There are those of you on this forum who consistently hold a negative attitude towards John Locke. You might find the character interesting, but you think he's stupid, insane, a boob, psychotic, etc. You know who you are. Heck, we all know who you are. :)
It might help if you guys had a central place to vent all this negative energy, like with S.M.A.C.K.J.A.C.K. So, without further ado, this place is my gift to you. The official Locke hate club!
I think it would be nice to have some lively Locke debate in here. However, if the members decide they want to keep the hate content pure and flawless, then us WEBELOs will not bother you. Just let us know what you decide.
Some of you may not fully realize how much you dislike Locke. With that in mind, anyone may nominate anyone else to be a member of this club. However, if you really don't want to be a member, you can refuse membership. I'll keep track of nominees and confirmed members in this first post.
And for the very first member, I would like to nominate a lady I have butted heads with on many a day. Often we have sparred, I don't think I've battled as much over Locke with anyone else on this forum. The queen of the "Lockeblock," I nominate:

Congratulations! :) Sorry Homer, I think sweetsunray disses Locke just a bit more than you do. :D

Uh... I founded the Mock the Locke Society in Season One and have worn it in my signature ever since. Why would I be interested in this Johnny-Come-Lately farce set up by a Locke Lover? :p

So, what's new, I hate to say it, but I kinda disagree :nanabobo: (I do have a tradition to uphold, ya know)
I don't diss him more than Homer, but I end up debating him with you more often, even when it's not originally about Locke. Heck, even when it's not even my intention to debate him. That's not entirely my fault since first of all I've observed you initiate less debate with Homer over it, or debate his posts less, and secondly even when it's not about Locke you end up bringing him up nonetheless. Not that I fault you any of that. I will often respond on what I think is a misrepresentation of Jack, and I often post abut Desmond.
However, that said, I agree that you probably head butted over him with me the most all over the board :p
As for this thread and membership:
- why the name B.R.E.A.K.S. ? What does it stand for?
- although it's nice of you to offer a place for Locke disgruntled people, it's also kinda odd that Locke Lovers can nominate you... Never heard of that in other character "hate" threads. Of course if this is not a nomination to a "hate" thread, but a sparring :catfight: thread, I appreciate the nomination, and see it as an invitation.
- I don't wish to be a member of a hate club, if that is what this is... I do try to focus on the positive. Locke manages to upset me, frustrate me, or I roll my eyes at him. I certainly don't have a high opinion of him now, but that is not hate. Despite his many failings, I also feel sympathy for him, even if I think he's being a boob. And though I won't deny discussing him in a to you negative light when the subject comes up, I rarely post to just vent about him.
- However, I would certainly appreciate a fixed Locke discussion thread, kinda like we had the Skate versus Jate thread in shippers. If this is such a thread, then I'm in. But only if Locke Lovers :bump: join in too
:D

Nice try, Sarge, but I think the Locke-bashing will continue to permeate the entire forum, just like the Jack-bashing is not contained to the SMACKJACK thread. I was just noticing this evening that these two characters seem to generate a LOT of strong feelings, both for and against. It seems like moreso than any other characters. I guess TPTB have actually done a pretty good job of setting up a dichotomy of two characters that will inspire strong loyalty or animosity, depending on who you are.
Locke bashing is what brought me out of lurking years ago so it's been a part of this forum as long as I can remember. Healthy debate about the characters, their interactions and motivations, and story arcs helps everyone, I think, better understand the show as a whole. I don't mind everyone saying disparaging things about him because it forces me to go back to older episodes and discussions to find things as counterpoints.
I agree SBA, I think they've done a good job of keeping the grey area as small as possible in regards to these two characters at least. For the majority of fans, you either like them or you don't. :)
At the end of the day I'm not trying to change anyone's mind about the character because I'm certainly not going to change mine, but I will defend him when I think it's necessary.

Actually I think Jack is a bit "blah" these days. I preferred him when he was being a nuisance. :D
sweetsunray - Locke and Jack are by far the best protagonists on "Lost" at the moment and you know I'm not exactly a Jack-lover so I guess that makes me a Locke lover, in which case I will happily join in !
Locke has a sense of humor - Jack doesn't. Sawyer already proved that !
So it would be good to have a genuine Debate Thread. Sometimes even Locke lovers have to admit that some of his actions are questionable !

