I did a search to see if this as been brought up and it came up zip..so apologies if this is been discussed elsewhere in another thread.
We got a good close up of the guy who was in the next bed to Michael, and I did some searches for screencaps and couldn't help notice a similarity to Alvar Hanso.
What do you think?

Great shots! I'm a little confused, though. That is so dead on that it may be too good to be true. Hmm...
IDK -
Where you come across the info that the man in the other pics is Alvar? Is that a TLE reveal?
At first I thought it was Cooper, but I guess not...
Obviously, it is someone important, though -

i rarely pick up on these type things...but i swear i noticed this IMEDIATELY!!
but then i thought... why would such a rich/powerful man not be in a private room....
maybe him and michael should have went off on some "bucket list" tangent...
#1.. exploit magical powers of mysterious island
#2.. sky dive
odd...

Well, it depends on where that hospital bed is located.
Maybe it wasn't just any old hospital.
Maybe it only appeared to be a hospital.
Perhaps it was a facility under the control of Ben, Tom & crew.
Maybe Michael was there.
Maybe Alvar was there.
Under their care.
Who knows. Not sure what I am trying to say.....

Well if it was Alvar Hanso in that coma you know he would have to be time traveling elsewhere.

Has anyone seen Dogma (the movie) where they put God in a coma so she can't do anything but that so she doesn't die cause if she actually died she'd just become God again?
This reminds me a little of that. :D

OMG, yeah I've seen that movie.
I'm kinda thinking that Alvar has been put in this coma, like a prison of sorts. His body is there, but his spirit is on the Island, in the cabin, rockin in his chair..he is Jacob.

Yeah, i think so too...And those jars in the cabin and the grey chalk circle outside it, reminded me of a movie i saw once were the victim was surrounded by certain things that were connected with spells for voodoo, so they couldn't escape (can't remeber the name) so if Alvar/Jacob has been placed in a coma and his spirit has been kept trapped on the Island, i would definatley fit...

How can you not see the resemblence? Up to press that is the only screenshot I could find with him in hospital, but if you rewatch the epi you can definately see the similarity.

I haven't gotten a chance to double check, but when i was watching, I was pretty sure the guy Michael saw in the bed when he dreamt up Libby being there was a different guy than who was really there when he woke up.
Which guy are these screenshots of?
By the way, really liking the Jacob/Hanso thing. Amazing.

No, I checked the episode over and over. The only difference I noticed was.
When Michael saw Libby the guy in the bed had a tube into his mouth. And when Michael really woke to see the nurse, the guy had one of those oxygen face masks on. But it was the same guy.:)

Oooh, thanks. I was so focused on the face I never noticed the monitors, lol.:D
I'll go take a look.
UKLostie
03-24-08, 11:44 PM
Okay I just had another look. When Michael wakes, the monitor he looks at is just by his right shoulder. The vitals look okay. Blood pressure slightly up, but hey he's just had an accident, his pulse is 62/64bpm (normal) and his SPO2 levels are at 98 which is okay.
Then when Libby enters and opens the blankets, Michael yells out, the camera moves out and shows a different monitor, one that takes Blood pressure, Pulse and SPO2 levels (but it is a portable type). If you watch the scene again, you will notice that the portable monitor is towards the middle of the bed on the right of Michael, but you can still see the monitor near his right shoulder, which would be attached to him.
The one near his right shoulder is the same.
I also noticed whilst watching that the first part of Michael waking there is no Christmas tree outside the window in the corridor. But in the 2nd scene there is one. I don't see any importance in this, maybe its just TPTB giving us a game of spot the difference.:rolleyez:
You are correct...I didn't realize there were 2 monitors monitoring the same stuff...when I get my surgeries there is only 1...anyway thanks for checking...I had to go to abc.com to check it...yes about the tree also...now you see it now you don't....same for the roomie's breathing apparatus...I had wondered if he was doing a Desmond :)
When Michael saw Libby the guy in the bed had a tube into his mouth. And when Michael really woke to see the nurse, the guy had one of those oxygen face masks on. But it was the same guy.:)
Yeah, that caught my eye as well. I caught a capture of each "scene" as it were. I wonder if there was a reason for this beyond TPTB trying to tell us it was two different states of Michael being awake? It's one thing to have a piece of tape in a different place in two shots, but two completely different pieces of equipment is just odd.

