In a recent TVGuide.com Asks (http://community.tvguide.com/blog/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Tvguidecom-Asks/800056941) blog, we gave readers a chance to fire questions at the producers of Heroes (http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/heroes/281246) (Mondays at 9 pm/ET, NBC). Series producers Tim Kring (http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/tim-kring/281427) and Jeph Loeb, as well as several of the show's stars, share their insights. Will Mohinder ever have a power?
Not likely. "He's Mr. Science and was conceived to be the one guy in this vortex who does not have special abilities," creator/executive producer Tim Kring says. "We have no plans to change that." That's fine with Sendhil Ramamurthy (http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/sendhil-ramamurthy/281290): "I'd be sorely disappointed if I got a power at this point — it would just be weird. But I wouldn't mind turning out to be the puppet master of this whole thing." By the way, anyone arguing that Mohinder technically does have a power in that his body carries the antibodies to the Shanti virus won't get very far with Kring. "That's still a scientific thing, not a special ability," he insists. "If it were a power, then there'd be a lot of heroes out there in our world."
Will Hana (Stana Katic (http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/stana-katic/271046)) ever be seen again? What about Claude (Christopher Eccleston (http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/christopher-eccleston/144764))?
Though Israeli freedom fighter Hana died in outer space in a Heroes graphic novel last spring, her consciousness survives. "We will see her again on the show at some point," promises co-executive producer Jeph Loeb. But invisible man Claude? That's trickier. "We wanted Christopher back this season because he's so integrated into the mythology of our show, not only because he was Peter's mentor but also because of his connection to HRG," says Kring. "But it probably won't work because of his schedule — he's too in demand." Cracks Loeb, "Hopefully we can get him back by Season 7!"
Why didn't Isaac warn HRG about the painting that predicted his death?
A few possible reasons. "Isaac was in a drug-addled fugue state when he created his paintings," Kring says. "There could also be a moral dilemma in telling someone they're going to die. If you had the ability to know the circumstances of your death, would you want that information?" Loeb tosses us another option: "If you go back and look at Isaac's last day, there is an implication that he painted a lot more that day. This is a device we may return to. There may be even more Isaac paintings out there."
What the hell is Niki's power, anyway?
This had the execs a little touchy, but TV Guide got tons o' questions on the subject, so here goes: "We thought this was very clear on the air," Loeb says. "Niki's power is the same as her alternate personality Jessica's: unbelievable strength. They're the same person. Niki discovered her special ability through her split personality, but it was always her ability."
It's kind of weird that two single straight guys, Mohinder and Matt, are in charge of little Molly. Is this arrangement legal?
"In reality, no one has talked about adoption or legal custody," admits Loeb. "The opportunity to do our version of My Two Dads (http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/dads/203322) was too delightful to deal with details." Actor Jack Coleman (http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/jack-coleman/154868) (HRG) also weighed in here, noting that this isn't the first no-hassle kiddie custody on Heroes. "There's nothing official about HRG's adoption of Claire," he says. "Kaito [George Takei (http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/george-takei/151753)] simply handed her to me on a roof. We're not really concerned much with legalities on Heroes, you know. We take liberties with reality. Here's another spoiler: People can't fly."
Why so many new characters this season?
"Heroes is like a shark — it's got to keep moving," Kring insists. "If this world becomes too insular — if it's only about the characters we've gotten used to — then we lose the sense of wonderment that this phenomenon is happening in many places." Loeb reminds us that several of the old favorites — Peter, Claire, Niki, Micah, Matt, Sylar — in essence started over this season "and that required new locales and new characters for them to interact with. And the new powers are fun for the audience to watch." Those who are crabbing about too many newbies "should be patient," Loeb says. "They haven't gotten to the Dec. 3 episode, when we do our big housecleaning!"

Hayden Pannettiere

Warning: Don't read this story until you watch the Nov. 5 episode of Heroes!

The gulls are soaring, the waves are splashing softly on the rocks, and the morning sun is perfect for basking, but this is no idyllic day at the seashore. A six-pack of actors from Heroes — Hayden Panettiere (Claire), Kristen Bell (Elle), Nick D'Agosto (West), Stephen Tobolowsky (Bob), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder) and Jack Coleman (HRG) — has gathered on the beach in San Pedro, California, to film a confrontation scene that could end in a prophesied tragedy. Viewers have known for weeks that the clock is ticking on HRG (aka Noah Bennet) — one of Isaac's paintings shows him lying dead with a bullet hole through his famed horn-rimmed glasses — but will Claire Bear's daddy really get whacked?

"Every painting we've had on Heroes has come true," says the show's creator, Tim Kring. "But don't forget, sometimes the true meaning of a painting has been misinterpreted." Case in point: When Isaac painted Hiro (Masi Oka) raising his sword to a T. rex, the teleporting fanboy hadn't really gone back in time — he'd merely gone to a museum. But make no mistake: This episode, "Cautionary Tales" (airing Nov. 19), involves a very real showdown, with gunfire and tears.

"The Company has come back to haunt HRG by going after Claire, and this is all about what a father is willing to do about the mess he's created," Kring says. Coleman adds that his character is doubly freaked by the painting "because it shows him dead and it looks like Claire is standing near his body kissing a young man who's in shadow. It makes his daughter seem complicit in his death." Is the young man West, who was once traumatically "bagged and tagged" by HRG as part of the Company's tracking system? Does he become the killer? Or will one of the other characters on this beach do the dirty deed?

