View Full Version : Time for Charlotte to do something
Besides prevent an island-wide gas attack, I mean. Based on her first appearance--in the desert at the polar bear dig--she seems to know a lot about Dharma. Why was she sent to the island, and what will she find out? In an effort to unearth more polar bears, will she also "uncover" Nikki and Paolo?
I liked Charlotte in "Confirmed Dead" she's like the Tomb Raider or something. She should go traipsing through the jungle more often to uncover stuff. Maybe she'll run into the four-toed statue. That'd be nice.
I wonder what her role was during Faraday's hacking into the system to deactivate the gas or inerting it or whatever. Was her role in the Tempest to be Faradays' back up or security? She seems to have a lot of knowledge and though she stated she has work to do, we haven't seen much from her, yet.

I doubt she will do anything important. The girls never do; except Kate "the love interest".
She will be soon be chilling on the beach doing laundry with Rose and baking cookies with all the other women while the men get all the storylines.

I agree; imo that's why she was "deus ex machina 'd " to the island. She has to explore and tell us things about the island's civilization. Whether she's credible or not when she does, I leave it for the higher powers to decide...

i thought i read somewhere that charlotte's gonna be important at some point. maybe she will shed light onto what the others were digging for at the start of season 3.
i still think there is an underground city of sorts.

Being the boss of Daniel is a job requiring a full-time anthropologist.
Seriously, the only thing I like about the character is the potential of her background to explain stuff about the island, and for someone who skipped a copter ride because she had work to do, she sure doesn't do anything interesting.

So far, Charlotte's arrival has provided little value. She exhibits no redeeming qualities whatsoever. We were led to believe that she had a real purpose and so far all she has done is get into a fight with Juliet.
I have started to groan when she is speaking; I just know that she will be angry, impatient, condescending and rude. The last Lost character that I had that reaction to was Ana-Lucia.

Maybe she is looking for some new and hip fashion trends for Miranda Priestly..she was one of her staffers in the Devil Wears Prada. :nanabobo:

Finding Zorro and 'whatever her name was' sounds interesting. If they still buried that is. Could the writers really be that cruel to have them die in such a claustrofobia situation, with 'whatever her name was' eyes opening at the very last moment? I don't know...
But I'd be dissapointed if we found out they survived tho. I mean, they can't expect from us to believe 2 people on a lost island would just be wanderin around on the island with all these things happening and not getting in touch with the rest anymore..

I thought Charlotte came off as the perfect amoral/enthusiastic social scientist at first. Now her character's in a holding pattern - I agree, let's see her do something soon
Completely agree, I'm afraid she's becoming too much like Shannon/Ana Lucia. We've learned to dislike her, but I think she's a good guy. She's just got her own agenda. Hopefully we'll find out what that is soon.
More potential with Charlotte than Ana Lucia or Shannon. Hopefully the writers will do something with her soon.
(Same for Miles too)

Obviously, TPTB are setting something up with their characters. They just had to show Daniel's part when they did because his story is so closely related to Desmond's and I guess that story had to be told exactly when it was told.
Maybe the other two freighter folk's (Charlotte and Miles) stories will be told alongside another main character's like Daniel's was, or maybe they will have more island time in a future ep. Actually, we could have left them unseen on the freighter, or further in the background until it was closer to their time to shine (like Daniel got to shine during the Des Ep, The Constant).
I guess I can see why Miles is there, he had a bit part with Ben that seemed important.
I guess I'm willing to trust them that they had to intro these characters when they did. But they ought to remember how we reacted to Nikki and Paulo. It is dangerous to introduce new characters without showing us why they are important very quickly.

Jeebus.. give her a break. She's been on the island for what.. two days?
Even the regular characters get less screen time until "their" episode(s) are relevant to the main story.
I think that Charlotte, being an anthropologist (No, not an archaeologist that many assume her to be because of the scene in Tunisia) is there to study Ben's fellow cult members at the Temple and how their little society is structured. This would give an advantage to whomever (Widmore or Hanso) she's employed when it comes time to overtake them. She could also prove a formidibly manipulative and cunning adversary to Ben, especially with extensive knowledge in psychology.
Or TPTB will forgo all intelligent and intriguing storytelling, put her in a bikini and have her mack down on Sawyer to make Kate jealous.

That was kind of the point I was trying to make. I think it would have been better if they would have given her less (precious) screen time, since she hasn't been relevant yet. Personally, I don't want her character wasting serious LOST time by chick-fighting with Juliet, for instance. (Although, I know some of the men thought it was hot. :D )
I mean, if they are going to introduce new characters and make the show more complicated, then they better make these new characters worth while pretty quick.
Hey, its not my fault that Damon & Carlton had a brain fart and wasted everyone's freakin' time with Nikki & Paulo. I'm sorry if I'm a little hard on new characters.
They need to at least make Charlotte 'put up or shut up' by the next episode, IMO.
I neither like or dislike Charlotte at this point. She's a typical Lost character that can't be trusted but who may or may not be basically decent.
Charlotte, Daniel,Frank and Miles are being treated exactly the same way the Originals were when the show began. We see bits and pieces of who they are, good and bad behavior with likable and annoying personally traits. If they follow the pattern, and I hope they do, they will unfold over time just like every other Losties did in the beginning.
To expect them to leap in fully revealed and taking over the story line would ruin the show. In S1 part of the intrigue was learning about the characters week to week, never being sure what thier background would reveal, what they might do next or what they had to bring to the plot.
Because they may hold some answers to the mysteries doesn't mean they shopuld just spill them in a few episodes. In fact although they have skills, knowledge and a few clues but that doesn't mean they know as much at it might seem. I think they'll feel thier way along like everyone else.
I vote for Charlotte to be gone quickly...her voice is like nails on a blackboard...I really don't find her acting to be very good either but then that is me.
I think Charlotte's character has a lot of promise. I like the way they introduced her at the polar bear dig (though it was pretty silly that whoever was in charge of the dig hadn't found the Dharma collar yet). And I like that she's British and pushy and academic. Seems her character can and should be used to get into the history of Dharma and the human history of the island. I just hope they get into it soon because right now she seems pretty one dimensional.

 Another marvelous post by Khan!
I fear TPTB are simply making Charlotte into this seasons AnaL/Nikki-Paulo, just someone annoying for the characters to but heads. In her first flashback they'll redeem her and then kill her. :rolleyez: But, one can always hope...
