Since I volunteered to help in the Organization category, this is probably the best place to start. If you've looked at the Community Cookbook (http://www.scrapblog.com//viewer/viewer.aspx?sbid=90855), you know how good it looks already. If not, please stop reading my post now and check it out. ;)

Here's who has volunteered for specific things since clayseason1 posted (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1789052#post1789052) the proposed committees:

Page Design and Creation - clayseason1
Organization - RoseArienh, Gertie
Development
Reviewers - Frecklestoo, RoseArienh
Promotion - FrecklestooSo jump right in, let's have fun and eat well at the same time. Let us know by posting here if you want to work on something specific, or have ideas, comments and suggestions.

Okay, okay! I am supporting this idea, so, I'll volunteer to help rosearienh with the organization. And of course, I've already started to PROMOTE this (go see in the Oasis). I'm so there!

A new hobby. YAY!

clayseason1
10-03-07, 01:36 PM
That's what I like about this project. It's ongoing -- there's no deadline -- we can each contribute in our own way - nice and easy. It perfectly suits me. Right now, work is pretty bad and I'm just brain-dead and wound real tight by the time I get home. Working with the images and colors is therapeutic for me.

.... now I have to go to work. :weeping:

The Page Design and Creation department respectfully requests the organization department to come up with (initially) a loosely defined order of recipes. :D For example: Meat, Poultry, Eggs, Pasta, Desserts etc or Desserts, Meat, Fish , Pasta etc

The categories can be broad for quite some time but it will be easier to keep the recipes in some order as they are added rather than try and order 50 recipes at a later date.

RoseArienh
10-04-07, 12:57 AM
Here's my proposed list. I've tried to make a few broad categories that would still allow for quick reference. Some categories may not apply at this time, but may in the future.

Appetizers and Snacks
Beverages
Soups, Stews and Casseroles
Beef Entrees
Poultry Entrees
Pork Entrees
Pasta Entrees
Vegetarian Entrees
Side Dishes
Vegetables
Desserts

gertie
10-04-07, 01:14 AM
Rose, you beat me to it! But here's a list I came up with. Very similar!

Appetizers
Beverages
Dips, Dressings and Sauces
Breads
Eggs and Dairy
Meat
Poultry
Seafood
Pasta
Vegetables
Salads
Soups and Stews
Desserts and Confections

Gertie, I like yours better - especially confections - what a perfect word!

gertie
10-04-07, 01:38 AM
Gertie, I like yours better - especially confections - what a perfect word!

:) Thanks! I liked that word, too!

We can combine the two lists, though. Now the hard part. Getting all the recipes organized!

Did clayseason say we could use her cookbook sign-in? I'm not sure how to do this. Did I say, I'm new at this?

RoseArienh
10-04-07, 01:44 AM
Me too, especially the complicated parts. :D

CS, what do you need next? How about a list of recipies by category?

I had a couple of brainstorms, too.

If we could convince the admin that it's a worthy cause, maybe we could have theme week contests, with the best recipe appearing as a featured post.

And maybe a cookie exchange in December?

gertie
10-04-07, 01:53 AM
I like the featured post idea, a lot. Especially for the upcoming holidays.

Cookie exchange? I'm not sure what you mean.

clayseason1
10-04-07, 01:56 AM
Wow! That was fast!

Gertie, I only have a few done - so I can put them in order - I'll ask for clarification on any that could fit two categories or as Rose mentioned - if you want to go through the thread and make a list of the existing recipes and categorize them, then when I do the recipe page, I can put them where you want.

Rose - theme weeks and cookie exchanges! - I'm all for that! Best to bring the promotion department in on that.

Wow - you guys are fast and good (and I mean that in the best way). lol

RoseArienh
10-04-07, 02:05 AM
Well, we'd really just exchange cookie recipes. I'm not a great baker, I'd love to get some easy recipes for cookies for the holidays. Or maybe broaden the field to include other holiday items like candies and punch and eggnog and stuff.

gertie
10-04-07, 02:13 AM
Again, my mom had the best recipe for homemade eggnog. Made that store-bought stuff taste ridiculous. I'd have to ask my sister for that recipie, too.

Oh, I got the other cheesecake recipe, but haven't posted it yet.

Okay, I linked to Frecklestoo link, and it's different than the one at the beginning of this thread. Isn't it?

clayseason1
10-04-07, 02:46 AM
Okay, I linked to Frecklestoo link, and it's different than the one at the beginning of this thread. Isn't it?
...hmmm...I thought I replaced the link before Frecklestoo linked it in her sig.
At any rate - the original pages were quickly thrown together. I've been spending some time on these that are linked above. Do you like them?

That's the same one Freckles has! Sorry, I had looked at the one in the recipe thread!

It's looking gorgeous, btw.

I can't start with a list of recipes tonight, but do you need the post, or the post link?

clayseason1

gertie, I'm brain dead -- what post/link?

RoseArienh

I've moved the recipe index to the second post in this thread. Keep those recipes and suggestions coming! :)

gertie
10-04-07, 03:00 AM
Well, no need for me to worry about it! Rose to the rescue!

clayseason1
10-04-07, 03:01 AM
That was fast. That format looks fine for me and I'll leave the categorizing to you and gertie - I think you're both fantastic!

eta: Looks like we're heavy on the desserts (the way it should be - lol).

gertie
10-04-07, 03:04 AM
A couple of suggestions:

Dips, Dressings and Sauces
Sauce for skewered meat and perogies 31
Country Sausage Dip 32
Crab Dip 57
Blue Cheese dressing 60

should go dips first, then dressings, then sauces. Sort of a sub-category.