Cheers Brian. :)
If you look closely at the tube in mouth pic, you will see that the tube is attached to a bottle, filled with a white fluid (or is it just a white bottle).
And the second is just an oxygen mask.
Maybe it is just staged that way to show us Michael in 2 different states of mind. I'm not sure.
TW, can you shed any light on the purpose of the tube/bottle?

Ooooh...This thread's had some interesting developments since i last looked...That tube in his mouth has markings on it too, at first i thought the bottle contained medication, but now I'm wondering if it's a draining tube, to maybe drain fluid/muscus?...In the first screen cap that Brian posted, the oxygen mask is still there, it's hung up to the left of him...Makes me think that rather than showing Michael in two different states of mind, they're showing him at two totally different times...
ETA...Unless by states of mind were talking two different states of conciousness?

A feeding tube would be up the nose right?
I think they go up the nose and down the back of the throat!
RadioDave

I think maybe the opposite.
Someone put him in a coma in RL, trapping him in the time loop.
That seems to make more sense to me. Or to take it one step further:
When Desmond flashed back to 1996, Daniel tells him it was his consciousness that travels, not his physical self.
It's fair to assume Alvar has been to the island before since he put the DHARMA Initiative together.
Now here's where the wild speculation begins...
Alvar somehow develops the ability to "time travel" like Des. Some nefarious group (Widmore/Ben) finds out about it and puts Alvar in the coma and forces his consciousness to travel back to the island to learn about the secrets of the island. His consciousness manifests itself in the form of Jacob and the cabin.
This could also explain how Christian Shepard is up and walking around the island (Most of us believe it was him that Hurley saw in the cabin, and he was seen talking to Vincent in the last episode of Missing Pieces). Maybe Alvar's consciousness found its way into Christian's body?
Thus endeth the wild speculation.

Okay, I'm with it now. Alvar's consciousness is on the island, but Alvar has to somehow stay alive while in that catatonic state (on the mainland.) His consciounsness on the island is Jacob, and he wants to get back to his body, which is why he asked for help. I am totally digging that!

No...the tubes that go up one's nose and down the back of the throat are not feeding tubes...they do the opposite...the pull stuff out...I have had the unfortunate situation of multiple experiences of these dang tubes due to lots of abdominal surgeries over my lifetime and other issues. Good thing this guy isn't awake...the tubes alleviate abdominal pain however they leave you with one hell of a sore throat since they are anchored only with tape around your nose

:awwhug:I hope all is well now.
I am aware of the tubes used for drainage of stomach contents etc. But there is a tube called a Naso-gastric tube (UK, don't know about US) which is used for feeding over the short term.

He said "Minerals". The helicopter was not inverted. And that's not the same guy. "Alvar" has a very distinctive long face and thin straight nose. The old geez on the bed has a shorter face, hooked nose and gin blossoms.

Im loving this theory. Sounds great. Just one question though.
If it was a fake hospital why didn't the nurse know Michael's name? If she was working for Ben or if it was a private facility I'm pretty sure they would have files on Mike.
Was she just faking about not knowing him? Also when Michael got out wouldn't he had realised he wasn't in a hospital.
One other questions, perhaps one of my American buddies can answer since I am Canadian and dont know to much about American health care.
If Mike has no documentation, he obviously has no insurance. Would a hospital even keep him around?
Yeah, i think so too...And those jars in the cabin and the grey chalk circle outside it, reminded me of a movie i saw once were the victim was surrounded by certain things that were connected with spells for voodoo, so they couldn't escape (can't remeber the name) so if Alvar/Jacob has been placed in a coma and his spirit has been kept trapped on the Island, i would definatley fit...
maybe your refering to skeleton key? /threadjack
So I also thought it might be Alvar immedietly too...I like the theory of him being stuck on the island in spirit UKL! I definetly think that is very plausible. I'm inclined to think that Michael wasn't in a regular hospital... with the different monitors and his speedy recovery it makes more sense for him to have been somewhere else. The only other explanation for the time difference is if he traveled back allowing time for him to have healed.
That's not tape on his fake beard. It's bugs, or rain.
(If you don't get that, you haven't been around long enough. And it was bugs or rain).
