I am drinking my tea...Marty is well known as one of the nice guys...taking dives...this is just too funny...the example you provided shows Jagr's right side making contact with Marty...contact is goalie interference if goalie is in the crease...I am sure you will now tell me that Henrik doesn't ever dive...your team ran all over Marty this series and I am pissed about it...if Stevens or Dano was still on the ice there would be no Avery to speak of...he is a wuss...and calling people names is something one does in grammar school...Show me where it says it's ok for a goaltender to punch a guy in the back of the head and/or take dives by initiating contact with a player.

btw...what has Avery achieved in his career?? Henrik too??? What??? Marty has one of the best composures of any goalie I mean your back up Steve V said if Avery did that to him there would be teeth on the ice or something to that extent...Avery is just classless and the sport doesn't need him...I have never wished harm on any player of any team in any sport however I will break open a bottle of bubbly the day Avery is decked and I mean decked.

You can love all your players on your team with no eye for the crap...that is fine with me...I am a hockey fan first and a team fan second...the Devils over achieved this season considering how they started and all the upheaveal of a coach that I do not think is correct for this sqad, loss of Rafalski more so than Gomer, never really replacing the kind of d-men ala Stevens, Dano or Nieds (btw not a Nieds fan either), Lou making some poor decisions last season and few other things...btw I sure wish we could use a time machine and see Avery survive in the 70's or 80's...he would never have survived...and nothing would have been called.

So I will root for the Flyers tonight, imagine a Devil fan rooting for the Flyers over the RanJuhs, and I will root loud...it would be fun to see Avery vs Hatcher or better yet someone like Downie...oh yeah...that would be poetic justice imnsho :)

Fun chatting with you :)

Man, I love this time of year :)

Congrats on your Wings moving onward...I have a friend in Dallas who cannot understand how I was rooting for a Stars/Wings WCF...have some good friends in Texas along with um er 2 ex's, so to say ;)

Gonna be a wild night tonight. :hyper:

MTL v BOS - GAME 7

and of course,

WSH v PHI - game 6

The winner of the MTL v BOS series is pretty much gonna determine who plays who next round (cause I think the FLYERS are takin it tonight ;)). Lemme see if I have this straight:
(if MTL and PHI win)
PHI v MTL
NYR v PIT
(if BOS and PHI win)
PHI v NYR
BOS v PIT
(if MTL and WSH win)
NYR v MTL
WSH v PIT
(if BOS and WSH win)
BOS v PIT
NYR v WSH

I really think the FLYERS are gonna kick the living crap outta the Caps tonight. No mercy. VENGEANCE at its finest. :D
And IMO that MTL v BOS game could go either way. That's the beauty of Game 7.

God damn, I love the playoffs. :blinkie:

Great job by the Flyers. I think I'd be pulling for them to win it all right now, but something about that Boston - Montreal series got my nostalgia going, so I think I'm going to root for Les Habs to win thier first Stanley Cup since....when? The days of Guy Lafleur? Before that? I'll have to check. Excuse me a second...

It was 92-93. The Flower was still there, but Guy Charbonneau and Marcus Naslund were the scoring leaders. Curiously, that was the last time a team based in Canada won the Cup.

Congrats Truff, and more importantly to the Flyers :) I'm worried about how they are going to fair against MTL though. That's going to be a tough series for the Flyers.

Yes! COL vs DET! I love these series. As a DET fan living in Colorado I'm going to see how many people yell at me over the next week when I wear my RW jersey out. My predections are 20-30 people yell at me, 2-5 people try to start fights. Wish me luck :)

DAL and DET are going to crush SJ and COL and then we'll get to see the good seriers of DAL and DET. And even though I'm a DET fan, my prediction: DAL vs MTL for the cup.

I've got a feeling Turco is going to pull another choking act. Winston, I'll be one of the locals yelling at you on the streets of Denver :) watch out! I think the wings goaltending is a bit precarious, but then again Theodore could easily revert to the slug that got run out of Montreal. I'm *hoping* for a good series! The Avs are much improved after all of the injuries, but still, Detroit beat us 4 in a row this season; that'll be tough to overcome.

