I'm back, this week was busy and I haven't had a lot of free time. But now it's the weekend, and I'm working on reviewing new information from Abrams and Lindelof. I'm frightened by some of what I'm reading and hearing because it contradicts some of their earlier statements about the show. If they're going to keep changing the game, than anything could be possible as far as what's going on. On the other hand, some of what I'm seeing is very cool, so I'll see what it looks like when I'm done putting it together. I doubt I'll have any new theories, just information from them that will either rule out or support some of the one's we're already kicking around.

That's all for now, but I will give you a hint to one of the things I'm working on as a trivia question...what came out around February, 1997?

Are you talking about a book? A movie? A TV show? A theory? A procedure? Come on - little help here.

Solo Frenchwoman Arrives at South Pole

Laurence De La Ferriere, 39, of France traveled solo on foot approximately 800 miles from Hercules Inlet near Patriot Hills, to the South Pole, arriving after 55 days on Jan. 19. (See EN, November 1996).

n International Conference on the Radiological Situation at the Atolls of Mururoa and Fangataufa will take place at the Vienna International Centre
, the Conference will scrutinize the results of a recent Study on the radiological conditions at the atolls.

The atolls, narrow rims of coral reef jutting a few metres above the ocean, located in French Polynesia in the middle of the South Pacific, were the site of nearly 200 nuclear tests carried out by France from 1966 until January 1996, when all French nuclear testing ceased.

How about Harry Potter? Things are never quite what they appear to be in Harry Potter.

It has reality, magic, the mystical and supernatural, science with a twist, interesting people, wondrous plots, good vs evil, growth and character development, backstory, unexplained creatures, an element of religious theory, speculation, die-hard fans.

For the most part there is also a sense of confinement, a group that sticks to itself and has limited interference from the outside world. There is also mystery, a hint of romance, danger, problems that need to be solved, a hero on a quest and his trusty band of side-kicks, a core group of leaders, a villain and a sense of its own "world" and the possibility of anything happening.

Everything within the world of Harry Potter is explained eventually and we are thoroughly immersed in its reality. As we read (or watch), we accept it as "real".

Could Lost be Harry Potter for adults?

Dolly the cloned sheep was created in 1996, but made public in February 1997.

Am I warm Pinn?

Cloning could explain how non-indigenous animals are there. The survivors could have been implanted with memories of the crash and pasts, and a fake/set-up crash would explain their artisitc scrapes and bruises.

I've been lurking for a while and have really enjoyed the board, and in turn have enjoyed the show even more, and scrutinize every scene looking for the smallest of hints. Thanks to all, and it is also refreshing to see a board led with intelligent exchanges rather than constant flaming for the sake of flaming. Well done all.

Apparently, pinnerman's theories must age properly like fine wines or gourmet cheeses. :)

I, on the other hand, have the patience of a 2-year-old. It's been 3 hours since anybody posted in this thread! How is there anything scientific or pseudo-that in a comic book?!? And why am I so dense that I can't even imagine what it might be?

dry, who will soon go to bed and try to smooth her ruffled feathers.....:(

JacksGirlfriend
10-24-04, 02:13 AM
dry: I waited like five hours for his last theory. He kept putting teasers in all the threads. I finally had to get dressed and leave the house because I needed groceries. Families just don't understand when you sit and stare at a board, ignoring their needs, especially when nothing is happening!

I suspect he's fine-tuning this latest. Perhaps we're bringing aliens into the mix now...

The natives are obviously getting restless.

Came "out"? That is a strange way of teasing. Sounds like you are talking about a publication or song.

Today is the first time I have read this thread. You have piqued my curiosity. I recall two events that year...neither "came out."
1- Princess Diana was killed
2- Hong Kong left British soveriegnty

So...I know those are far off ...and neither came up in episode two. I am like the others: I am salivating for the theory...and it is Sunday in the USA. I am counting on pinnerman having the time to espouse today. Meanwhile: I am going to rewatch episode 2. Sherlock Court...on it!

