Perhaps one of the reasons we're seeing so many backstories is because we're going to eventually see that the way these characters are connected is that they've somehow appeared in everyone's backstory.
All this talk about Ethan being the same guy as the hallway talking with Jack's dad makes me think that perhaps time is fooling with the show and somehow the pregnant girl who was dead may in fact be Claire...?
I really have no basis or way to argue some of my theories. Every time I come up with a theory, the next week's episode shuts it down, so I'm just leaving options open.

yeah, i have a new theory every week too. there's a common theme with all their stories. it's just hard to find because once you think you hit on something it's inconsistent with another person's backstory. but there is definitely something that connects everyone. right now, i think it's choice. these characters have all made a big choice in their past (to keep the baby, to go against a father, to save a loved one going against country, to learn english to leave a husband but at the last minute decide against it, etc.) there's something existential going on. there are just too many philosophical references in the show to dispute that. i just can't put my finger on the one specific thing.
but you're thinking the right way and it sure is fun :D

Somehow I dont think that that can be true. the reason being, if the pregnant girl is Claire, they didn't look anything alike. The girl who died on the table is brown haired and doesn't have the same facial features. So I don't think that that is the case but I do think that you have a great idea. Somehow it might actually work, just not in the aspect of Claire.

i feel like we are kinda skimming the outer surface of what's really going on...
like we all have a tiny piece of the puzzle right. we've just got to figure out where all the pieces fall together.

Good observation. I do hope it's more than that, though, not because I don't like that concept, but because I feel like there needs to be a physical connection, not just a philosophical one.
A good example of what I'm talking about is the first Mission:Impossible movie, when Ethan Hunt is talking to the guy in the restaraunt after his team had been killed, and discovered that everyone there in the restaraunt was present in the city just hours before, the time that his team was killed. Using flashbacks, he revealed who everyone was, and where he'd seen them before. J.J. could use this concept and take it further, where all these characters could have been in the same place in the same situation at the same time years ago and didn't realize it. Did you notice that Jack's backstory went a little further backward for episode 11? Do you think perhaps we'll see further backstories of the other characters until it comes full circle?
Get what I'm saying, or am I just being way too random.
I agree, I think we've barely got our finger on it, but this show is all about mind games, and that's why we keep coming back! :smokin
