Ack, I can't believe I'm the first one!
This episode is so sad. So much happens, but I'm so touched by Charlie saying goodbye and making peace with his life. When I first watched I was prompted to think of my own "greatest hits" list.
I love that Alex has doubts, and can't wait for her to meet Rousseau.
Plus, there was a Bernard and Rose and even Vincent sighting!
No Sawyer nicknames. :(
No Sawyer nicknames.
Thats 2 weeks now, Ozchick ! I hope he's not going to stay in his dark phase for too long.

He wasn't in much of this one, so I'm going to chalk it up to that. :p
Its hard to keep a good Sawyer down ! He'll pick himself back up !
OMG. Sad episode. It was difficult to watch it again, wasn't it? There were so many heart breakig scenes, I can't even pick one in particular out. Although, Charlie saying good-bye to Hurley was pretty hard to take, not to mention Claire and Aaron.
Charlie reliving his greatest moments made me kind of think about it too, Ozchick. Memories are all we have in the end. Luckily, I have a lot of good ones to choose from.
Poor Desmond is tormented by the visions and the burden of the flashes. He seems so tortured. He was going to try to change it anyway by taking Charlie's place even though clearly; knew he wasn't supposed to.
Anyway, phenomenal acting all around and the scenery was incredible.
Memories are all we have in the end. Luckily, I have a lot of good ones to choose from.
:yeah: Never allow your bad memories to outshine your good ones.
I agree, Badger. (Sorry!) LOL
I agreed with YOU. I can do that. :D We just can't have everyone agreeing with everyone else all the time as that would be counterproductive. ;)
True statement, but unfortunately; I agree with that one too. ;)
I noticed A few Lost do-overs in this episode. The Greatest Hits in the title,
you would initially believe, to be from Charlie's music. The heartfelt
greatest hits are the high points of his life. Desmond again gets hit with an oar. He was hit accidentally in Flashes when he tried to save the bartender.
We again see Nadia with one of the Losties. The first time with Locke and
now with Charlie.
I noticed when Liam gave Charlie the ring, he said you will be the one who
will have a wife and children. It turns out to be just the opposite.
It seems that many of the losties have special possessions. Kate has
the toy plane, Sawyer had his letter. Desmond has the picture
and the Dicken's book. Echo had his brother's cross. Ben has his doll
that Annie made for him. Charlie has his ring.
In the last two episodes, two special possessions have been taken/given up
by the losties. Cooper took Sawyer's letter and ripped it
to shreds. Desmond gave Aaron his ring, but I don't know if Claire took it
along with them.
I believe we see one instance that may support the time-loop theory in this episode. The fact that the code was programmed by a musician could possibly indicate that musician was Charlie, in a previous loop.
Most importantly, I think this was fitting tribute and send off for Charlie's
character.

I hope this is the right episode. I noticed that Juliet was supposed to be placing white rocks by the tents while everyone else was going to the Black Rock.
I liked how Naomi said that they released a CD of Driveshaft's Greatest Hits....didn't Driveshaft only produce one CD?
...and only have one 'hit'?

(Thanks the Lord for small mercies !) :rolleyez:
I found this episode really sad, and I wasn't a big Charlie fan, but I didn't hate him.
His list of memories, particularly meeting Claire, was sad. How hard would it be to know that you were going to die, specially after Liam had predicted that Charlie would be the one to have a wife and kids. In a way that almost came true - Liam didn't say for how long.
Jack finally decides to spill the beans about the plan to kidnap the pregnant women.
I was surprised that Danielle would co-operate with Jack to get the dynamite, Sayid maybe - but Jack ? And she bumped into Locke in the Black Rock while he was whittling outside the room waiting for Sawyer to do his dirty work for him. Then Sayid takes the initiative and goes to Jack to let him know that Rousseau's distress signal is interfering with the SAT phone. Juliet says Ben has all the signals blocked from the Looking Glass.
Desmond's latest vision is seeing a helicopter picking up Claire and Aaron, but reinforces to Charlie that he has to die. When Charlie hears Sayid, Jack and Juliet discusing the LG problem, he instantly volunteers.
Sayid again gives Jack a metaphorical kick up the ass - if you want to be a leader - lead ! Off to the radio tower.
Karl and Alex repay their debt to Sawyer and Kate by warning them about Ben's plans.
So sad to see Charlie saying "goodbye" to Claire and Aaron, and leaving the DS ring in Aaron's crib. Hurley and Charlie's farewell was sad. Hurley is told he is too big to go in the boat with Desmond and Charlie. We're going to see that again soon. Why does Demond's head attract oars ?! This was another forewarning I guess.
Damn, you're mean! :sadwalk: ;) You don't know what you're missing. :music:
:musik29: <<--That's me in the middle. Lead vocal. :D