Like falling for Ben time after time. Locke is awesomeness but this trait gets well on my nerves

Bah, Desmond is the best protagonist! :bump: That's the guy I'd follow everywhere. He's sexy, unattainable, no pretenses, and actually knows something about the future.

Plus the sexy Scottish accent ! And seeing the future is a definite plus ! :nanabobo: But Locke also foresees the future. Remember how he told Shannon that "we've all been given a second chance, a new life" or words to that affect. Well, poor old Shannon ended up six feet under ! Hang on, I'm supposed to be defending Locke ..... oops. :D
OK so he's not perfect ! But I would never give up on Locke. As I said a few other times, Locke may not always be successful but he is always prepared to discuss things and try to come to a logical conclusion. He has the passion to back up his beliefs and eventually he will prevail.

Locke doesn't have a blue shirt, with three buttons unbuttoned :p And if you have to be the sacrifice the island demands, at least Desmond's gonna tell you beforehand and leave the choice up to you :nanabobo:

Locke doesn't have the chest, either ! But he does have a filthy blue T-shirt !
Actually I think Boone WAS making his choice - but he didn't know it at the time - :)

No knowledge, not choosing to be the sacrifice. The unbuttoned buttons make the difference :D Now, for Locke's age his chest doesn't seem bad at all. Just not that much into father figures.
ITA about father-figures - where's Sawyer when you need him .................... OK, sighhhhhh, I know its not about him.
Seriously though I am working on a Defence for Locke, and we will prevail !

Uh... I think to have a "society" you technically need more than one member. ;)
Besides, you ain't got no thread, no central meeting place, no membership! This is what I give to you. And the name is negotiable. If you guys want a different name, just lmk and I'll change it!
With that said, I now nominate Homer for membership! You may of course decline the honor... ?
I don't diss him more than Homer, but I end up debating him with you more often, even when it's not originally about Locke. Heck, even when it's not even my intention to debate him. That's not entirely my fault since first of all I've observed you initiate less debate with Homer over it, or debate his posts less,
It is difficult to engage in a serious debate with Homer, because Homer tends to not argue seriously. A debate with Homer would just be us shouting insulting names back-and-forth. ;) "Boob!" "Trollop!" "Baldy!" "Slut!" etc. No offense meant, Homer, that's just your style.
As for this thread and membership:
- why the name B.R.E.A.K.S. ? What does it stand for?
I dunno! :) It's your club, you tell me!
In all seriousness, it's just what I pulled out of my ass on the spur of the moment. You guys can always change it to "Mock the Locke Society," or "B.O.O.B." or something else if you like.
- although it's nice of you to offer a place for Locke disgruntled people, it's also kinda odd that Locke Lovers can nominate you... Never heard of that in other character "hate" threads. Of course if this is not a nomination to a "hate" thread, but a sparring thread, I appreciate the nomination, and see it as an invitation.
This thread is a home for anyone who ascribes negative characteristics to John Locke, not necessarily a "hate" club. For example, I can ascribe negative characteristics all day long to Ben Linus and Mikhail Bakunin, but I still "like" the characters, as much as I think they are interesting to watch. Of course, actual haters are also welcome here too. Obviously haters will ascribe negative characteristics to Locke!
And if you guys welcome sparring in here, then I think that's grand. :)
- However, I would certainly appreciate a fixed Locke discussion thread, kinda like we had the Skate versus Jate thread in shippers. If this is such a thread, then I'm in. But only if Locke Lovers join in too
Think of this as the front-and-center place to bring up what you think of as Locke's failings, and know that you will be among friends here. :) And certainly, I'm up for a rumble as much as the next guy.
Nice try, Sarge, but I think the Locke-bashing will continue to permeate the entire forum, just like the Jack-bashing is not contained to the SMACKJACK thread.
I don't doubt it. It's just that I've noticed over the years that, when it comes to Locke, I tend to find myself arguing with basically the same group of people over and over again. I thought it might be neat to tie this group together, and give them a common identity.
Bah, Desmond is the best protagonist! That's the guy I'd follow everywhere. He's sexy, unattainable, no pretenses, and actually knows something about the future.
Bah, you just want to get him drunk, then take advantage of him! :)

As long as he takes advantage of me too, I don't see any problem :nanabobo:
