View Full Version : So I guess Claire is over Charlie?

I know in our minds it seems like Charlie died several months ago, but in LOST time, Claire just found out a few days ago. Tonight, she was out sipping coffee with Kate and laughing while she hangs laundry. Seems like she's over Charlie pretty quick.

I'd like to see TPTB be a little more realistic in respect to things such as this.

Thank you. That is all.

Yeah I see what you mean. But then again, we saw what happened with Sayid when they tried to make a character grieve for a "realistic" amount of time.

Yuck

Refresh my memory. What happened?

I thought Claire seemed a little too chipper, too.

For sure we know now that she'll never get her note from Charlie or the ring.

He moped around in the background for a season, digging holes and cracking coconuts and building tables.

But I agree about Claire.

Yes, true, BUT only a few days ago Claire made the decision not to leave the island with her baby solely because of Charlie's dying words. He must have been pretty important to her.

Maybe she's just repressing everything.

I change my mind. Charlie was a baby stealin', no good, drug takin', one-hit-wonder! Claire should feel lucky to rid herself and her baby of such trash!!!

Although, now the baby is being raised by a murderer.............

Give poor Claire a break, folks. We all grieve in our own ways, and in the meantime, baby diapers don't wash themselves. Claire of all people knows life must go on.

I was really angry after watching Claire this week. Maybe it's bad writing or bad acting on her part....

Charlie's death was so traumatic. He sacrtificed himself for her... She's hanging out drinking coffee and hanging laundry.. gee, she could have had puffy eyes or at least mentioned him. But somehow she's always gorgeous with full make up.. looks like she has been using a hair straightener..
And where is the letter, the ring.. I miss Charlie, and I don't care if Claire dies...

She doesn't have to mope/become Sayid for a season. But, one episode of her showing emotion would have seemed more real. Even if that just means 2 days island time, just to show the viewer that she was affected. I mean he died doing something that he thought would save her.

I agree. If I can be upset about Charlie dying, then dangit, so can Claire! You would thing she would act a bit down in the dumps about it, they did have a bond. Maybe Locke put happy medicine in the coffee?? That way he keeps everyone agreeable to his ideas?

Well, lol, we all "knew" Charlie for 4 years...Claire only did for 100+days ;) :p

And lol, I wouldn't put anything past Locke.

Some people grieve differently. They may be doing the opposite with her. Have her being all smiles to then break down in a few episodes. We don't really know.

1. People die all the time on that island... there is simply not enough time to greive...

2. when my father died i was as happy and cheerful as usally alreade the next day...

So... not to far fetched... would we realy appreciate if we where shown 30 minutes claire-crying in the latest ep.?

Claire's scenes do have a tendency to be deleted. She has so many scenes after all. The grieving will probably all be on the DVD

On that one, I will blame writers, not Claire....If you see what I mean.
But have a look from Claire POV. Two days after Charlie's death, she gets a brand new home, a washmachine, a drip coffee maker, some kind of security, which is a feeling she certainly miss a lot from the crash...I can understand she is "cool" for the first time since long months...

It`s true people handle their grief differently. I had a teacher who was back to school teaching the day after his wife died. We could`nt believe he came back so soon. He said that sitting at home only made it worse he needed to escape and bury his head at work. Mind you he left at the end of the school year and never came back.

Claire might still grieve Charlie`s death, it may have not really hit her yet.

My Dad died 20 years ago. On the way to the funeral, we were telling Dad jokes and even cracking the limo driver up. Then again, to this day, there are days I cry bitterly for that loss. No, I'm not over it. But I am human, with all the quirks and foibles of humanity.

I think the joy of having a cloth covering for Aaron's bottom superseded the pain of her loss.

What was she using for diapers before arriving at the village?!

Poor old Charlie kicks the bucket and do we see Claire (his significant other for 3 seasons) even shed a tear?

Its like...crikey Charlie`s dead...oh well.. .. put one less shrimp on the barbie and its time to feed the baby.

Thats Aussie chicks for ya! I should know.

Part of me thinks that Claire knows Charlie is actually ok. This is why he's actually in that scene with Hurley in the yard at the nuthouse.

This ties in with a theory I have the the Oceanic Six are actually people who are separate from the rest of the Losties. Probably all the other Losties are actually either Dharma or Others working undercover.

Well, I'm glad she's not overly hurt about Charlie. I know people who have been depressed after just having a baby. Its not good for the baby to not get enough attention which it truly needs.

People handle deaths in many ways. She could be in Denial. But for her, the main focus has always been her baby, and not Charlie.

I`m in the same boat here, I lost my dad years ago as well. We told so many stories and laughed that day. When we came out of the church there was a huge crack of lightning. My aunt at that point yelled out " your dad just took over heaven!!!"

I'm with you chi, the scene is either on the cutting room floor and we'll see it when the DVD comes out.....Dang, I just saw how Kate's wrists got all those mysterious sores.

Anywho, the first few episodes this season haven't shown her much. Now that we ended with Kate and Aaron, maybe Claire will have some more meaty scenes these next few weeks. Who knows, she might come across the ring and letter and here come Niagra falls.

Even grieving people can laugh once in a while. Been there, done that. She has to go on with her life somehow. There's been enough tragedy on the island for several lifetimes. Claire probably cries at night.

When I was watching eggtown- I said aloud "Man she got over Charlie quickly!" And I thought she was being pretty calous.

Yet- when I think about it- no one ever really sees me cry. I cry in the shower... which conveniently they now have in their new deluxe villa island accomodations. So it isn't that unreasonable I guess.

I agree we may see some more waterworks as bonus features later, or maybe she will indeed suddenly SNAP in the next coming episodes. If they want the moment to be true to life, I suggest she snaps because of something mundane- like turning all of the laundry pink. Or maybe Locke will offer her a peanut butter sandwich.

Totally agree with your last sentence. She never seemed to be really ga ga over Charlie. He was always playing dad for her and she liked that, but emotionally I've had more love from my cat, than she had for Charlie..
just my opinion

Hurely seemed more emotionally attached to Charlie than Claire did. He did enough blubbering for the both of them.

Sayid was an emotional basketcase after Shannon's death and knew her less time than Claire knew Charlie. Perhaps they are just trying to move the storyline along further faster. Still, all smiles and giggles at Casa Claire did seem out of sync with the storyline.

I like the way Jorge Garcia answered this over at The Fuselage:

Q: In this fourth episode we see Claire and Hurley (although Claire in particular) joking around and having a good time. As well I as I can figure this is at most two days after Charlie's death. Is that due to the necessity of making a 16--er--13 episode season or do they just deal with grief differently? After all, we saw Hurley at Libby's grave tons of episodes after she died. Maybe it's just that these characters grieve offscreen, but Claire is my favorite character and I almost feel like the responses to Charlie's death were shortchanged.

Well that and it's a TV show and no one wants to see episode after episode of grief.
And with all that's going on in their world, to quote Jessie Ventura in Predator, "They ain't got time to bleed."