Naturally, the stars aren't talking. Not about that, anyway. In between takes, blonde hotties Panettiere and Bell grab iced coffees, find some shade and engage in a little verbal bitch-slapping — all in jest, of course. "This is the first time Claire and Elle are in a scene together," explains Panettiere. "Claire just shoots Elle a nasty glare — and, trust me, it didn't require much acting." Bell shrugs and counters, "That's OK. There's a scene later on where I get to zap the hell out of her with my lightning bolts." Panettiere rolls her eyes and drops some scoop. "Puh-leeze, she misses me and hits West," she says. "Then he passes out on top of me and crushes me. What a gentleman." Clearly pals, they squeal with laughter, but Bell can't resist playing her trump card. "Just wait," she says. "You'll find out that Elle holds the key to Claire's future."

Remainder of article:

D'Agosto says this episode marks "the first time West and HRG have a clash. HRG is furious, and his intention is to find West and keep him from being with Claire." The actor adds that he's only signed with the show for half a season and claims, "I have no idea what happens after that. It's a mystery."

There are a lot of those on Heroes, but some big ones will be solved in the November 12 episode, "Four Months Ago." That's when we finally see what happened after Peter and Nathan flew up in the sky and went nuclear in last May's season finale. We find out how they both survived the explosion, " says co-executive producer Jeph Loeb. "We also learn how Peter wound up half-naked with amnesia in a box in Ireland and why Nathan--who keeps seeing his [post-radiation] monster face in the mirror--now looks normal." Will the boozing, guilt-racked Nathan, who has abandoned his hopes for the White House, ever get his act together? "He's been through the proverbial fire and paid a terrible price, but this could strengthen his political backbone," Pasdar says. "When all the plot pieces come together, I think there will be empathy for Nathan."

Also revealed in that flashback hour: How D.L. actually died--turns out he wasn't killed by Linderman's bullet--and why Niki really made that call to the Company asking for a cure. "We've been led to believe she has the virus," Kring notes, "but we also raise a question about her multiple-personality disorder. Will it return in the form of another personality? Plus, viewers will witness the horrific mass slaughter at a wedding--filmed with 120 extras--that forced twins Maya and Alejandro to go on the lam.

But back to the future. In other upcoming episodes, Matt will use his mind powers to track down the last surviving member of the old-guard heroes (played by Joan Cassidy). Sylar is still trying to regain his powers, with violently messy results. Hiro learns his father was killed by his immortal samurai buddy Takezo Kensei, now known as Adam Monroe, and he will seek revenge. Meanwhile, Peter's girlfriend Caitlin remains stuck one year in the future, where 93% of the planet's population has perished from the mutated virus.

Jeez, a little hope and levity, please! We'll get some when Monica, the delightful muscle mimic played by Dana Davis, becomes the first of the show's heroes to don a superhero costume and fight crime. "She takes on the identity of St. Joan from the 9th Wonders! comic books and becomes a New Orleans media sensation," Davis reports. "I've never had so much fun on a job ever!" Monica can look at any physical action--in real live or TV--and replicate it perfectly. "To learn her moves, she's been watching wrestlers and Olympic athletes, but I think this girl should step up her game," says Davis with a laugh. "She needs to go out there and rent 'The Matrix'!"

Loveriot, thanks for transcribing that... My question is who the hell is Joan Cassidy? Couldn't find a listing on IMDB ... There's a Joanna Cassidy who played one of the replicants in Blade Runner -- could that be who is being referred to? If so, the character is probably the blonde in the founders photo and/or Elle's mom.

My question is, who thought it was a good idea to put one of the Heroes in a costume? Maybe it can be pulled off... but yeah... this might be perhaps the corniest thing since well.... Charmed seasons 3 through whatever.

Although the comment about Caitlin had me curious. Does this mean there is going to be an upcoming episode where we get Caitlin's stand point from the future? I thought she was gone for good.

You're welcome. How did people live before cut and paste? ;)

I believe Joanna Cassidy is correct. I found this article that is practically confirmation:

Sharp-eyed viewers of NBC's Heroes may have noticed several familiar faces in the group photo glimpsed in last week's episode, "The Kindness of Strangers," and creator Tim Kring promised that they will soon show up.

"We will be seeing the people ... in the photo," Kring confirmed during an Oct. 16 conference call with reporters. "I think all of them will be [played by the actors in the photo]. I just have to tell you, the photo has got a life of its own, because, logistically, it was so difficult to actually come up with this photograph that's used now and refers to things that are shot well in the future here. It was very difficult to get that all lined up. But, yes, the photo is as accurate as we can make it."

The photo depicted a character who appeared to be played by Joanna Cassidy (Blade Runner, Six Feet Under). Kring wouldn't confirm her casting, but said: "It did look an awful lot like Joanna Cassidy in there."

Another new character in the photo is the father of Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), and it's the elder Parkman who's the boogeyman in Molly's (Adair Tischler) nightmares.

The photo also featured the by-now familiar faces of Daniel Linderman (Malcolm McDowell), Charles Deveaux (Richard Roundtree), Angela Petrelli (Cristine Rose), Bob (Stephen Tobolowsky) and Kaito Nakamura (George Takei).

With the addition of several new characters so far this season—including Kristen Bell's Elle, who shows up next week—Kring admitted that some characters—even major ones—may not appear in every episode. And some characters will die—perhaps even permanently, Kring acknowledged.

"Yes, on a show like this, you have to be able to fold people in and fold people out," Kring said. "So the audience should fully expect to see characters leaving in the near future." —Ian Spelling