I almost posted a complaint at around 7:00 am, but then decided to pretend to be patient.

And now I'll pretend to be helpful. Here are some other events from February 1997:

The Simpsons surpassed The Flintstones as the longest running animated prime-time program.

Repair work started on the Hubble Telescope.

Deng Xiaoping, the last of the People's Republic of China revolutionaries, died.

It rained 3.96" in College Station, Texas.

In a civil trial, O.J. Simpson was found liable for the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.

Somewhere in there is some valuable information, and I have every confidence that this group will be able to pull it all together!

And Dolly!

I am NOT going to theorize or hypothisize. I am going to say I went to the "YOur theories are wrong and here's why..." thread and read it carefully. I believe (and I am spelling this wrong) the theoritician xxxandraxxx is onto a good explanation in cloning.

I go back to the fact that Dan and JJ can change anything mid stream...ALL of this is discussed on that thread. I had never read it...but would advise all of you to go through it.

Now then...unlike me (who picks and chooses what I want to read at this forum) I believe Pinnerman is much more serious about it. I can't believe he would "re-hash" the cloning idea. Having rewatched episode 2: the first thing that stood out in it was the sheep in the background of the ranch...when the rancher finds Kate asleep. I made a list of about 25 possibillities where Pinnerman could be directing us: all of them pale next to the sheep clue.

I am going to mention the two things which were placed in episode two which made me wonder...since the FIRST time I saw it:

1- The prosthetic arm (why place this in the show?)
2- The mention of the 23K mortgage several times...and brought up again in the tent just before the marshal dies.

We are all followers of DL and JJ A...and we know they can lead us on wild goose chases...but repetitions...and film time of these things can be brought back for ultimate explanations. What possible explanantion for the prosthesis?

Cloning. GOOD theory...the length of time to do it all?? Well...another chapter from Alias...Sark and Sydney's parents have been involved in the good vs. evil for all of Sydney's life. They have made something believable before...I am not putting anything past them in this show.

JacksGirlfriend
10-24-04, 07:04 PM
dry: I want some "magic" too. And now I think we just might get our wish.

cc: The prosthetic arm was a reference to the old Fugitive TV show. Dr. Richard Kimball, accused of murder, has seen a one-armed man kill his wife but season after season he could never seem to find him. In this show, we have the fugitive (Kate) being turned in by the one-armed man.

The $23,000 I haven't a clue. It's a very odd number and doesn't seem much reward for the capture of an international fugitive. That leads me to believe the marshall wasn't exactly on the up and up - it's almost like it was his personal money he was putting up for the reward. Maybe we'll find out some day.

The sheep: could be a cloning reference. Could also be a reference to the "sheep" Kate will help to lead later or perhaps even meeting up with a "shepherd."

Read Pinnerman's new post yet?

Yes..just finished it...and realize I watched episode 3 instead of two. When they reaired the first and second episodes, I TIVOed them together...and removed the one and two together. Going through my list, I just chose the 2nd Lost which had been saved. I am tooooooooo stupid to play this game with you smart people.

Okay...I have already said Pinnerman is King of the site. I demur to the USA at this point and wish to say: "Pinnerman for President."

Talk about obsessed? This will pretty well give him a DSM 301.6 dx as opposed to DSM 300.3 dx as his is definitely personality instead of disorder. Absolutely stupendous.

My only concern follows: After he has come up with these brilliant answers (note I have gone from theory to answer) the creative team is going to have to take different paths which are going to lead us to less fulfilling answers. I continue to say Pinnerman should be plucked by Abrams and Lindelof as a writer. Take him away from this board: his insights (and obsessions) are too good for all of us. While we are chasing aliens, clones, nuclear mutations, he is ordering the comic book(s). I ask now: is there another among us who has the comic books? Could we have figured out how to get them?? Yes...we all have computer skills do google. Why didn't we? Not sure of ourselves, less compulsive than Pinnerman, blvd the polar bear cartoon a red herring?? Which/whatever...none of the rest of us went down that trail.