Winston Smith
04-24-08, 03:35 PM
Don't worry JD, I'm ready :) The Avs looked pretty good in the last series, but I just don't think their defense is gonna hold up against detriot, especially Theodore. While he has stepped it up in the last 10-15 games, he is still prone to make too many mistakes. The Avs have a good offense, and a great center, but detriot's defense is tough, and with two good goaltenders, in Hasek and Osgood, the Avs are going to have a tough time. But with some familiar faces with playoff experience on the ice, they could prove me wrong. They play a much different game in the playoffs then regular season, so those four losses don't mean much. we'll see what happens tonight.

Yeah, Theodore is way frustrating, brilliant one game, horrid the next. Avs are suddenly hurting. Wolski is out, and he's been a sparkplug so far, and Forsbergs mysterious groin flared up again. Not looking good for the Avs at this point; long series though so I'm hoping they bounce back.

I say Wings in 5...Dallas may win one at home. Turco has never won at Joe Louis Arena here in Detroit...that's gotta be in the back of his head right now as he prepares for tonight's game. I think the Wings won the regular season series vs. the Stars...so that bodes well for them in the playoffs. But still, living and dying with the Wings for so many years now, I still get nervous whenever we start a new round...with the Wings, anything can happen and it seems they often make it so difficult to win a series in the playoffs. I'm just hoping for a good series...with the Wings winning in the end.

Then, hmmm, I guess I'd like to see the Flyers vs. Wings in the finals...if I remember correctly, the Wings swept them back in '97 in the finals....hey Truff, should I get out my broom! :D

PITTSBURGH - Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen is likely to miss the remainder of the playoffs after he was found to have a blood clot in his left ankle yesterday. It is devastating news for the Flyers as they open their series with the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight. Ronald Fairman, chief of vascular surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, made the diagnosis.
"I got hit with a shot [from Andrei Markov] in Game 4 against Montreal," the 33-year-old defenseman said. "It's been getting sorer and sorer every day. We thought we'd get it checked out because it did not get better and they found a blood clot. . . . This has been an awful day for me.
"It's the most disappointing thing in my hockey life, for sure. . . . It's an awful feeling. I was expecting to play. How many times in your lifetime do you get to play in a conference final?"
An MRI exam on Wednesday failed to reveal a problem, general manager Paul Holmgren said, but Fairman found a small blood clot yesterday. Timonen was placed on blood thinners.
"I asked the doctor what could happen and what was the worst-case scenario," Timonen said. "He said, 'If you get hit there again, the blood clot might break up and go down to your toes and we'd have to cut off your toes.' That's not a very good scenario."
Timonen said he suffered a similar injury to the same ankle five years ago while playing for Nashville and developed a clot as well.
The Flyers initially treated the injury as a bone bruise, icing the ankle. They called for an MRI test when the defenseman's pain persisted.
"It continued to bother him more and more each day," Holmgren said. "To rule out a fracture, we checked it out. It's a quite serious thing. He needs to go on blood thinners. He's not going to be available."
Holmgren said there was a small chance that in a week's time there would be improvement, but he was not holding out much hope that Timonen would play in this series.
Timonen initially told The Inquirer he was out for the remainder of the playoffs. However, during a conference call with reporters, the Finnish defenseman said Fairman told him the only hope to return was if things went well over the next 10 days and the clot disappeared.
"Kimmo did get some glimmer of hope. Who knows?" Holmgren said. "They don't know. The clot could respond to the medicine he is taking. It's right where he ties up his skates, and it would be difficult [to play]. I'm not going to hold out any hope he's back in this series. We'll see after that."
Timonen is the club's best two-way defenseman. He was expected to play against Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin. His loss greatly affects the Flyers' chances to win the conference finals.
He was the shutdown defenseman against Washington's Alexander Ovechkin in the first round and Montreal's Saku Koivu in the second. His 34 blocked shots in the postseason were second on the team to Jason Smith (37).
The composure Timonen brings to the ice, both carrying the puck and defending against the top offensive players in the league, cannot be replaced. Outside of goalie Marty Biron, he is the Flyers' best defensive weapon.
"It is what it is. We have to deal with it," Holmgren said. "It gives someone else an opportunity to step up. Everybody else has to do their part. Obviously, you can't replace a player who does what Kimmo does for us."
Veteran Jaroslav Modry will likely fill Timonen's spot, coach John Stevens said. Modry has far more experience than rookie Ryan Parent.
"I played in Game 5 in Montreal, but it was really hurting me," Timonen said. "I have to be honest, I didn't expect this result."
Timonen did not make the trip to Pittsburgh.

