:yeah:
But I also love the some of the classics. I know the thread is "Composers" but I have to list some of the composer/lyricist combos like R & H and Kander and Ebb. I know a lot of people think Rodgers and Hammerstein are pure schmaltz, but The Carousel Waltz is one of my favorite pieces of music.

I'm starting to appreciate Rodgers and Hammerstein now. Such lyrical beauty in a lot of their songs.
David Yazbek (The Full Monty and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) is another favorite of mine. I love his sly sense of humor.

Dare I mention Alan Menken? ;)

I can't believe I haven't mentioned William Finn. A New Brain and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee are two of my all-time favorites.
I also love John Buccino, though I wish he'd do a complete show and not just a revue.

I also love William Finn, who's local to me. There's a song in Elegies called "14 Dwight Ave., Natick, Massachusetts" which is about a 15 minute drive from my house.
John Bucchino is writing the score for A Catered Affair, book by Harvey Fierstein, which is previewing in San Diego and is on its way to NYC.

Ooh, goodie. I'll be looking forward to that, then.
Beethoven is one of my favorite composers. I like big music and Beethoven wrote big music. He also wrote the "Moonlight Sonata" which I love. ...

I had the chance to work with Scott Alan this past summer, and his work is awesome. Beautiful, lyrical and some great melodies. He's an up and comer, but definitely worth the look!! Check out his "Dreaming Wide Awake" CD (personal favorite: Home sung by Shoshanna Bean) and his latest is "Keys". Both are on iTunes.
I also had the chance to work with Georgia Stitt (who happens to be married to Jason Robert Brown) and her work is inspiring as well. You can definitely hear JRB's influence on her, but she's a powerhouse in her own right. Check out her "This Ordinary Thursday" CD. Favorites: "I Lay My Armor Down" (sung by Lauren Kennedy, I had the chance to sing it this summer with Georgia accompanying. It was amazing!) "This Ordinary Thursday (sung by Susan Egan) and "She" sung by Cheyenne Jackson and Tituss Burgess.
Another up and comer is Bobby Cronin. Funny guy and some great tunes. Does not have a CD out, but has videos of performances of his work on YouTube. Favorites: Rain, Don't Think...
You can check out all on YouTube.
As for major composers? Sondheim, Jeanine Tesori, Bock & Harnick, and more...

Scott Alan! There was a local version of Monday Nights, New Voices here in the Philippines last year, so I'm a little familiar with his work. :D
