View Full Version : New Show for the Top Bar?

As you know, the forum currently features 4 different shows on the top bar: Lost, Heroes, 24, and Battlestar Galactica. Lost and Heroes are definitely staying, and BSG is going to stay for a while, too, since its final season is about to begin.

However, 24's fate is up in the air. The show was having problems even before it was cancelled for this season due to the writer's strike. We are, therefore, considering moving it down into its own section of the Other TV Shows forum. In its place, we would like to replace it with either The Office or Pushing Daisies. But we couldn't decide which one, so we've decided to see what you guys think.

So... The Office? Or Pushing Daisies?

As much as I love The Office, I think Pushing Daisies should go up there. :) It's fresh and innovative, and has such room to grow - and it's section can flourish as the show does. It's own spot at the top may bring some new attention to it and increase discussion.

I'll abstain. I love the Office. but I've never seen PD. Just the hype that it's gotten so far makes me want to see it soon though.

We can discuss that here (http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40639), if you'd like. :D

As much as I'd like to see Daisies, I'm not sure either show would be a good choice.

The shows that should have their own forums are the ones that need the conversation space, IMO. That would be dramas with serialized stories and lots of twists and turns. Lost, BSG, 24, and Heroes all fit the bill nicely. (Okay, I don't watch 24, but presumably...) A sitcom like The Office and a very pleasant but passive viewing experience like Daisies might not be the best opportunities to have myriad long, intricate discussions about.

If Jericho were going to stick around, I might suggest it instead.

I've never seen Daisies. Anyone know if they will be rerunning it from the beginning so I can start it?

The Office is my show but even I don't think it needs to take up more of the forum than it already has. There's just not that much to say other than -- ha ha, that was really really funny.

IF it ever comes back on. :sadwalk:

And then you have to lie.

Don't know if it's being rerun. May still be at ABC online, though.

I just looked. It looks like only the last 2 episodes are there. They were all there at one time because that's how I caught up on the show.

How about "Intelligence"? It's the new show by Chris Haddock, the creator of "Da Vinci's Inquest", it airs on CBC in Canada, may have finished recently, it only has a few fans up there, and probably nobody currently on this board has ever seen it (including myself). But on the plus side, it has a lot of story twists and most likely doesn't have a real fansite anywhere else....

To be considered for the top shelf position, there needs to be a following. Sorry.

Survivor is a show with a long standing track record. It has inspired many other websites, message boards, etc, etc. I think it's a better choice than those listed in the poll.

If this site is truly looking to grow by attracting people who are willing to talk about a given show, then I think trying to attract Survivor viewers might be a better choice. Then again though... so would American Idol but I understand the disdain that many here have for that show.

I suppose however that both of those shows are much too low brow for the overwhelming majority of cerebral types that make up the majority of our membership, so I'll just abstain from actually voting. I would add however that while I love the Office, there really isn't that much to "discuss" about it.

LPU
01-11-08, 09:27 PM
Personally I would really hate having a reality show on the top bar. Any reality show. Anything but a reality show please. Unless it's Celebrity Rehab, of course. But that's just my opinion.

I smell sarcasm.

I just watch Daisies because Chi McBride is hawt. ;)

Warthawg1

I am not being sarcastic.

The majority of our members came here because of LOST. The type of people who love LOST enough to get into theorizing and online conversation about it are probably not as interested in reality shows as the general population. I would venture a guess that a majority of people here have a lot of negative thoughts about most "reality" television. So while reality television claims huge numbers of viewers across the land; I doubt they will ever really be that popular here.

I think LPU's post above pretty much sums it up.

LPU

Warthawg1

I think what I said was fair and accurate. This is more of a niche type message board, and the niche isn't reality TV.

Nah, I'm just playing. You're right of course. I have an unreasonable dislike of most reality shows. Not really sure why I never got into the really big ones, because I do like a few: Celebrity Rehab, Biggest Loser, TUF, Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares. On a pessimistic note, with the seemingly never-ending strike, we won't have much in the way of scripted television to discuss. Reality shows will be the only new thing.
