How do you have your steak done?

The better the quality of the meat, the rarer I have it.

Just cripple it and walk it in, thank you. :dinner:

I think that we've had this convo, but...

So long as the cook/restaurant knows what they are doing then give it to me MR, thankee.

I hate steak.

LPU
01-10-08, 01:12 PM
Wha?!

ILoveEko
01-10-08, 01:13 PM
I just... I dunno. Can't stand it. Maybe my mom doesn't cook it well enough for me to like it, I dunno. They had to force me to eat it when I was a kid, I don't even touch it now. It SMELLS good. I just don't like the taste.

Medium with lots of steak/barbecue sauce.

But I'll still take chicken any day of the week unless I am at a Steak House.

ILoveEko
01-10-08, 01:15 PM
Ew. Barbecue sauce.

Ew. Barbecue sauce.

That's un-American. :D

ILoveEko
01-10-08, 01:19 PM
Well whaddya know, I'm un-American.

I'll stick to my beaver tails and poutine, tyvm.

I hate my Canadians un-American.

I had no idea. guess it was just a cosmic coincidence I chose my words in such a manner, eh?

I will however agree that BBQ on steak is an ewwwwwwwww.

Rocky Raccoon
01-10-08, 01:33 PM
Well, for beef I could agree to a MR, but for most other animals I'd take it rare.

ETA: Don't put BBQ sauce on steaks.

Prender
01-10-08, 01:39 PM
The only steaks I won't put it on are Filet Mignon or Prime Rib.

MaxPower
01-10-08, 01:39 PM
Rare. No sauce please.

It personally offends me when someone orders a well done fillet.

I like medium to mid-well. Too much blood makes my stomach kind of sick.

LPU
01-10-08, 01:45 PM
I imagine that makes being one of the undead rather difficult.

Rocky Raccoon
01-10-08, 01:49 PM
There's no blood in brains, stupid.

LPU
01-10-08, 01:51 PM
Zombies aren't the only undead, idjut.

Rocky Raccoon
01-10-08, 01:52 PM
Well what do THEY eat, dummeh?

LPU
01-10-08, 01:53 PM
Which they, artard?

Rocky Raccoon
01-10-08, 01:57 PM
The other undead, dip.

LPU
01-10-08, 01:59 PM
Oh, them. Blood mainly, waterhead.

Rocky Raccoon
01-10-08, 02:01 PM
Well, I guess I see how your original comment was relevant, handy.

I'm not brave enough.

I'll stick to the dimly lit basement, thanks.

Medium rare.

...and if a steak requires any sort of sauce on top of it, then it must be an exceptionally sorry piece of meat.

ETA: I would note that when I say medium rare, I mean medium rare at a place that can properly define, and properly make it... medium rare. Many times at many places it has to be ordered as rare in order to get it what I call medium rare.

01-10-08, 10:37 PM
Well done. I'll eat medium well, but thats only because I'm too lazy to have em cook it more. And I either need alot of seasoning on it, or some kind of steak sauce. :p A1 is good. Then again, I dont eat steak very often. Its not one of my favorites.

ETA - To keep thread continuity, medium-rare most of the time, but it does depend on the cut/quality.

Medwell, and i'm very picky about steak, it has to be really good or it was a waste of my time

Cooked no more than medium rare, but I prefer rare, and have no problem eating raw, which I often do, cutting off a few bites as I prepare it for cooking.

May I ask what the hell is blue?!?!?! It's the first option.

Anywho, I prefer mine medium. And whoever said that sauce doesn't belong on steak is right on. A good steak should be mildly seasoned. If it is really good it shouldn't require any more then salt, pepper and a pinch of garlic.

foxxie
01-13-08, 06:45 PM
I was thinking maybe it meant with blue cheese, but I'm not sure.

Oh..and Medium. I agree with the no sauce, but I do like the butter and garlic they put on them at Ruth Chris. :D

Blue steak is the step below rare in "done-ness" (for lack of a better word). A "blue" steak is very red and cold in the center, while a "rare" steak is red and cool in the center.

BLUE is short for "Black and Blue" which is also known as "Pittsburg"

Basically put a heavy cast iron skillet (like the one I drpooed on my bare feet last week) on the fire--high heat for like 5 minutes. Allow your steak at least a half hour to come up to room temp. Lightly season on both sides .......drop in a pat of butter and then the steak ...immediately. DONT TOUCH IT!!! You just want a hard-fast sear (about 1-2 mins each side) That's it black-n-blue. It's less than rare, but more than raw, if that makes sense. Make sure you have proper ventilation, as this method will smoke out you kitchen in no time.

I have it so rare it's practically still mooing.

Another favorite is to ....."Just walk it thru a warm room."

I remember one time a cutomer was ordering a rare steak and said "Just cut of its horns, wipe its a**, and send it out...

All of the above... As someone stated previously, it depends upon the cut of the meat.

Eat more steak, people!!!

Not much of a steak eater, but when I have to, it's gotta be medium well.

BBQ or A1 is optional.
