View Full Version : Sun's Father
The October 27th episode showed us that Sun's father was alive at the time that she was plotting her disappearance.
There is no mention of her father being on the airplane with Sun and Jin. So why would Sun's father's watch be on the plane?
When Sun speaks in English to Michael, she clearly says that the watch is her father's not her husband Jin's. And she says that Jin felt honorbound to fight with Michael over the watch.
So, my question is, is why is Sun's father's watch on the plane with them, and not the father himself? Was the watch perhaps a gift to Jin?
If a gift to Jin, why wasn't he wearing this very expensive watch (Michael calls it a $20,000 watch)? Or what is the significance of Sun's father giving his watch to Jin?

grimme, i seem to be following you around. =)
well, in korean culture, and i think a lot of other cultures, the bride's parents often buy the groom an expensive watch for the wedding present. so instead of buying jin a new watch maybe sun's father gave him one of his? and so it is jin's watch now, but jin still thinks of it as his father-in-law's? though i guess if sun's father is so rich he would've just
bought jin a new one.
and he wasn't wearing it because he doesn't like wearing watches on long flights, it's a pain. =)
anyway, just speculation.

And I you! That's one thing I enjoy about this board, the interaction. I have another question for you and this is probably as good a place as any other to ask it.
"mul-lon" means "of course" in Korean. Could you paste or tell me how that is written in Hangul because I'm having trouble finding it in my dictionary (I'm also a little rusty after 25 years!)
Here's what I think: first syllable is the square "m" on top, with the "T" in the middle and then the "R"ish looking character (or the 3rd character in this first syllable might be the "half-square" "N')
Then the second syllable is either the "R"-ish looking character (or the "half-square" "N") on top, with an upside down "T" in the middle and a the "half-square" "N" character on the bottom.
I know there are some other choh-en han-guk nam-ja ha-go yo-ja yo-gi, so also feel free to help me with my han-guk kong-bu. Ko-map-sum-ni-da!!
¹°·Ð = moollohn = of course.
and his watch could have just come undone during the crash (or it could have been in his carryon and just came out).

In reply to your first post: I believe the watch was no more than a wedding present or a gift to either Sun or Jin, not worth looking into.
Or is it? As I have come to find with shows and books like Lost, there are no coincidences. We shall find out I suppose.

Cheesey,
If the watch is indeed "not worth to look into" then what's the explanation for Jin's rage? Sun told Michael (and the audience), that the watch was indeed important. Why do you think otherwise?

I think it is simpily a loyalty symbol, that Jin needed it to feel like he was being loyal to Sun's father.
What I am saying is that I just don't see the watch comming back into play with this show anymore.
I could be wrong, no one knows for sure.
Perhaps Jin has murdered Sun's father. That is the reason he has the watch. Jin didnt tell Sun why he has blood all over his shirt.

in the flashback to Sun waiting outside while Jin talked her father into letting them get married, isn't Sun herself wearing the watch? I thought it was her father's, given to her, and hence Jin felt honorbound to get it back.
