Because I know there are tons of fans here of Les Mis.

This is one of the very few shows that I was actually able to see ON Broadway.

I was very surprised that I enjoyed it, actually.

Oooh, oooh! Me! It's my favorite musical. I've seen it twice, and I've just found out it's coming to the Walnut Street Theatre here in Philly in July of next year. I'm going to start dropping hints that I want to go.

I recently "rediscovered" Les Mis, actually. I hadn't listened to it in forever, but our local PBS station, during its regular donation drive, dragged out the old Les Mis in Concert tape and played the whole thing. I didn't plan on watching the whole thing, but it caught me in its spell and I was captivated all over again. Damn, but I love that show.

It's such a great show. I'll take the opportunity to brag, once again. (I'm sorry, I'm usually not a braggart but today I am.)

My friend Drew Sarich played Jean Valjean recently in the NYC production. He was FANTASTIC! Kind of like a rockstar Valjean. He just left though to go do the London production of it.

So if anyone's in London and can go see it, do! He's amazing!

Sacrelige I know, but I am not a fan of Les Mis. I think I was just too young when I first saw it back in the late 80s. I know if I saw it again now I'd appreciate it so much more.

Definitely try and see it again, ozchick!

I only discovered the beauty of Les Miz lately, and man, I'd looooove to be a part of this show!!! I'd move heaven and earth to be in a production of this. The music is wonderful. It's one of my favorites.

I was in my high school's production of this. Our sets were actually really amazing. We had a rotating barricade and everything.

As for seeing it, I have only seen the national tour. I would love to see it on Broadway, but tickets are so expensive.

Student Rush!!! $26.50!!!

Student Rush!!! $26.50!!!

Yeah, I should do that.

How much longer is it gonna be on Broadway?

Driveshaft4Dee
10-17-07, 07:15 PM
Well they keep extending the run. It's definitely going to be around til April, since that's when John Owen-Jones' contract is until. Sooo..

Yup. And the cast is about to undergo great changes.

Let's see....
Madame Thernardier is leaving
Cosette is leaving
I forget who else. I just remember my friend saying "all the asians are leaving". Racist show. *sings Ave Q* :rotfl:

Daphne Rubin-Vega isn't Fantine anymore, is she? Because I saw her on YouTube and I thought she was pretty terrible for that part.

Oh dear GOD she was horrible! Lea Salonga is Fantine right now. But she's leaving and the woman who did the voice of Pocahantas is coming to play her. She used to play little Cosette when she was little. So when she was interviewed, she said "I am my own mom." :rotfl:

Hmm, it's hard for me to imagine Lea Salonga as Fantine because I'm so used to hearing her do the part of Eponine. I'm sure she's great, though. She always is.

I would like to see the woman who did the voice of Pocahontas. "Colors of the Wind" is probably my favorite Disney song.

Should find the clip of Sara Ramirez singing that song. ;)

Lea's not so bad as Fantine. A much better sound for our ears than Daphne. :nanabobo:

I just saw that PBS Les Mis again. It was done in the Royal Albert Hall with the London Philharmonic. At the end, Jean Valjeans from all over the world
come in to the theatre along with their country's flag. Each Jean Valjean sings a bit of the song that goes "Will you join in our crusade, etc", each in their own language. I wish we would have Tivoed it because it was the
last time they will be playing it. I am so glad to hear there is an upcoming production at the Walnut St. Theater.

So it closes Jan. in NY and opens in Philly in July. Just summing up :).
I'd be glad to see either.

I bet it still tours the US for many years. Sells too many tickets at local and regional theaters to not. I have seen it 5 times myself. New York, London, and 2 times the national touring, once regional tour. To be honest, they were all quite awesome as it is more of an emotional experience that a vocal experience, like say, a Phantom. But best was New York for sure. Even better than London.

Do you know who the cast was when you saw it in NY, Lawboy? :)

Frecklestoo

I looooooovvvvvvvve Les Mis!!! I was pregnant when I saw it on Broadway so I was rather hormonal...the EMOTION of that show is just amazing. I've been listening to the CD in my car the past few days and I just LOVE the music. It's definitely one of my favorite shows.:)

Annie

Ditto Freckles, except the pregnancy :). Even when I saw Michelle Kwan skate to the music from Les Mis, I became emotional. There is just something about that show and the music. It's my favorite.

Not that I haven't totally enjoyed every theatrical production I have seen (all in Phila. or on Broadway). You wouldn't believe the shows we get here. The production of Chorus Line here was so great I saw it four times. We just caught The Phantom in NY with the cast that brought it to be the longest running show on Broadway. It was wonderful.

I was so glad to hear Les Mis is coming here in July. Thanks to Cindy for passsing that on.

There's something about the music of Les Mis that gets you pumped up. There was a time when it was my pre-workout music. ;)

The recent revival - I thought - was fabulous. Then again, I'm biased. I know too many actors in the show.

And I'd actually known the previous Jean Valjean - Drew Sarich - since 2005. He's in London now, and John Owen Jones took his place.

Aww. In NYC!?

Yep! :) We went the weekend before New Year's. I was kinda mad, though, because we called the box office and asked if they do student rush for all performances, and they said yes. But when we went there, they said they weren't doing student rush that day. So we had to do standing room. :rolleyez: I'm glad the theater isn't that big, because we didn't have any trouble seeing anything.

Anyway, Judy Kuhn (Fantine) and John Owen Jones were fantastic. The Thenardiers were great, too.

Driveshaft4Dee
01-10-08, 03:45 AM
Gary Beach and Ann Harada were the Thernardiers, still, right??

Awwww. I wanted to see JOJ and Judy too...Damn. Well I'm glad you had a great time and got to see it before it closed. =)

I didn't see it, but apparently the CBS Early Show was interviewing Susan Boyle, and they had Patti herself on the phone to give a critique of how she performed.
