Selectable Style Themes - Suggestions

Okay people, you've had the chance to browse around a bit and get a sense of the new board. Hopefully, alot of you are feeling a little bit more comfortable. There are some things that we are still working on, and some things that we will continue to develop.

One of the things that will most likely be an ongoing development is the MyMedia Styles. These are styles (themes, looks, color schemes) that are selectable in the drop-down menu at the bottom-left corner of the forums. When selected, these styles will be applied to all areas of the forums that are not part of a particular forum. For example, the selected style will not be applied to the Lost, Heroes, Movies, etc. forums where there is a specific style in place, but it will be applied to all of the MyMedia areas, like UserCP, New Posts, etc., and eventually to the MyMedia portal page.

Since we realize that the rest of the forums' styles have been sort of decided for you, we would like to give you the opportunity to have some input as to the content of the selectable styles that will be available for your use. We are opening this thread up for theme suggestions, and then once we have a decent list, we'll open up a poll (or a series of polls) to get a sense of which ideas are most popular.

There are only a couple of limitations as far as suggestions go. We ask that the theme suggestions be media related and follow the board content guidelines. (I have to put it out there; just because a suggestion is made doesn't automatically mean that it will be included in the polls, and just because a suggestion does well or wins in the polls does not automatically mean that it will be made into a style). So, suggest away!

It was originally a Dominic Monaghan love fest. So I say Lost, even if its something generic like a desert island, or an eye, or Dharma logos. Or white rabbits.

We are still working on making that background a randomly selected still graphic. :D

LOL. No, May, what she means is that every time you refresh the page, a random "nose" will be selected and it will stay until you click away. For an example, visit Lost-Media. They do the same thing. But ours will be cooler. :)

I would love to see changing movie posters or stills in the movie section (Annie Hall, Saving Private
Ryan, Dr. Zhivago, Pulp Fiction, Die Hard, The Little Tramp, Metropolis--a few
of these were stolen from LS).

In the TV section, the same thing, stills from TV shows that go from the
Honeymooners to The Office.

Varied books in the library section, etc.

Maybe we could vote on which books, movies, etc. would be changing in the background. Maybe the people who have been here a really long time
could pick.

Liz, you asked, hope it's not TMI.

The idea here is not to change the backgrounds that are already tied to specific forums. Lost, Heroes, Movies, Music, Library, etc. will all keep their current backgrounds. The selectable styles will only apply to the MyMedia "portal" page, and all of the other parts of the board that are not incorporated with other forums, such as UserCP, the All Forums page, New posts, etc......basically the parts where you now see the brown/red standard MyMedia style.

On a side note, though, we can apply temporary background/styles to the other forums for certain special events and releases, such as the Halo 3 background that is now up in gaming due to the highly anticipated recent release of that game. It's something to keep in mind. :D

We kept the backgrounds in Music, Movies, Library, and such very general on purpose in order to be a bit more inclusive and to not show a preference or leaning toward particular genres.

That is the beauty of what we're doing here, May. It's going to be selectable, so that you can choose what you DO like, and let other people choose what they like.

There are going to be a handful of styles chosen, so hopefully there will be something that you like in there.

There aren't alot of choices in there yet, though.

Ok...

Firstly a montage of the lead characters from different shows, or key ideas etc, that would be fun.

A Dharma/oceanic theme
Scrubs/Sacred Heart...
A 'House' theme
Some sort of CSI theme

Also a montage of British programmes would be nice.