Not good for him...his doctor is right on...if it broke it could also travel up not just down...Get Well :)

Ouch. That sucks about Timonen. :( I hope he gets better soon.

I still think we can win, its just gonna be a little harder now.

I guarantee you Mike Richards is gonna be all over Crosby like flies on poo.
There will probably be fighting within the first 5 minutes if its anything like the last couple times these 2 teams met.

Well, we deserved to lose that game.
SLOPPY PLAY ALL AROUND from the Flyers.

The turnovers were horrendous.
They didn't aggresively play the puck or the man. They just stood around and watched it happen. And I know its not just cause Timonen is out, they played poorly.

But I have no fear. My FLYERS will be back with a VENGEANCE on Sunday. To quote Sensei John Kreese:
"Strike First, Strike Hard, NO MERCY"

The fear of commiting a penalty held them back from being the team they are. On Sunday, the Pens better be ready cause its gonna get real ugly real fast.

Man, Pitt seemed to simply out muscle the flyers for the whole game. There were some great checks in there, I'm surprised more people didn't get hurt. It's going to be a crazy series. So much so, that I think whoever comes out the winner is going to be pretty hurt, and will have a tough time playing the wings. :D

Not surprised at all.
All I saw were highlights (I was at band practice during the game :p) but the Wings look like the powerhouse they were in the late 90s all over again but with different (and some same) players.

The PHI v PIT series is going to be a WAR.
Whoever walks away from that series is going to be HELL BENT on winning the Cup.
Yes, the Wings kick some serious butt right now, but that final step isn't going to be like Nashville, Colorado, or Dallas. If Detroit is going to win the Cup, they will have to earn it. There will be no sweeping in the Cup finals, IMO. Regardless of who wins in the east, I predict at least a 6 game series for the Cup.

(Dallas fans probably hate me for counting them out already, but I'm sorry, they're not gonna beat Detroit, no way, no how. :p)

BOOOOO!!!! The Flyers lose game 2 to the Pens 4-2. :(
Though this looked a lot more like what I was expecting in this series as compared to game 1 where the Flyers barely showed up.
And again it was a SLOPPY TURNOVER that cost em the game. This time by a guy, Steve Downie, who has been a scratch for the last 5 games.
I think its time to tweak the lines a little.

Hopefully Coburn will be back in game 3, cause the last thing we need is for 2 of our top defensemen in Timonen and Coburn to go down at once.

If the Flyers don't win both games in Philly, they're done IMO. :(

Great job by the Wings. Knew they would be too much for the Stars to handle. Still time for the Stars to win game 4, so that 4 - 1 prediction can come true, but honestly, I just didn't want to seem to arrogant in predicting a sweep.

Pausing to consider for a second...

Oh please, it will be fine...Detroit gets such a bad rap for something that happened back in 1984! We have won plenty of Stanley Cups and Basketball Championships since then and there hasn't been any real trouble. We have had millions of people in downtown for the parades and all went well. I for one would love it if both my Wings and Pistons win the championships...I'll be at both parades! GO WINGS! GO PISTONS!

I would like to see them at least win tonight at home, and then we can go from there. :p

Don't worry, they will. Hey Salem, I got in a shouting match last night with a guy who saw me cheering for the wings. He had the audacity to say the Avs were the best team in the league and that it was only because of injuries that they lost to the wings. Really? Is that why they fired their headcoach last week? Is that why there goaltending sucks? Becuase of injuries? He called me a bad word when I told him the Avs were lucky they made to the playoffs at all and that their season didn't prove they even deserved to be there. I can understand being a fan of a losing team, but don't make things up to justify it. It's just silly.

