Episode Description:

Juliet is forced to reveal some startling news to Jin when Sun threatens to move to Locke's camp. Meanwhile, Sayid and Desmond begin to get an idea of the freighter crew's mission when they meet the ship's Captain.

Whoever faked the crash didn't know the Oceanic Six had survived when they faked the crash. That means they didn't yet know they were on the island. Assuming it was faked that is.

Note that Sun repeatedly asking for Jin isn't exactly a common behavior for a wife who actually knows her husband is literally dead. Furthermore, the "Oceanic Six" as a term would now be "she's one of the Oceanic Five" if everyone knew that Jin was part of the Six and then he died.

If the tombstone says 9/22/2004, that would mean that Sun's telling everyone Jin died during the crash, which means that Jin either A: dies on island between now and when Sun leaves the island, and Sun just lies about the date of death to correspond with the story everyone's telling, OR B: Jin's not dead at all. He's just on the island and Sun has to pretend he's dead.

Note also that Sun's behavior in going to the tombstone could still make sense even if Jin is alive and on the island. It's a coping mechanism for her. She may even feel more comfortable deceiving herself into believing Jin is dead to relieve the pain of having abandoned him.

It rules out the possibility of Jin dying off-island after the Oceanic Six are rescued and discounts the possibility of Jin being one of the Oceanic Six.
