Kim Yun-jin Steals Spotlight in "Lost"

Actress Kim Yun-jin has entered the spotlight recently for her role in the ABC hit miniseries "Lost," captivating the hearts of the American audience with her fluent English skills and a scene where she appears in a bikini.

The Boston Globe, a local newspaper, wrote on May 22 that "Sun", "Kim's" character in "Lost," who had spoken her lines solely in Korean in the early episodes of the drama, began to stand out from the rest of the cast for her extraordinary "inner strength" when she began to speak English in the second part of the series. In her interview with the newspaper, Kim said that since she began speaking English in the series, she has received numerous letters from her fans from all over world, who said they had no idea Sun could speak English.

The newspaper also dubbed Sun, who appeared in a bikini in one episode of the series, "the symbol of self-recovery". In that particular story, Sun, who had lived her entire life obeying her husband Jin-soo (played by Daniel Kim), puts on a bikini one day and transforms into a confident woman who can stand up for her beliefs.

Kim says the scene where her character appears wearing a bikini was a meaningful one. Sun's words -- "I am going to go and take a swim" -- said while dipping her feet into the water, signaled a turning point in the series' storyline.

USA Today has chosen actress Kim Yun-jin as a likely nominee for the Emmy Award. Kim was previously picked as a likely candidate for the same award in June by the U.S. broadcasting magazine, TV Guide. USA Today announced the list of Emmy Award candidates on June 16, choosing Kim as a candidate for the best actress award for her role of Sun in the ABC series Lost.

The newspaper wrote that although either of the series' lead actors - Josh Halloway and Terry O'Quinn - were good enough to be nominated for best actor, it would recommend only Kim for the best actress nomination.

Kim says she was very flattered to hear the news from her U.S. agent, although she says she doesn't expect to win the award.

Lost, which premiered in the United States last September, was a big hit, drawing 18 million viewers on average. Instead of the initially planned 13 episodes, the series was extended to 24 episodes. USA Today and TV Guide also chose Evangeline Lilly and Matthew Fox as the likely candidates for best actress and actor, respectively. Nominees for the Emmy Award will be announced in mid-July, and the award ceremony will be held in September.

Kim, who recently finished the filming of the first season of Lost, has also starred in a Nescafe TV commercial and is currently filming the Korean movie "June Diary." She will once again leave Korea in mid-July to film the second season of "Lost."