The guy wouldn't shut up though, but he didn't know the bartender is a good friend of mine, so she cut him off and told him to leave. He was pissed and I just smiled. :D

The wings will take it Saturday. Truff, I hate to say it, but I'm routing for the Penguins tonight. I just think that the wings would destroy the flyers and more than anything I want a good Stanley Cup this year. DET vs. PITT is going to be an awesome match up. It will be great hockey with low scores and lots of fighting and pushing and blood on the ice. Just the way I likes it.

Those Avs fans are just jealous. How can he say the Avs were the best team in the league when the Wings won the President's Trophy this year? I know they offered Roy the job, but I haven't heard if he declined or not. I think it's still on the table. Along with 3-4 other guys. If they got Roy as head coach, my bet is his first thing would be to fire Theodore, or at least put Budai as starter. It would be a smart move.

For tomorrow - we got some GREAT news today - Kimmo Timonen WILL PLAY IN GAME 5. :hyper: Coburn is doubtful still, but gettin Kimmo back is gonna strengthen our defense even more.
Its gonna be the toughest game to win out of all the games we've played so far. Pittsburgh has not lost at home yet. YET. After the loss, they're gonna be comin out with a head of steam. We just have to match or best it.

I am assuming salem that the Stars won...what was the score? Was it a good game...dang I hate 1:30 games  3P NBC tomorrow for Pitt/Phi.

Stars 2, Wings 1. It was a frustrating game from my perspective. I knew we were in trouble early on...because it was one of those games where the Wings should have had like 3 goals early, but the puck would hit the crossbar, or bounce the wrong way - luck was definitely not on their side. And I hate when the Wings do this....they throw everything but the kitchen sink at the net and nothing goes in. They need to snap out of it and get some goals early...or they could be in trouble. I've seen this before with them and I don't like it. Dallas was really tired those first couple of games after their long OT. Now they seem well rested and are playing good again...so anything can happen at this point. I still have confidence in my Wings....they are the better team....they just need to turn it around and put some pucks in the net. When that goal was taken back in game 4....I saw the tide turn in Dallas' favor....and too often the Wings let this happen....it scares me. What a lousy time for Turco to finally get his first win in Joe Louis Arena!!!

Dew
05-18-08, 05:20 PM
Thanks for the info salem :) I know all too well about throw everything at the net and nothing goes in. My Devs did that all season. I used to yell at the tv at my team yelling KISS...simple is all you need sometimges ;)

The one thing I hated most about missing the game was watching Raffy...I sure miss him :(

salem2005
05-18-08, 07:40 PM
Rafalski has worked out great for us. But I think we are missing Franzen in the lineup right now....and he will still be out in Game 6. If it goes to 7, they might push him to come back early.

And just to make me even more nervous  ...I just read this little factoid:

In Stanley Cup playoff history, only two teams have lost a series after leading three games to none. One of them, however, was Detroit against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1942 Stanley Cup Finals - and there is no doubt the Red Wings have been reminded of that fact.

For those who believe in numerology, there is another odd bit of history at play.

The 1975 New York Islanders are the only other team to rally from a three-game deficit - and they just happened to do it 33 years after the Red Wings’ collapse. A pattern could be developing - 1942 … 1975 … 2008?

Well, that just about does it for the Flyers. 20 pointless minutes to go.
They certainly handed the Pens that game.
And with it 5-0 after 2 periods, I turned the game off to watch the Indiana Jones marathon on SciFi. I don't wanna see them rub it in anymore.

So congrats to the Pens, good luck with the Wings or Stars (I hope they have to play Detroit).

And a huge congratulations to Paul Holmgren, John Stevens, and the Philadelphia Flyers for one hell of a season. They went from being the bottom of the barrel WORST team in the NHL last season to making the Conference Finals this year. That's a pretty damn good bounceback if you ask me. :)

I dunno who I want to root for in the Finals yet......

Have fun at the game, there's nothing in the world like a Cup finals game!
Ahhh, yes, that explains it....they are soooo good!