This is reasoning and explanation so far beyond my scope I can barely say how inadequate I am feeling right now.

I stand in awe.

You go Pinnerman!!

I imagine Pinnerman bought the comic book because he already has a collection (fess up now, Pinnerman). Alot of men have them. We have quite a few in our house - my boys were fanatics for awhile.

the creative team is going to have to take different paths which are going to lead us to less fulfilling answers

I don't think so. I think we're going to go down some exciting paths and I think the answers will be imaginative and mind-reeling. I see such possibility in this. It won't be so cut and dried. It will hold the essence of fiction - the joy of abandoning yourself to an entirely different world. I love it!

You've just been thinking a little too realistically, cc. Once you enter my realm of anything is possible, believe me you'll have a much better time. The gateway is open - come in any time and join the rest of the lunatics. We like our realism with a touch of something else.

JacksGF: Along the lines of the sheep and the number 23 (which is becoming extremely frequent on the show) thinking back to high school bio, aren't there 23 chromosomes from both the male and female involved in reproduction (natural/cloning)?

JacksGirlfriend

Stainless: I am sometimes so dense it defies my imagination.

I've been thinking all along - "$23,000 is such an insignificant amount of money in the scheme of things" and here it's been 23 again. How did I not connect that?

Also you could be right about the chromosomes.

I had already noticed a post about two weeks ago, someone actually pasted the screen cap of the comic and gave info including the title and storyline.... but it never dawned on me as a maybe theory, I didn't think they would actually use the same story just because they have said no aliens before...
I was waiting for some your thoughts thanks pinn.

For a while I thought you were an imposter poster, no real pinnerman research has been done since the phily experiment posting.. If they choose this comic book as a source of some of the story, The monster in particular, I will still love it. I am just worried about this damn recurring purgatory theme...

Must be nice to see the actuall printed pages of those comics though.. I was a collector... MANY good sources in comics for storylines... always deeper than tv....

JJ, mix and match at will...
I'll be watching... until Jack jumps the shark anyway

we'll be seeing a lot of the number 23... he probaly just likes the number... I do.. ( or don't I'm still not sure..)

I think he's just playing with science and ideas..

I agree though, reading our posts must have made them realize how much we will dissect the information we have been given.. no doubt hey would eventually have to add some new stuff/ misdirect etc just to explain something they hadn't planned on explaing due to fan curiosity, like an engine that was oddly still running.. I am EXTREMELY honored to be part of this... experiment if you will.

I am the type of man who enjoyed choose your own adventure stories.. actually I loved them. I wonder if JJ could do a show like that.. US choosing which way the show went. them filming different versions... okay now I'm dreaming..

Hey pinn. As a favour to me, I don't know if you've read the 23 thing yet, but I have posted earlier about it... with your research/ logic capable mind... try to find some sort of conclusion as to why the number 23... it's always bugged me. If you have any interest anyway, I think you might.

JacksGF- you're probably right with the sheep thing, about her meeting a shepherd, as Jack's surname is indeed "Shepard."

In Numerology, 23 is the ultimate number of prime importance. It shows up constantly in history, and Aleister Crowley was obssessed wth it. 23 was described as "the union of the godhead", and meant everything to black magicians, numerologists, and William S. Burroughs. Perhaps Kate is meant to be an important crux somewhere, something incredibly important.

I'm going to do some more research on our little number, to see what it else it could symbolize

I think Sawyer likes people. He just doesn't know exactly how to relate to them at this point in his life. He goes out of his way to approach them, engage them in conversation and stir them up. That doesn't strike me as a man who doesn't like people - a man like that would be solitary and standoffish. Sawyer isn't that way. He yearns for a reaction out of people and he'll take their attention any way he can get it. What he really needs his someone to call his bluff - and that person could well be Kate down the road. Not necessarily as a romantic link, but as a friend.

That doesn't mean he can't change and it doesn't mean he was always the way he is now. There's some emotional turmoil inside him that keeps him from wanting to get too close. Once he starts trusting people and letting them in, I think we'll see a man with some potential.