I liked how Naomi said that they released a CD of Driveshaft's Greatest Hits....didn't Driveshaft only produce one CD?
They've produced at least 2 CDs, 3 if Find 815 is considered.
Driveshaft - Their self titled debut album
Oil Change - Referred to by Locke in Season 1
Live in Jakarta - This was a clue in the Find 815 game
And they only had 1 hit out of all three CDs, so I'm not sure how they could do an entire album with that.
Thanks Cranky. I forgot about 'Oil Change' LOL.
I think you mean Thanks, Its Vanilla!
This was sad. I can't believe the rewatch is over and more importantly, S4 is about to start! It was harder watching this knowing how Charlie dies and that he does in fact die. Now I miss him!
I think you mean Thanks, Its Vanilla!
Dammit. You're right! Sorry Its Vanilla.
You may need some re-watch practice. ;)

I found this EP a little annoying, maybe it was because no-one layed the smack down on Jack for being a self centered egotistical arrogant whiney little ****!
There never seems to be any consequences for Jack, well, not yet :D
I really do hate him, mostly, wierd.
Maybe im being harsh, the bits with Ben, Richard, Niomi, were awesome, and guest appearence by Nadia, awesome.
Filler, though the ending was magnificent, seems obvious now but at the time when those 2 ladies appeared it was brilliant and unexpected.
Either 6/10 or 9/10. Guess it depends what mood i'm in :ImLost:
I agree with the bit about Jack, ACS. He has become so arrogant and pig-headed and its interesting that so many of the Losties are beginning to wake up to his devious behaviour. First of all it was Sawyer and Sayid, and now we see Charlie and Hurley beginning to doubt his integrity, in fact nearly all of them. But Kate, for some reason, after he has treated her like crap, is still his faithful little puppy dog, and even then he still puts Juliet first.
I think the tree blowing up incident was probably the highlight of the episode (the burning bush). And didn't he look pleased with himself - even Danielle looked a little bemused !
I too can't understand why nobody took him in hand and told him to get real and have a good long hard look at himself. There are some very clever minds on that island, and Jack's is not one of them. He is way too emotional and self absorbed.
Anyway thats all for now - I am working my way through !

I doubt very much that this is written into any character profiles, but you just don't mess with a doctor, cause you never know when your gonna need them.
Have i mentioned this before?
Same with chefs, never mess, as you don't always know what your getting on your plate hehe.
Anyways, yeah, Doctor, surely the only feasable awnser to the spoilt brat not getting seriously berated?
(lmao at Dannielles look at his tree explosion, never occured to me till you mentioned it lol)
I say never mess with a butcher ever, ever, did I mention ever?
I love this episode. I'm still behind.
It was good to see Sayid standing up to Jack, querying his decisions, forcing the issue.
I used to think what a waste of Charlie's life, but now I wonder. Maybe it wasn't a case of it was all for nothing. After all everything happens for a reason. The freighter may not have been Penny's boat, but Desmond did reunite with Penny eventually. However this is more of a discussion for TTLG.
But this epi was good closure for Charlie - he tied up his loose ends, he went to face his fate bravely and with dignity, and to the best of his knowledge Claire and Aaron were saved. I wonder what happened to the DS ring.
Karl running to the beach to warn the Losties was great. And the fact that Sawyer stood up for him and told Sayid he had helped him and Kate to escape. A few weeks ago Sawyer would have probably just ignored him !
I cn see your point about needing a doctor ACS ! Lets face it Sawyer and Sayid have both benefitted from Jack's tender ministrations in the past !
I liked Jack's insistence that they had asked him to be the leader, so why didn't they just let him lead ? Possibly because you're leading them in the wrong direction, Jack ? Besides its not a crime to ask for someone else's opinion.