Same with this, but also add your casseroles to the title:

Soups and Stews
Super Duper Chilli Con Carne 5
Mama Casserole 16
Garlic Soup 28
Red Beans and Rice 109

RoseArienh
10-04-07, 03:06 AM
Good idea! I'll wait a bit, and see if we have other suggestions, and go back and edit, okay?

OK, so do we put recipes here now? Or do we keep posting them in the recipe thread?

gertie
10-04-07, 03:43 AM
We'll need an index, too (maybe). That's going to be rough.

I also thought about including a chapter for cooking tips. Such as "Cooked rice freezes well. It can be stored in refrigerator for a week; in the freezer for as long as 3 months". Or, tips on how to choose fresh food.

I think still in the Recipe thread. I'll keep checking for new recipes and adding them to the list.

How about a "Kid-friendly" section, or if there aren't enough recipes, a notation for kid-friendly recipes?

They should post it in the recipe thread, and we'll use this one to discuss the actual cookbook.

As Rose says -- that's a great idea -- maybe a section just for kids - recipes geared toward age groups.

so what if someone wants to add a recipe, should they still post in the recipe exchange thread? or here?
Yes, as Rose replied in the recipe exchange thread. Also if someone tries one of the recipes and wants to post a review -- that review should be posted in the recipe exchange thread and we'll link it in the cookbook. I just did one on the low-fat mousse. So, if you click on the cookbook and arrow through to the low-fat mousse recipe -- click on Rose's name and that will bring up her review. (The reviews can be simply stated or if someone wants to include a you-tube or photos, I can incorporate those into the pages as well -- or create a separate page if there's a lot of material.)

I'm looking to cook a spaghetti squash tonight. Suggestions?

Best to ask that in the recipe exchange thread or the veggie thread.

I forgot to take pictures, and they would have been great. My niece made the mousse, and she was very serious about her job. I let her do everything, including putting it in individual dishes for chilling. She's five, and willing to be shown once -- then she'll do it.

I started cooking at a very young age. I remember the first thing I did - that piece of bread that you cut a circle out of and crack an egg in the circle. Fry for a bit.

I had a "Very First Cookbook" before I was even a Brownie scout. I found it among my parent's things when we had to . . . well. I still can't believe my mom kept it for all those years.

I can't see the cookbook when I click. I get the page, but there's a big white block where I assume the cookbook is. Do I need a certain software? I am at work, so if I need to download anything, I might need to wait until I'm home.

ETA: I'm happy to contribute to the dessert section. :)

RoseArienh
10-04-07, 05:47 PM
Oz, I had the same problem, and it turned out to be that I didn't have the latest version of Flash. Try when you get home, it may work there.

I added a page and re-ordered the pages according to the organization department's list.

I'm thinking of creating a new thread with the recipe index as the first post, and subsequent posts to be suggestions, corrections, additions to the index. My purpose is to make it quicker and easier to view and keep correct.

What do you all think?

We need a new cover design for our cookbook. Perhaps The Promotion and or Development departments could post a thread in the fan art section and ask for designs? The design should not exceed 600 x 600 (per board rules). If we get more than one design, we could do a community poll to choose.

eta: The 600 x 600 design would be posted in the first post for people to click on to access the cookbook. We really should also have a variation of that design - 12.5 inches wide and 8.5 in height - that way the first page viewed would be the cover. So I guess we really need the 12.5 x 8.5 design with a 600 x 600 variation for people to click on. Unless we thumbnail the 12.5 x 8.5 design in the first post as the link - which we can do. Whatever you think.

Hey Rose :coffeedunk:
Instead of putting the new recipes in red, could you just change the color of the ones already done to mute them - like maybe grey?

Hey Gertie :coffeedunk:
Could you keep a running post - maybe your first one in this thread - and edit in the reviews from the recipe thread - and maybe mute the color when I've linked them - just like Rose with the new recipes?

Note: The scraplog site is having a couple of problems - one that I've reported is the text likes to migrate to the right. (Every time I work on a new page - I review the existing pages and correct any migrating text - it's a pain.) The other problem happened this morning - two of the pictures from the brushetta recipe disappeared - the frames were still there - so I had to reinsert the pics. If anyone notices (for two consecutive days - because I do check the recipes) either of these things when you play the cookbook, pm me.

Rose, Rose, Rose -- here I thought that red beans and rice page would be a snap. I mean cajun cooking, right? -- wrong -- creole cooking. What's the difference - Well you're going to have to check out the page to find out if you don't already know. By the time I got "inspired" - I had a wealth of information - some facts, some fun - so I shared. Hope you like the page.

This is a perfect time of year to think about visiting the Community Cookbook (http://www.scrapblog.com//viewer/viewer.aspx?sbid=90855), or sharing your recipes in the Lostaways Recipe Exchange (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1867680) so they can eventually be added to the Cookbook.

Hi Ozchick - I'm going to make that Swedish Apple Pie in just a couple of hours for Thanksgiving! (I'll post my family's reviews in the recipe exchange thread. If it tastes half as good as it looks - it will be a hit!)

Just wanted to let everyone know - I haven't abandoned the book. Another project demands my time right now, but when it's over, I'll be back and adding pages.

Rose and gertie - we need another category at the end for the linked in recipes that aren't our members but ones that the members have tried, liked and want to share.
Possible Title - Tested and Approved - something like that. I'll have the page(s) with multiple links for those. I think the end of the book would be the spot for those - what do you think?
