Don't see her dying. I think she's still on the island, waiting for the O6 to ride back in like the Cavalry and get the rest of them. Maybe she begged Kate to take him with her out of motherly love and thinking it may be his only way off the island.

Regardless, I hate seeing a baby separated from its mama. How sad! This makes me think she is dead- couldn't they kill someone else off this season instead?

Perhaps TPTB have no intention of killing Claire. If she is somehow stuck on island, separated from her son, that could create an even more compelling reason for Jack and Hurley to feel the need to go back to the island. She may be one of the people that Charlie was referring to when he told Hurley at the mental hospital 'They need your help'. There are any number of reasons that Claire could be alive but not with Aaron - she could have sent him with Kate on the first run off the island, anticipating that she would be on a second run that never happens. More likely, whoever helps the Oceanic 6 get off the island seems to have made them promise to lie, and may also have prevented the remaining losties from getting off the island. Claire may have made a deal that she would stay but Aaron would be rescued.

Also, if Claire is still alive on the island, that may explain Kate's reluctance to listen to Jack's pleas that they 'have to go back'. After the rescue, maybe she becomes terribly attached to Aaron and cannot bear the thought of losing him, as would probably happen if Claire were eventually rescued from the island.

Or maybe Claire is dead. But even then, does that mean she is dead-dead, Christian-Shepherd-dead-except-when-wearing-magic-sneakers, or Mikhail-na-na-na-you-can't-kill-me-dead?

Certainly seemed that she was in hot water in this episode. How many scenes were there where she was asked to go away while someone had to talk someone else "alone"?

I'm reminded of a quote from Chuck Palahniuk's book Invisible Monsters

"God watches us the way we watch TV. All god does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring."

You could exchange God for TPTB in that quote and you'd have the deaths of about 3 or 5 characters.

I posted this in the Eggtown thread, but remember that Claire was originally planning on giving the baby up for adoption, so maybe she agreed to let Kate adopt Aaron (although I can't imagine why). So Claire could still be one of the Oceanic 6, but gave up Aaron (unlikely I know, but plausible)

I have a theroy,

Something really bad happens on the Island, like it gets gassed or something (Thus why daniel had that mask.) Something happens to Claire, and she leaves Aaron behind. Kate, thinks Claire is dead and see's rescue. Kate takes Aaron assuming she's dead and gets on the helicopter.

Claire is unable to get off the Island, due to the chip Ben implanted in her. Kate will go back to the Island and give aaron back to Claire, Claire will let Kate be the godmother.


And they all live happily ever after.