I never fully appreciated this episode the first time I saw it. I think part of the reason why has to do with it following homeruns like The Brig and The Man Behind the Curtain – granted, those are tough acts to follow. After another rewatch, though, I changed my mind. This episode gives us an opportunity to say goodbye to Charlie (unless you didn’t like him) by showing the best moments of his life in a really touching way. Knowing that he was going to his death and knowing that he knew he would be going to his death made his actions very poignant. Although it isn’t the best episode of LOST by far, it’s still good to see – the calm before the storm, as it were.
The Losties were taking a chance trekking out into the jungle with Jack in the lead. If he had been turned, the Others could’ve sprung a trap on them. A lot of fans understandably were a bit put off at how quickly the Losties seemed to trust Jack’s leadership when only an episode ago, they were questioning his loyalties. To us, it looks like the Losties made a huge leap (the last thing we heard from Jack was, “Because I hadn’t decided what to do about it yet…” which understandably doesn’t inspire trust or confidence), but if TPTB would’ve shown us more conversation from the previous night, they could have made Jack’s restored trust more believable.
Blowing up the tree was one of the nuttiest things Jack has done to date. First of all, what did that poor tree ever do to Jack? Secondly, if the Others were anywhere near that area of the Island, they would have known the Losties were playing with dynamite and that might’ve ruined the element of surprise. It was a very cocky thing to do and the way he explained his plan was cocky, as well. That said, the use of dynamite actually was a pretty good plan – aside from blowing up that tree. :rolleyez:
Oh no, “You All Everybody” on the radio! Parents, keep your daughters inside for this one! :nanabobo:
Naomi to Charlie: “You’re the dead rock star.” – Interesting line that caught my eye. Charlie isn’t dead yet, so this serves as foreshadowing. We also see Charlie again in The Beginning of the End when he claims to be “dead, but here.” Was this a very subtle hint as to both Charlie’s fate and his eventual state of being?
Ben told Juliet about The Looking Glass and the signal jamming. He really set himself up for failure trusting her after all the crappy things he did. Sometimes it seems like Ben manipulated Juliet purposely onto the Lostie’s side. Yet it was against his best interest for her to tell the Losties about The Looking Glass and he seemed genuinely surprised that she betrayed him after the beach raid was foiled.
Desmond: “What I saw Charlie, was…Claire and her baby get into a helicopter, a helicopter that…that lifts off, leaves this Island.” – The great debate about this line of dialogue is still ongoing. Did Desmond really see this? If he did, he was almost surely misled by the flashes like he was seemingly misled to think Penny was parachuting onto the Island back in Catch 22. That would suggest a greater power – such as MiB – is orchestrating these visions and perhaps even the dreams many characters have had on this show. On the other hand, Desmond might’ve lied to Charlie because of his own selfish desires to escape the Island; maybe he thought if he could get Charlie invested in this latest death, he could ensure his own rescue from the Island. I would hate for this possibility to turn out to be true, though. People may say Desmond’s a coward, but he’s done some very brave things during the time we’ve seen him, and I wouldn’t want to think of him as being so selfish that he would lie to Charlie and sacrifice him. The third possibility I came up with was maybe Desmond saw an alternate timeline which didn’t occur due to whatever changes were made in the events we’re familiar with. The answer to this puzzling question must be addressed in Season Six, otherwise it will be a gaping continuity blip. :hammersel
Charlie claimed that he didn’t swim back in Season One. That’s not the same thing as saying you can’t swim. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you want to do it. This episode reveals young Charlie’s fears of water and a surprisingly positive outcome between father and son. Charlie will have to face his fear once again at the end of the episode on his swim down to The Looking Glass.
Rose and Bernard! Yay! They were so underused in Season Three, but it's nice they were brought back for the last few episodes. :D
Ben to Alex: “Here’s your gun back.” – Yikes, I’m very glad that tone of voice wasn’t directed at me. :yikes:
Ben told Richard that Jacob wanted [the women to be taken] now. How in the world does Ben think he’ll get away with telling Richard (the only person who’s allegedly seen Jacob) what Jacob wants? Richard would know better, so I wonder if he’s playing along with Ben for some reason…perhaps Ben purposely told Richard that Jacob wanted the women taken in front of the Others so Richard would be forced to go along with it…perhaps the Others truly believe Ben is the only one who can see Jacob and Richard is unwilling to refute it. Maybe Richard wants the leader, no matter who it is, to appear to be in a powerful position even though it is really only Richard who reports directly to Jacob. Mostly, I’m still trying to wrap my head around this, though, because it doesn’t make sense. This may just be a continuity error due in large part to TPTB not really knowing who/what Jacob and Richard were at this point. :ImLost:
The look on Hurley’s and Sayid’s faces was priceless when Karl pulled out his gun. :rotfl:
Liam passed the DS ring on to Charlie, who he thought would get married and have kids and ironically it turns out that Liam was the one who got married and had kids. Liam also thought he wouldn’t live past thirty and it was really Charlie who wouldn’t live past thirty. What Liam described for Charlie was actually his own future.
To keep with tradition, Charlie passed the DS ring on to Aaron (who he considered his family), but tragically, Claire never noticed it in the crib when she left her tent at the end of the episode. The ring won’t be seen again until much later, during The Incident, by Sun while she is with the Others. That made me happy that they showed it again; I was beginning to think TPTB had forgotten about it.
Notice how Desmond was conspicuously absent from Charlie’s flashback to when he was singing “Wonderwall” on the street corner. Now, one could argue that this was an entirely different day than the one we saw Desmond experience in Flashes Before Your Eyes and it would be a perfectly valid argument. We hear Charlie singing and then rain suddenly gushes from the sky. England is known to have many periods of rain, so that decreases the likelihood that it’s the same day. The other hole in this rather intriguing idea is Charlie’s shirt being different between both flashbacks. But if it’s supposed to be the same day, we would have just seen the original version of that timeline before Desmond consciously time traveled in Flashes and approached Charlie. :hmm:
Nadia to Charlie: “You are a hero, sir, and don’t let anyone tell you differently.” – Being called a hero like that has got to feel really good. :)
Sayid did a good job convincing Jack that if he wanted to call himself the leader, he would have to start acting like one. This kept Jack away from the revenge he wanted to take and on the path to leading the Losties to the radio tower. Moments like this really make you appreciate what a character like Sayid brings to the show. Eko also brought Jack to his senses multiple times in Season Two.
That moment between Hurley and Charlie almost makes me lose it every time. Poor Hurley realized later that Charlie knew he was going to his death and had it confirmed from the horse’s mouth in The Beginning of the End.
The only thing that causes me to doubt the theory that Desmond lied about Claire and the helicopter is when Desmond selflessly offers to swim down to The Looking Glass instead of Charlie. If Desmond lied to Charlie in some selfish desire to escape the Island and reunite with Penny, it seems unlikely, short of crushing guilt, that he would change his mind about sacrificing Charlie. Again, I find it most likely, in light of what we saw at the end of Season Five, that Desmond was manipulated.
Charlie: “What about your girl...Penny?”
Desmond: “What about your girl?”
We got to see Desmond and Charlie at their very best. Desmond was brave to attempt to take Charlie’s place swimming to the station and Charlie was brave to not let Desmond take his place. :thumbs_up
The music in the boat scene was absolutely beautiful. Even if you’re not a Charlie fan, I refuse to believe you didn’t feel anything listening to that music. :tears2:
That’s a great moment with Charlie poised on the boat just before diving into the water. Charlie losing his shoe on the way down was a good metaphor for his upcoming loss. That was very tense when Charlie began running out of air and he still hadn’t found the moon pool. Then, surprise surprise, we find out the station actually isn’t flooded after all!
This was an entertaining episode to watch, though a bit slow compared to preceding episodes; most of the time the penultimate episode simply sets things up anyway. The best moments by far were Charlie’s final interactions with his friends and that scene between Charlie and Desmond right before he swam down to the station. There was some very emotional stuff going on and I thought it was a fitting farewell and tribute to Charlie Pace.
